vaping is basically a "replacement habit" beak-d. Many if not most former smokers who switch to vaping get addicted to the mehanics of the vaping experience in addition to satisfying their nicotine habit. And since there are more flavors with e-juice, that factors in too. Many get an array of different PV set-ups because they enjoy the gadgetry of the whole thing. They want a different look, or some feature one PV provides that another does not. Many just like having back-ups, and back-ups for their back-ups. Some just like to collect things and since vaping often becomes very near and dear to many people due to their addiction...getting the latest and greatest PV appeals to their avarice and vanity. It's cool. It's like a hobby. Not everyone gets into it big time like that. Some stick to the original mission of saving money and quitting cigarettes. But many do get swept up in the whole culture ...and enjoy it!

That wasn't nice. I believe the gist of the question was this: Why do some people keep buying new PVs and is this a new hobby (?) instead of just switching to vaping.
Buying new PVs is probably something most of us do, because we're upgrading. I started with a crappy mall ecig, moved up to a KGO because it's much better, and will upgrade at least one more time, probably two.
It's definitely a hobby for some - my girlfriend didn't smoke, but she started vaping (low or no nicotine) when I did.
Welcome to the forum, beak-d! :)

That's an excellent Question/ Comment. I quit smoking only because of health concerns and Vaping, for me, is a smoking cessation program and not a hobby. Long ago I began doing without my PV in certain instances because I realized early on that Vaping could very easily become another "yoke around my neck". The only reason I'm now getting into VV is because I'm Vaping very low mg 2 mg and need the extra kick. Up until now I was happy and satiated enough to get by on 3.7 volt PVs.
P.S.My apologies in regards to the rudeness of some members here. Your English is quite fine.

I think this is the answer to the OPs question. If you are doing this to save money, you simply buy
two or three inexpensive batts to rotate, some cartomizers and only the joose you really need or
start DIYing. As a hobby, there is little to no money being saved.

I save $300/month by not buying real cigs, but I can easily spend that on toys and untried
jooses. And it doesn't bother me because at least the money is going to something safer than
an analog and I enjoy the dog squat out of the hobby and the peops in this forum. :smokie:

I'm a vaper because I wanted to find something to help me not die as well as try to save a few dollars if I could. I was hacking up a lung every morning. My son got really worried one of those mornings and asked if I was OK. It took me a while, but it's almost been two years since I stopped smoking.

Oh, and welcome to ECF! :thumb:

It seems to me that some people "chase" their vape. They will get a juice or a carto that hits so well and then are never satisfied by anything else they have. Make no mistake, nicotine is a DRUG!!!! its more addictive than heroine. But some people can get hooked onto vaping because they can vape constantly without ever really stopping, and it doesnt affect your health like cigarettes does.

You are replacing one addiction to one that is the same, but less harmful to your body. But just like any addiction you need to control it and not let it control you. Dont be a "chaser" and buy 1,000 differant gadgets for vaping, just buy a few things that keep you of regular cigarettes and thank God that we have this option.

I think the idea of the first post/question is why would someone quit cigarettes and start
vaping if vaping ends up not saving you money. I don't think the question was about why
you started vaping, i.e. for healthy reasons, etc. The poster mentioned quitting to save
money.

I also think there are some rude posts here making fun of the member who made the first
post. Have a heart for crying out loud. That person was seeking information, not critique.

So i can smoke something in the library when im studying for finals, smells better than cigs, saves money, better for health, and GREAT FLAVORS. Just like a hooka, but i still smoke a couple cigs every day... i cant go a day without it. I love the tar that comes along with the cig.. a e cig just cant compare to it. But it does for sure help you quit.

Hey beak-d, welcome to ECF.

I vape mainly for my health. My lungs are much clearer than they were when I smoked. I do save money compared to smoking, but I do like buying new things now and then. I try to spread out my hardware purchases so I don't go over my monthly budget.

That defeats the purpose of getting off cigarettes, sure its a health concern yes. But more than that its the nicotine addiction that is the problem, just because you can do it more doesnt mean you should get yourself even more addicted to a toxic substance.

Not to be argumentative, but nicotine in and of itself is not really that "toxic". Addicting, yes. Toxic? Not so much. In fact, there have been some scientific studies indicating that nicotine, in certain amounts, can actually be beneficial for some medical conditions. What I've heard, and believe, is that nicotine by itself is no more harmful than caffeine. Of course...too much caffeine isn't good for a person, either. But you don't see the FDA trying to crack down on the consumption of that! What is toxic about cigarettes is the 3,000+ other chemicals in cigarettes...the tar, carbons, arsenic, and innumerable chemicals added to "enhance" the nicotine getting into the system. That stuff is the stuff that kills.

All that aside...I vape like a steam engine. Not especially proud of that, but I am seriously addicted to the hand to mouth thing...not so much the nicotine. I have worked down from 18mg. to 5mg. over the past year, and feel a sense that I'll be dropping even lower soon. But my hand to mouth habit, my pleasure in the vapor and flavor...that's ingrained pretty deep. I doubt I'll give it up...although I very likely will end up at 0 nicotine within a month or three. My feeling is that if I'm going to have an oral fixation...better to vape than eat myself into obesity! The likelihood of my developing serious health problems from becoming overweight are far and away greater than whatever slight risks there might be vaping. JMHO.

I started vaping cause of health reasons. I've tried all the patches, gum, pills, and everything else under the sun. Vaping gives my brain the idea that I'm smoking an analog. To quote my lung doctor. " You can keep smoking and die or at the least you'll be carring a 02 bottles around with you". I haven't been vaping even a month but last checkup was fanstic. I upgrade and buy new "toys" because it has become a hobby for me. I want the perfect vape with the perfect flavor. Yes I've spent way to much money as a noob. But I work and pay for it. It's just one of my things. When I start something I tend to go all out.

Very well said about the hand to mouth idea. I must agree with that one also.

Addiction is as old as human. Nicotine has advantages in relieving stress and mental anxiety. Actually there are FDA approved drugs that use Nicotine as base for nerve and mental illnesses. I switched to vaping about a year ago and couldn't be happier with it over smoking. I found the hawk cig on the internet as the only ones who offered almost the same replacement to cigarette smoking.
