I know this has been addressed before but can't find the thread??

I'm just looking to add a smidgen of flavoring for my sister's unflavored vape. Can she pick up a little McCormicks (?) or something from the food flavoring section at her grocery store?

TY,Bob

When I was looking at flavor manufacturers' sites, there were a few food flavors that were unsafe to vape. Those would not be at the grocery story, but they could be INGREDIENTS in what is in the grocery store.

These were not common, but they do exist.

I think it would be safer to buy flavored vape from a brick-and-mortar vape store and mix it in.

However, experienced DIYers might know more about which exact things are safe.

Yes, you can. You do actually need to check the ingredients though. As long as it doesn't have anything other than Artificial or Natural flavors, alcohol or PG (propylene glycol) it is generally safe to use. Extracts are a bit iffy. While I use Natural Orange Extract, the orange oil could be a problem in the lungs.

Most of the "store" flavors I have used have the exact same ingredients as those sold by TFA (The Flavor Apprentice), which I think I need to buy stock in.. Ugh! LOL

Avoid flavors that contain oils or dyes. When you read the ingredients, they should be along the lines of including only xxxxxxx extract/flavor [not oil] and PG or alcohol. If alcohol, you'll probably be mixing them at a much lower percentage though.

I've gotten a few flavorings from an Indian grocery store here which I was hesitant about, but I ended up making the best rose & mint eliquid I've ever tried. So good that it matches up to rose & mint shisha.

Thanks. We were thinking about just a little mint.

I haven't found too many grocery store mints that aren't oil based. Most are peppermint oil, spearmint oil, etc. They'll make you gag pretty much.

I mean, to be on the safe side, you're best off going to something like Good Prophets. I think they have 10ml bottles of flavoring for $3, TPA made. If you're looking for a mint, I suggest TPA Wintergreen. It's delicious :)

Mint oils are safer than most. First, it takes an extremely small amount to have a big flavor impact. Second, they are not like veggy or mineral oil. Third, the known cases of mineral or veggy oil causing problems with lungs is heavily concentrated in a small subset of the population known as Fire Eaters, so even the oils that are bad for you tend to take quite a bit of inhalation.

I use mint oils and have for years. I know other mixers that have used them a long time too.

Regardless, there will be plenty of posters shouting about the risk of all oils no-matter what type. Don't know why exactly, but they do. I figure the risk for lung problems is just slightly lower than the risk of getting cancer from eating grilled foods which is well within my risk acceptance parameters.

Now, you have another opinion. Use it for whatever you like.
