I used to dabble with e-cigs, in fact I swapped over completely; unfortunately it all went wrong and I was back on the real stuff. I've just ordered a load of new stuff from TW, but I'm wondering if anything much has changed in the last year or so. I've seen references to 4, 5 and even 6v e-cigs and am curious what the deal is with those units.

Are they just 3.7 units with alternative batteries; does it use standard atomisers (and kill them twice as quickly)? Throat hit is my primary focus, and I've gotten on best with the screwdriver - but more of a 'hit' would be nice.

Regarding 5v PV's they use 2 3.0 v batteries with a resister installed in the unit, so that you are actually only getting 5v instead of 6v. Many people have referred to 5v as the "sweet spot" in vaping in that vaping tastes best at this voltage.

The only thing that I have heard of in the 4v range is the "Joker" which is supposed to be able to vape at 4.5 volts which is probably also done with the use of a resister.

6v vaping is the use of 2 3.0 batteries and requires a special HV atomizer so it will not fry. There is also 7.2v vaping with the use of 2 3.7v batteries which also requires a special HV atomizer.

Thanks for your reply. I'll look into the 5v or 6v models and see if one in particular has been well received. Worst case scenario, I'll end up with a spare cig.

There are so many different models now!

If I may suggest, regarding the 5v models there are GLV"S, prodigy and a box mod called the Bartleby which is made by a guy here on the forum called cybervex. I own each of these models and enjoy them. I do admit that I like my GLV and Bartleby a bit more. You could also buy yourself a 5v pass through and see if you like the 5v experience.

As for 6v models there are many and a host of individuals who have their favorites. I am currently enjoying My GG telescopic and yes while it is a bit pricey their are a host of different batteries that you can use in it and you can go from 3.7v to 6 v quite easily. Just remember, that if you are going to go 6v get yourself a High voltage atomizer, and steer clear of the ones at Eastmall, they blow up like crazy. GG has them and so does inhaler.

I was just reading up on the Prodigy V2, thanks for giving me some other options and the tip regarding high-voltage atomisers. I have some final questions, so I apologise if I'm being a bother.

How much of a difference does it make (for you) going between 5v and 6v?

There seems to be a good choice of atomiser options now, mostly the 510, 801 and 901. 801 seems to be well received in 'hit', and 901 for flavour; I've only really used the 901 variety before, so am considering the 810. Have you felt there was much difference?

I'll take a perusal of the models you've mentioned and give one a go; thanks for your advice, it's much appreciated.

First of all it is no bother at all, I am just glad that I can be of some help to you so please feel free to ask whatever you like. Also the opinions that I give you are all my own feelings and other might feel differently. can tell you that I do have some experience with mods because I own over 50 of them.

To be honest, I have been reading that the prodigy V2 has been having alot of problems with the switch. Apparently there is supposted to be a fix for it but it has kind of put me off. I have a V1 and it had a switch problem too. They were great about sending me a new switch but, still, a lot of bad press about it.

I admit I am a bit partial to a 5v vape it seems a lot less harsh the a 6v depending on the unit that you use and with HV atomizers. I have only just begun experimenting with different HV attys for 6 and 7v vaping and I am currintly waiting for my GG 6v atty (I6) to arrive. I currently only have 7v (I7) GG attys. I am also currently waiting for the arrival of my 2 different kinds of HV attys from Inhaler.

The one unit that I love at 6v is my light vapor which unfortunately is no longer made. So far it is the only unit I own that give me an excellent 6v vape without the use of a HV atty. I also own a juice box that is fantastic at 6v but that has a special atty on it of the designers making.

I would be able to tell you more about how I feel about 6vs when I get my other attys in the mail which I hope will be this week.

I also think that there is a difference in what atomizers that are used. I started with 901 and then tried 801 and 510. Each pv, to me tastes better to me using a specigic atomizer. For instance, I like my Jantys, with the exception of the Ego (510) with 801's. I also have a VP-PT pass through that came threaded for an 801 and tried it with a 901 and 510 and found them too harsh for my liking.

