I just turned my buddy on to vaping today. I gave him my old ego LCD but it is a bit touchy with screwing carts on too tight and not working. He's an older guy, so I want something solid and non complicated for him.

I considered getting him the ego VVs I started on, but he is a big gruff biker dude, and I don't think he'll enjoy walking around with a purple ring of light.

So does anyone have anything bad to say about the Riva as a no-nonsense ego for this guy? Or would you recommend something else? Does it have the same problems as the LCD? (screwing things too tight)

Edit: didn't mean that older guys necessarily need something uncomplicated. I should have said, "older guy that doesn't even own a computer or cellphone"

I've only heard good things too. I have the Ego LCD but haven't had that issue, hoping I don't ever *crossingfingers*

I had one that was just terrible right off the start and another that wasn't bad but sill sometimes wouldn't work. Seems hour or miss.

Thanks for your opinions, folks.

Any atomizer/battery combination that uses a battery with an atomizer thread on the end will suffer if you tighten the atomizer too tight. Screw it up to the point of contact and then give it a gentle 1/8 turn to tighten. Don't worry if there are threads showing and it's not screwed down completely. The only side effect of this is better airflow through the atty or carto because the exposed threads allow a little more air to complement the slots on the side of the battery. Repeated on and off will drive the center contact on the atty farther into the ring.

For Bikers ... explain that it isn't a spark plug. It's more like a carburetor adjustment screw .. go easy with it!

Riva is a good ecig. Basically it's a 3.7v battery and you will end up using cartos or carto/tanks and drip tips. Some will say that the Riva batteries don't last as long on a charge as the eGo, but that's mostly because the eGo is a 3.4v battery and the Riva is 3.7v. That little extra voltage ups the wattage on a given resistance and a little shorter battery life on a charge.

FATBOY from canvape
20 bucks
510 thread
Centerpost not sensitive to overtighening
Strong case with matt rubberized finish
Fits in palm of hand comfortably
1300MaH (I don't recharge it, I top it off)
Uses ego charger.
No cut off that I have noticed (but has battery protection for shorts and such)
Mines showing 4.15volts on my DMM right now
The name "Fatboy" is obviously biker friendly.

I cannot say enough good things about this battery, I love this thing.
Grimm green has a review of this under a different name than fatboy (I forget at the moment), he hated the atomizer that was included originally but loved the battery.

 Hey i AM a older guy, and just got a cell phone -- yes i just caught up with the rest of you in the new century (booo mts!), always owned a computer.....seriously, no joking though....i am all about being uncomplicated, makes things way easier when you don't have to do extra steps :p

Now as for the Riva as a battery i cannot tell you, but as a cart might i recommend either a 6ml smoktech dct, or the ego t (make sure you get the lr version they work way better)
