Has anyone used the Vamped 40 amp batteries?

The only thing you have to worry about is the pitting that is "VERY" common with VTC5's.... I'll pass....

I have had two since they are released, I have had juice stay on both all night from leaky Kayfun builds, I live in a extremely humid climate, and finally I subohm down to 0.2 often enough.....no pitting.

I know a lot of people with VTC5 batteries and none have had any pitting, not one.

The only battery rated at a continuous 30A is the Sony VTC-4 and VTC-5. ALL the rest claiming 35A, 40A etc are 20A (or less) continuous discharge which have a peak momentary discharge of perhaps higher.

Now for the bad news

Sony officially announced that they will no longer make the VTC's or any high discharge battery at 18650 size

Y'know, I'd heard this, too. Recently, however, I'd heard that the Fukushima incident forced the closure of a plant and that that was the reason for the drought. Once a new facility comes online, the VTC's are back in production. The internet is a lovely, conflicted beast.

I truly hope you're right Papa. Hate to see the best battery on the market not being made anymore. I saw however on Facebook the email Sony wrote stating that they will no longer make any 18650's. Then again should we believe everything we see on the internet?
You can always purchase the xtar vtc4 and 5 rebrands. :)

The pitting is prolly fairly specific to the reo. The device was designed with button tops in mind and the extra travel of the firing pin when using flat tops exacerbates arc'ing.

You reference kayfun builds - I'm guessing you aren't using reos.

Correct, I don't use a REO but most of my vaping friends do. I'm going to check with them and see if they have had any issues.

Pitting is not REO specific. Take a look through the battery threads on ECF. Lots of mechanicals are pitting, but to be fair most of those guys are .3Ω and lower vapers...

To be clear I have seen pitted batteries that turned out to be fake VTC5s.

Yes you are correct, but this was a know item prior to all the clonig of the VTC5's

Just replying to throw this in the thread for reference:

Between flat tops and button top batteries, in my opinion, button tops are the way to go with the Reo. Better fit, shorter switch throw, no arcing.

Cheers

You might want to read through the battery threads as well. There has been arcing with button tops as well... I believe it was reported by Quigsworth, zmauls, and someone else. Can't remember who it was, but it was in a subΩ thread here in REOville...

I haven't experienced any at all since going 100% button top, but yeah, I shouldn't have hastily typed "no" and rather typed "less" arcing.

Cheers

I've been led to think that the Vamped batt is Efan/IMREN cells. 2000 mah 10c = 20 amps. This "40 amps" claim seems to be another "pulse rating"....

I honestly can't say what I think about this "pulse rating" or in the case of Efan branded, "burst rating" stuff. -- I guess since I don't require quite 10 amps for what I do, I wouldn't be too concerned... but gee whiz. Without some sort of quantification and standardization of this "pulse rating" business, I'm not going to accept as fact some claim about 40 amps being a good idea to draw from a single 18650 for any period of time.

As to the thought Sony is discontinuing or has discontinued the VTC. I find that very unlikely. It would be odd to announce a distribution partnership with Xtar and then within a month stop making the product intended for distribution. - There is some other evidence to suggest Sony has moved VTC production to Korea - and further evidence to suggest they are giving serious consideration to marketing to vapers going by some interviews on bangswitch.

I hope they do just that and use holograms or whatever. I'd like a Princess Leia hologram on mine please.

I have long used VTC4s and 5's (mostly 4's). The issue is not making a battery for vapers, because what we need is the same as everyone else - a high drain, safe chemistry battery that isn't a fake.

That's the tough part! But Sony already has a reputation for top quality batteries just from the comments in here and my own experience. I might add that a few others do too - the Panasonics and Samsungs are good batteries too - the issue is one of counterfeits, because that endangers people.
