So my local shop is getting these in in a couple of days. I'm curious how people are liking theirs so far. This will be my first mechanical so any tips or tricks with these would be great. Thanks!

I'm loving mine! The only issues I ran into were the spring for the floating pin on the 510 connector needed to be stretched out a little and I removed the plastic sleeve that the battery sits in, just cause it's a really tight fit and makes it difficult to remove the battery.. I know some got hammers that were just totally scratched up, mine has a few but I could live with it, after all you do get what you pay for lol

i have 3 of the hcigar clones sitting here ive been experimenting on/with.

on the firing button spring.
go to your nearest napa auto parts store and ask to see their spring board ( the boards the same in all the napas ive been in, ut yours may either not have one or be different) and buy a #3, #5 and #9 spring. they are virtually identical in spring coil diameter and size in circumfrence as the original spring in the hcigar switch, but are different stiffness and spring tension ( both to the original and each other) and are MUCH higher quality than the original china spring.

buy all three . when you get home, pull out your dremel ( if you have one) and cut 3 coils off of each springs end and try them.pick the one that most closely matches the tension on your firing button youd like. i used 3 coils off of the number 3 spring. its best to buy all 3 springs though as my idea and your idea of spring tension on the switch may differ. for me, 3 coils off of the #3 spring is perfect. it makes it about a "medium" on the button, and you can sit the mod on the button side and it will not fire even with the lock off, but the buttons still soft enough you dont have to mash the chit out of it to get it to fire.

im also going to be looking into putting a magnetic switch together for one of them. will post pix/results when done.

on the "short switch throw" issue.
what i did is i took the center screw/pin out and with a dremel, i sat the screw head down on an emery wheel flat and ground it down some, cut a new flat head screwdriver slot on the top and then polished it with a rubber dremel polishing bit.dont worry about the absolutely gorgeous "silver plating" on the screw.while silver is a super electricy contuctor, it wont make noticable difference at all in the way the mod operates. that gives quite a bit more throw on the switch if you need it, but i think youll find once you replace the spring in the switch, you wont need to do this.

Here's my review of the Tobeco variant from C2C

Just watched the review. Man, you got the worst clone from that batch! My tobeco clone fires just like the nemesis and had no scuffs or things like that. If only the chinese charged 5 more dollars and did proper QC :p

What ohms are you guys running for your 18350?

for an AW IMR 18350, you dont want to go any lower than 0.8Ω, preferrably 0.9Ω. the battery maxes out at 6A, so even on a full charge you *could* do 0.7Ω but i dont like playing with danger. id keep it at 5A and below. eFest 18350 IMR is rated at 6.4A but eFest likely inflates their mAh, C-rating, or both so i wouldnt push the limits on that one either.

also, note that eFest batts (especially the flat tops) are super tight in the hammer clone (width wise). unless you have them already, i would go out of my way to purchase eFests specifically for the hammer. but if you do have em, they do allow for the switch to be screwed in more than using a button-top would. just get your digit ready for a tough push to replace batts :/

So what is the consensus on the hcigar vs the tobeco? Is the hcigar worth the extra money? Does it seem to have the same flaws as the tobeco? Who has which and is it working well after doing whatever modifications you needed to?

i do not believe the hcigar one is superior to the tobeco one. i only have my tobeco one to go off of, but i consider it superior based on the reviews ive been seeing on the hcigar one. all types of problems were cropping up with the hcigar one that i had seen. thats not to say some tobeco ones dont have their own flaws. TwistedChild's tobeco one was..ummm. not so good. mine is flawless OTOH. go figure.

i have done zero modifications to my clone. absolutely nothing. threading is very solid, fires like a charm, and has a 0.00v drop without load.

if you dont have both to compare side by side, how can you make an intelligent decision or statement as to the quality of one over the other? i have personally compared the tobeco clone and the hcigar clone side by side, in person, as well as compared the hcigar to the original authentic hammer mod. only differences we could find between the hcigar and the original is the original had a nice wooden box. other than that and the serial number, you could have put the hcigar clone in the wooden kato original box and wouldnt have been able to tell the difference, they are identical. the tobeco clone looked like a cast steel POS compared. only thing i could find wrong at all with the hcigar clone myself is the firing button spring was a little soft, so i replaced mine, and the switch throw on the original is a wee bit longer, but other than that, no differences. quality, ect was 1:1 to the original.

everyone should make their own judgements as to what they think by comparing them side by side instead of making armchair opinions and observations without the benefit of examining them in person just on 'what they read" online that someone else stated that likely made their statment and opinion on what someone else said they heard someone else comment on some forums online

on the issue also of the 18350 batteries, in the hcigar clone as the original, all 18350 batteries ive tried were easely inserted and when tipped, came out of their own accord with no issues, a couple of those being the efest 800mah. this mod, while it will use any 18350 battery was specifically designed to use the flat top battery . with the button tops the switch will not tighten down all the way (this has got to be a CLUE of some sort). they will use the button tops of course in a pinch, that is, if you dont mind your switch housing not screwing down completely.

Already got eFests, button-top, however. Thank you for the info.

from looking at fasttechs listing, it looks like the hammer they are selling now is the tobeco clone or something cheaper.

heck, you can even buy one from them now for $22.57 bucks thats chrome plated brass!...whoohoo!...uptown!

From what I read on FT, the difference between the two (chrome plated brass and Brass and SS) is that one comes with SS extension tubes. The comments seemed to indicate that the "Rainbow Heaven?" version was superior to the Tobecco version, but didn't have the rounded fire button like the Hcigar version.

Since I was ordering the Kayfun clone and a drip tip anyways, I added the CHammer to my order. I got the one with tubes so I could upgrade to a Kick later if I wanted. I guess you attach the small tube to the mod, insert kick, and then add the Atty attachment. See picture (not my picture).

Sorry if that has already been covered. :(

Edit: went back and read through the thread. I saw where people have been saying it can't be kicked. So here's the reference where someone says it can be:

I'm going to ask a dumb question, so here it goes. I've never used a mod. Always used the ego styles. I have a bunch of protank 2s that keep me happy. I love the look of the Hammer mod, but don't want to burn down the house or have it blow up in my face. Does this thing come with instructions??? Can a noob take it home (with charger and batteries) and get it to work with a protank in less than a few hours? Does it then work, the way the egos do? How long does a battery last? How long does a battery take to charge?

lol I'm so very sorry.

LOL...no such thing as a dumb question and dont be sorry. only dumn question is the one you DONT ASK.

take it home, put a battery in it, put your tank on and vape. no complicated setup, its a mechanical mod. you might want to check into the kick though so you can set your wattage/voltage where you like it. i also as the above poster mentioned thought you couldnt kick the hammer mod, but after some reading and research seems you can so im going to get a couple kicks and try it out.

battery can last from a couple hours to 2-3 days depending on how you vape. for me, a brand new fully charged efest 18350 flat top lasts about 5-6 hours, but yet i am vaping constantly. charge time depends on what your using as far as charger to charge your batteries. im using an intellicharger I4 and it takes about an hour.ive always got 4 fresh charged batteries in the charger all the time so its just a matter of swapping one out. 18350s arent all that expensive unless you buy them from a vape shop or online vendor, but you can pick a set of 2 up on amazon for under 8 bucks plus shipping. ebays about the same on their prices.
