Tekkeon sells this unit as a power back-up.

Tekkeon TekCharge MP1800 External battery pack - Lithium ion 4000 mAh

It's been made into a mod that's sold commercially in a 5.2v (at Clouds of Vapor - $120 out of stock) and a VV model (Nhaler $160 - out of stock).

I like this because it can be charged from any USB.

Has anyone made or attempted this mod?

I want to give it a try and any input will much appreciated!

I found an answer on youtube while looking for a review.....

Has anyone made one? How about a VV version? I'm going to order a battery unit from Amazon and give it a try!

Good luck... It's a GREAT mod for sure !!!

Hey! Thanks for posting! I searched the forum before asking but didn't find those threads. I took a quick look... very impressive! I was thinking of a VV version and I like the juice bottle idea because I could put my pump bottle in it and it sounds like one battery is plenty of charge for a day or so. It can be recharged on the go so one should be fine.

I'll have to order a unit or two and get to work! If I can fit my pump bottle in it will be the perfect mod for me. VV with a meter would be nice but prolly isn't needed with a constant 5v+/- output. I like my pump version of the Puck and USB charge and battery life are the only things missing. Can't wait to experiment and see what fits!

Great work!! Thanks for the inspiration and thanks for sharing!!

edit: I just ordered three battery units. One for 5V, one for VV and one just in case.... Amazon had the cheapest price I could find.

Parky, how did you solve the problem of cracking the plastic plate for mounting the atty plug.
In the video, Jolly had a problem with that.

My last one I used a thick layer of 5 minute epoxy top and bottom and it is holding up well. If you do it right it looks just like a nice smooth polyurethane finish.

I finished my first Trekk mod tonight!!! I didn't expect it till Monday but it came today so I got right on it!

It went pretty smoothly. I'm glad I saw the tip about resetting it by plugging it in to the USB charge for a second. That saved me a lot of anxiety.

I was able to keep all the original features including the light and managed to squeeze a fire LED between the switch and the atty. There's not a lot of room to work under the batteries but I trimmed the panel back, raised the light LED and fit the atty in.

The bottom tab of the atty is soldered directly to the switch to provide stability so there's no stress on the flimsy top panel.

I'll use it like this for a while and will prolly take out a battery and add a pump bottle. Then I'll have my ideal mod!

I was going to go VV or 5V regulated but I'm happy vaping with LR attys at 3.7V and figured I'd keep the first one simple....

Success with my first Trekk mod!

Thanks!!

Right on Jim.... Looks GREAT !!! :)

Thanks Parky!! Great idea you came up with... thanks for sharing!

The USB is the key thing for me. I wanted something I could keep charged up with my cell charger or any computer. Being able to run things off the mod and have a flashlight are nice extras.

Next step is to add a pump juicer and see how it works with one battery.

Thanks again!

Update... I tried to take a battery out but didn't have any luck. I took out a battery, put in a jumper wire where the battery was to complete the circuit. I reset it with the USB charger but it wouldn't turn on. I put it back in and tried the other battery.... same thing. I put both in and it's fine.

It was a tight fit where the battery wires attached to the USB end of the board so I soldered a 1" piece of insulated wire to the board and used the free end to make soldering and unsoldering the battery wires less risky while experimenting... so I didn't overheat the board or solder something unintentionally.

Stormi got it going on one battery and has been helpful... and I have another PM in looking for ideas. Sounds like it worked with one battery but just wouldn't charge until a jumper was put where the battery came out. Mine won't work on one fully charged battery at all.

I took some pics while it was apart.

Here's the unit from the front. The 3mm LED fit in the little notch once it was drilled out. The switch wasn't my first choice but it fit and worked on the inside which was what mattered. It was shallow enough that I was able to angle the board and retain the LED flashlight. You can see where the atty is soldered to the switch to anchor it. It's the only thing holding the atty on so there's no stress on the thin top piece.

Here's the underside w/o tape or heat shrink tubing. You can see where the atty is soldered to the switch. The resistor is folded right between the switch and atty so the batteries fit back in. I'll prolly epoxy or hot glue around the switch and atty for support but it's still a work in progress....

Couple of updates/additions for the Trekk Mod:

Added a "juice catcher" that serves an extra purpose of providing add'l support for the top. Reinforced from both sides and the stress is spread out across a larger surface. I made sure the catcher is sealed to the sealed battery connector so juice doesn't migrate underneath.

3 buck mini 801 attys.....my latest favorite vaping accessory. Love the size and production. The only thing about an 801 is it's length. It's big enough to be a light saber in a Star Wars movie.

Looks nice! What did you use as the catcher? I like the way it gives a sharper look.

I'm still trying to figure out how to remove a battery so I can add a juicer. I might try and find some other housing that will accommodate both batteries and a pump bottle if I can't get it working.

Thanks again Parky!

to put the juice feed into the tekk, remove both 18650s and replace with cr123a.
the tekk has the protection build onto the board inside so you can order some cr's with tabs to make it easy.
drop the bottle in and you're set.

sorry didn't see that you guys posted my video here.

the problem with the tekk cracking has less to do with strength. i found this out after building a few and selling them. each one was designed a bit different and the metal didn't help at all. like i was talking about in the video.

the version 2 tekk that i sell is the product of a lot of hrs of testing and doesn't crack. i have had one crack that is a 2.0 version but it was cracked on the side not the middle. good ol usps was responsible for that one.

if you have seen my other videos, i'm making some nice head room on the "Skyewalker" mod
not sure if that will continue to be the name of it but for now it works.
also another project in the works that when completed should sell well and be pretty low cost compared to all the junk out there now.

Thanks for the tips and the Trekk vid DC! I'll have to give the cr123a's a try and check out your other vids too!