Basically it is just a matter of personal taste, lately I have been getting my mods threaded for 510 and I have tons of adapters. I find 510 and 901 to be a bit more concentrated and 801 to be lighter. I would suggest getting a mod with asaptors for all so that you can see the difference for yourself.

You are the first one I have heard of that has 50 mod. Which one is your favorite and which one is your least favorite. Could you list these and rate them. I know this is a lot of trouble but there are so many out there I get totally confused.

The Adaptever, Black Beauty, Black Beauty Pass through, Bartleby, Bulli (extreme VR4, big VR4, VR4 pass through, big 510, Elite and Slim) Chuck, Little Chuck, Copper, Copper Rounded, mini copper, Detonator, Diamond Max, regular laser mod, DSE905, 4 original screw drivers by trog 2 901 and 2 510, screwdriver MKII, GG ( slim, goldfinger, nano, grant, transformer and Telescopic) GLV 5v, GLV 3.7v, Janty (EGO, Stick V2, V3, Kissbox extended, Dura C) Juice box, Kameleon, little gem, Magnum, Mako (prototype), Nautilus, Prodigy (V1, V1 pass through and Protege) Shotgun, shotgun USB, Silver Bullet, Black Silver Bullet, Double barrel silver bullet, Spade, Steam punk (aka spark plug aka SP2) , Precise (on order) Super T, Vapre 51, VP1, VP2 and VP-PT, 4 light vapors, Assorted box mods from ecigcity as well as assorted pass throughs from ecigcity, plus some other mods made by other members of this forum that are not so famous.

I am not going to rate each one because it would take me forever, but each one has it's own special thing about it that I like.

This site might help you

That's great, thank you for your advice. I've just thrown a cart and battery into my SD for the first time in a while, so that will do just fine until a new unit arrives for experimentation!

What's a pass-through, by the way?

A pass through is a unit that you can plug into your computer usb port and acts like a manuel battery. They come in a variety of atomizers and are usually decently priced (depending where you get them) and are a decent vape. I just received another pass through from vapor for life that is supposed to be exclusively for cartomizers. Using it right now with a sour green apple cobbler cartomizer and it tastes pretty darn good. Usually the cartomizers I have tried tasted on the crap side but this one is pretty good!

Ah I had one of those with my kissbox, but I never got on with the cig or cables. The GGTS looks really nice, and VERY configurable. That auto-feeder looks interesting too....

I assume cartomisers are those disposable atomiser and carts in one; I've never tried them. :)

Actually the kissbox pass through requires a battery and the others that I mentioned do not. The other pass throughs also have thicker usb wires and I think that this makes them better quality.

Yes cartomizers are a disposable atomizer and cart in one but you can use them over again. There are videos on the forum as to how to refill them.

First of all, all cartomizers are not alike, of the ones I have tried I have only found the new 510 soft cartomizer from inhale (cherry flavor) and the cartomizer from Vapor4life (sour green apple cobbler) these are the only ones I have tried that I like. I am using the apple on the mini usb kit from vapor4life and it is really nice.

Thanks for clearing that up, there is experimenting to do! :) I'm going to order a GG TS and see how we get on.
You will be very happy with it! I really love mine! It is a bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion. Don't for get to get a couple of HV attys to test out at 6 and 7v. Mine tasted kind of harsh, buth then again I was testing them on a 510 shotgun mod of mine. I have yet to put them on my GGTS.

So many mods and combinations and so little time!

Another test for you when you have the time is when you or if you get some cartomizers and use them up, (cartomizers will also fit on 901 tips) pull off the tops, there are 2, one white plastic and one clear plastic, and refill the cartomizer, just around the edges, till the filler is damp, the plastic tube in the center is your heating element, get yourself a 901 steel tip from super t, stick it onto the open end of the cartomizer and vape it like that.

Makes for a nice vape and those cartomizers last for a while. Don't over fill it otherwise it will leak out the bottom!
