Has anyone with food allergies had the same reactions with juices?

Hi All,

I've been cruising around looking at samplers and making a few choices here and there, then it hit me. I get this funny tight throat from eating walnuts, heiniken beer (yah, wot?), and anything "sweets" baked at the costco bakery.... Has anyone with similar allergies tried any juice that has a trigger food and not experienced anything bad? This one banana nut bread juice looked good, but I'm really hesitant to try anything that I'd normally not eat normally. I just don't want to neccessarily pass on some tasty juices, or be concerned about other flavors that may have some kind of nut oil in them.

I think that if you are allergic, it would probably be a good idea to stay away. Since I don't know if the juices are made with actual extracts of nuts or just a chemical, I wouldn't take a chance.

I don't eat sweets much, my niece has a cake shop (may I proudly say she has been on TLC's Fabulous cakes - twice, and won cupcake wars?) but I don't eat them very often even though they are awesome. Yet, here I am with my Gooey Caramel Cookie and loving it. Who knew?

I have never thought about the allergy thing so far, but yes, it does make sense to me. Allergic reactions can be caused by the smallest amounts of a certain substance and I guess that the juices are enough the do so. Would not try it in that case. Maybe it is possible to ask the doctor for an allergy test. I do not know but maybe the research departments have already produced assay kits for your specific case. A hypersensitivity against one of the substances is possible too, but your symptoms seem quite strong then.

For decades I ate all sorts of nutz- peanutz, walnutz, all kinds of nutz and in very large quantities. One day about 15 yrs ago I ate a breakfast bowl of unshelled peanuts- face and neck swelled, eyes went bloodshot, throat constricted. Turns out I'm allergic to nutz- the allergist told me it could've been the 1st time or the 1001st time that I would have a reaction. I now carry an EpiPen just in case. "Funny tight throat" and your body is telling you something IMO- see an allergist.

Thanks for the replies, I was just curious if people did have reactions to juices since all the older threads had nothing conclusive. Yikes that's a pretty extreme reaction, my reactions are basically a nuisance reaction, so I hear ya, but I'll pass on a doctor till I have a more accute reaction than what I have. (I'm sorta like Baron von Munchausen "noo doc...tors..." :p ) But yeah, I'll just have to avoid or be really careful trying any juice that's 'nutty'.

@pericat , costco artifical sweetners? I'd never considered it would be a sweetner, I just figured it was some sort of oil they used on everything... Just another reason for me to turn my nose up at faic sugar! :) And DIY juices I'm definately going to look into down the road. Maybe sooner than later.
