brief history - was smoking about 10 cigerattes a days for the last year. i was then introduced to the e-cig round jan this year.
ive been using the x-power 900c works great but about 3weeks ago begun to notice my hairline was receeding at a very very fast rate.
Now i have to say, am completely addicted to the e-cig- i get up around 7am, smoke about 2-3 puffs every 30-40minutes. til 11:30pm.
Has anyone else noticed this. i can only find one other person asking about this on google search.
thanx

You aren't vaping very much at all. How much nicotine? Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor which seems so be able to decrease blood flow to my fingertips when I overdo vaping. It's also a skin irritant. And vaping can be a bit dehydrating so you should drink fluids.

After you get 5 total non-spammy posts or replies in any New Members thread and wait about an hour, you could also ask in the Health section of ECF.

Nicotine has been associated with hair loss, but it is not a very common side effect. Like dormouse said, it is proposed that the hair loss is due to the decreased blood flow to the hair follicles; a result of the vasoconstrictive effects of nicotine.

Are you noticing just a receding hairline or is there a general thinning of your hair? The distribution of hair loss is the first thing we look for in assessing the balding process. General thinning (usually starting at the vertex) with or without a receding hairline is usually associated with male pattern baldness. Thinning in a spotty distribution is typically alopecia areata, which can be stress induced but is more commonly viewed as an autoimmune process. Thin broken hairs may be a nutritional deficiency (usually B vitamins) or a condition known as trichotillomania (I've never seen this except in books). Female pattern baldness is more common in the postmenopausal age group and, like male pattern baldness, is a result of increased androgen concentrations (for women this is due to decreased estrogen production).

Interesting... how old are you? Maybe this is just natural hair loss. I seem to lose more hair at the start of winter. I prob wouldn't notice the difference though. I've been a pack a day smoker for 15 years and a receding hairline for most of that time. I would think switching to vape would actually benefit your hairline, unless like dormouse said and you're over doing it.

Vaping is new though, so health concerns are mostly unstudied. I stick to mostly VG juices just because I've heard bad things about reactions to PG. Maybe it's the PG that's thinning your hair? Hard to say really....

This may seem off topic... But when I started grad school I started getting gray in my hair, sprouting in the front like mad! While I would like to blame Auburn U for it, I think it was just me :( Sorry to say it, but "your time" and your vaping probably just coincided and maybe you are just looking more closely and more often than before. :)

Add: pAth77- trichotillomania is a psychiatric disorder in which a person is pulling out his or her hair (from the head or other body area such as eyelashes or eyebrows) and is often related to severe anxiety.

Sometimes a combination of quiting smoking and coffee at the same time will have that effect. Hope this helps...

I'm sorry, but I fail to see the correlation with either of these. If mt123 had a reaction to PG, he/she would know right away. It would affect his/her respiratory system and not his/her hair. Here is the abstract from a dermatology journal documenting the correlation between smoking and hair loss. Granted, the study talks more about smoking cigarettes as a whole, but there are some newer studies that have demonstrated a link between nicotine and hair loss.

What I mean was I've never had a patient with trichotillomania. The only time I've seen it was through pictures in my dermatology books.

I'm still more inclined to think that mt123's receding hairline is more of a "run of the mill" type of case rather than an effect of nicotine....but you never know.

If it was nicotine that was causing it then it wouldn't make sense for it to be caused by e-cig use since we find that, for the most part, we are getting less nicotine when we vape than when we smoked.

The only way nicotine could be seen as the culprit in this is if the OP was not a smoker before taking up with e-cigs.

IMO
