Hi everyone, new member here :)

I bought my first ecig 5 years ago at a Gorillaz concert, blew my mind I could smoke indoors with an ELECTRIC CIGARETTE?!

I've been using a pen-style one for a few years, currently on kanger geni-tank mini with a standard battery

I tried a new flavour on a shop owners set-up and was blown away, the amount of smoke and flavour was just beyond anything I had experienced before, however there is SOOOOOOO much choice that I'm a bit lost in it all....

Hoping you more experienced folk could help?

I was looking at getting a Smok Prospect or Guardian pipe, but I'm not quite sure if they will run a sub-ohm tank or not?

Otherwise, I'm going to get a istick 30w, but what is a decent (and cheap) sub-ohm tank to go with it? I've read all the information about it "not being for beginners", but I'm pretty sure I can learn what needs to be learned and be careful enough not to blow myself up!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Glastonbury and welcome to the forum. I run the Kanger Subtank Mini on my iStick 50W and love them both. If you find that coil building is not for you then you can still buy the OCC factory coils in .5 and 1.2 ohm. I've been so happy with the 1.2 ohm I doubt I'll move into the sub ohm area for a good while. I am getting amazing flavor (I use 65pg/35vg). I am positive you'll enjoy the subtank. If you do go this route, look for youtube videos on the subtank. When I get to the point of building my own coils I am trying the "vertical coil build" in the subtank deck. Good luck in your vape journey.

Since you have been vaping some kind of device for years, you are not a beginner. It's time to move up. You already understand how an atomizer works and what kind of taste you like. You are interested enough not to ignore battery safety precautions and are serious about your vape. Serious enough to post on a forum and read information about mods and atomizers to make sure you are doing it right.

Its time for an RDA. And a mech mod.

The safest easiest and cheapest choice would be an Istick 50 and a sub-ohm tank. The more expensive option with a lot more study and practice would be a mech mod and an RDA.
The ST Mini is great in that it allows you to get straight on the sub-ohm horse with the OCC coils, then into rebuilding once you are ready.

If the Subtank is a bit on the pricey side for you, a low cost alternative is the iSub G by Innokin, Even cheaper is the iSub. The "G" indicates that the tank is made of glass rather than plastic. Don't know what the pricing is in the UK, but the iSub G sells for around $20 here in the US and the iSub goes for around $17. It's a good alternative to the Subtank considering that it sells for roughly half of what the Subtank sells for. And the replacement coils are pretty inexpensive as well, selling for around one half to 2/3rd's the price of the Subtank OCC coils.

what is a dripper? what makes it better? :)

A dripper is an atomizer type that does not have a tank, just a chamber with a coil and cotton and a little juice well. In my experience and understanding, this results in several differences to the tanks. The obvious one is, you have to drip a few drops on it after taking some puffs. After how many, that will depend on your wattage and puff types. On my veritas i vape until i feel the flavor diminshed a bit and then drip, which really isn't as often as you would think. The second thing is, since the cotton in a dripper is always completely soaked, i get more flavor and more vapor. They are also easy to rebuild (unless you have an RTA, which makes the tank easily rebuildable as well). They will also never flood (unless you actually drip so much liquid it gets to your air hole :D ), but they can leak (depending on the chamber type, and you guessed it, how much liquid you put in it ).
I've had a joyetech ecom tank and kanger mow. Both worked well, the mow really well. But once i switched to drippers, there's no going back for me :D
As for the mod, i can't really give a personal recommendation. I've tried some egos, joyetech ecom, vision spinner 2, vamo 3 and vamo 5, now i got a sigelei 30 in the mail. They all did what they were made to do, the spinner is great but i don't think it will do for sub ohm. The vamo will be better, it's awesome for my tootle MTL puffing, but also don't think 15w will be enough for sub ohm lung hits.
