I never had a problem until I began shopping online for ecigs (been using a debit card since they came out). I did the smaller account thing and transfer funds now. The thieves didn't get anything since my credit union caught it very fast (minutes after the purchase I had a call). I lost nothing but the hassle of driving to the CU for a new card. I gained the knowledge of how not to get ripped off online. It does seem online ecig vendors seem to be an issue but there is a cure.

I once had a debit card get compromised and the thieves charged 7.00 repetitively about every half hour for a few days. Long story short, it comes down to your bank and how secure your computer is. My computer was used by the whole fam, so I suspect it was a phishing scam that my wife may have fallen victim to. Suffice to say I bank elsewhere these days and unfortunately I never did recover my money. Cost me about 800$ but it hasn't happened since. If a site doesn't show up secure (by Chrome) or Norton verified in IE I just don't buy there. I almost always buy from Simply Vapes because they are local, but I have never had a problem with their site. Only other place I have ordered from is Madvapes and had no problems there either.

I only use prepaid cards now....to much of this going down..

+1 on the prepaid card idea. Some credit cards have services where they give you a one time use number for online purchases. If this number is compromised, it won't matter because its not your permanent one. American Express used to have this feature a while ago, I am sure some companies still use it.

Two weeks ago $156. It was Blucigs that I bought from and it was actually 2 seconds later they were making purchases from a weight loss online place ( which is funny I weigh 99# ). I have had my card info stolen every May for the last 3 years all vape related and different vendors. The card I use is a prepaid from state of Mn they put about 400$ a month on it for my child support. So I think I am going to purchase another card and do some transferring of funds from now on. I would rather have a card with 10$ stolen than 400$. So here I sit waiting for my cash to come back at least I hope. My connection was secure to Blu. I am almost positive it was on their cc server that received my payment.

My credit card number was hacked and on 6/12/13 and someone tried to charge $519 to sears.com. Luckily I have a $500 limit on that card so they never got their goods. I only use this card for online transactions, most that are for vaping gear. Guess I'm going to have to use the prepaid route in the future. :(

My first e-cig purchase coincided with my first identity theft! This was last month; I ordered my first starter kit from a place in Washington state and the next day I received a call from the bank's fraud dept telling me they had some strange charges. I figured it was just that I had used it online and they were making sure, but NOPE...someone had used my card number to try and buy some $250 boots from a company in Texas (after doing the initial 58cent feeler-charge at another TX company). This WAS a debit card but I had no trouble getting my money returned. Just a hassle waiting for my new card. It was pretty strange that it happened directly after my online e-cig purchase, but I do understand it was just as possible that it was stolen a completely different way, but I have only used that card online with one other company (a monthly recurring charge, for a couple years now) and never had a problem.

Don't forget to avoid shady transactions. You know, like handing your card to a below-minimum-wage employee at a restaurant so they can wander off out of your view for several minutes with it.

It amazes me how many people are scared to buy anything through a heavily encrypted internet connection, but will hand over the card to any teenager with an apron.

I use my Regions debit card online all the time. Someone made fraudulent charges on my account on two occasions about a year ago. Both were out of the country. Both were from Brazil. The charges were for amounts very close to recent transactions I had made so I almost didn't notice - Keep an eye on that stuff. My bank cleared the charges no questions asked and sent me new cards on both occasions. I don't usually stand up for this company, but they have done right by me in these situations. That's just my experience.
