Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the eVic have integrated mp3/wma decoding? As well as an onboard EQ?

Technically, yes you are correct. The Evic seems to be built around an IC that was designed for audio applications. Bitterskittles commented on this a few pages ago, though it is very interesting to see the datasheet for myself. Now as to whether or not it could be modified to vape and play music is a different matter. Though based on the datasheet it looks like the voltage is hardware limited to 5V max. It is definitely curious that they would choose this chipset for a PV.

Does joye have anything that goes beyond 5v? They could just be making it for their existing market, instead of the larger 'mod' market. (And I doubt the speaker pins are exposed anywhere useful, so playing music is unlikely. Ditto for storage to put the music on - I haven't checked the datasheet, but it probably has onboard flash and headers for external, and I wouldn't think they wired up the external.. It was just a convenient SoC.)

You can get an evic control head in a co-op for around 30ish dollars, what does that tell me? It tells me these things cost around 5-10 dollars to make. Which falls in line with all the broken evics I read about daily, I just hate that no one else has come up with a programmable mod yet. It wouldn't even take much effort for another company to do this x1000 times better than Joyetech and their cheap component hardware.

Always good to read post from someone that knows everything about everything.
Head may only cost $5 or Maybe $25 to produce, in a country with a very different economy.
Retail pricing is all about market demand.
EVic build is no better or worse than most laptops/Tablets/cell phones or other technology based equipment.

I'd just about bet eVic sales have already topped 60,000 so you may be talking 1% defect and another 2-3% user abuse failure.

Everything man made has a defect rate.
Everything man made can be Man broken.

I do repairs for a vendor, the defect rate is certainly higher than 1% and I'd love to know how you came up with that figure.

I wouldn't compare the build quality to laptops/Tablets/cell phones or other technology based equipment - I know you won't have anything bad said about the Evic but the build quality is definitely below average, structurally and electronically.

I used to rebuild laptops and cell phones and have been in electronics for over 30 years so we will just agree to disagree.

I do see issues with the eVic as I have with hundreds of products over the years. I also see updates/upgrades that tell me The eVic is being improved. First product releases often have some unforeseen issues. It is how those issues are addressed that makes or breaks a product. Joyetech has taken a very active roll in assisting end users where unit failure is a problem. As to Breakage, I would not expect any manufacturer to warranty.
As to %, think about it. even 1% DOA/electronic issues would be 600 units even if we play Standards and go 4% that is 2400 out of every 60,000. I think it would be difficult to find 600 individual post as to Electronic issues, not related to drop damage, much less tracking down 2400.
Meanwhile take a look on Ebay at any time for the Hundreds of any particular model laptop or cell phone(defective) for parts.

Anyway, I've wasted enough of my time and yours.

Dirk I was wondering what you think of the eVic with the screws in the drip well. Is that a repair job or an update head for the eVic?

It's an updated head to address the problem the evic has when dropped. When dropped the head pops off and tears out the lead connectors. I know, I've resoldered two evics now. The two new screws are the latest version and you are lucky to get it.
