It's not just the mail that runs at a snails pace... Nothing in the Government is processed quickly, unless you owe them something..

At least force them back to rotating strikes until a decision is made... I think the customers deserve that much..

    People are starting to suffer..

I'm sorry, but in this battle; I side with the customers...

A lot of us bite the bullet each and every day, without any option to strike; for a lot less... And some of us solely rely on CP to make a living, just in savings alone. Some of us have been stuck in renewed contracts, without any benefits, vacation and sick time at all.

A company wants to have it's battles, fine, go ahead. That doesn't mean it's the publics right to have access to salary information and your internal drama. Solve it like every other Corporation does, un-farely, but in-house.

Oh and above all else, get back to work lol...

And the employees of those customers. Eight people I know just got lay off notices because of the slowdown caused by the strike. Even if PC workers go back to work next week these people will still be out of work for at least 2 weeks with absolutely no pay, no unemployment cheques. The strikers are getting at least $200.00 a week.

Personally it looks like I will lose $135.00 in saved interest because of the strike. I could have bought my dad alot of ecig supplies for $135.00.

Too many Canadians are affected by this strike. If negotiations fail after a certain length of time, they should automatically have to go to an arbitrator. Strikes should not be allowed for essential services.

That is their own money they saved from Union dues.

As a business owner crippled by the strike, I still DO NOT favor back to work legislation. Essential service? It seems not, I am still able to get the orders out although it costs a bit more. I don't think anyone has died over this one, and a bit of a hit in the pocket book isn’t going to kill me either.

The benefit to me of forcing them back to work, it will make me more money. To take away someone's right for my own profit and convenience sounds a bit too much like slavery for me.

    Agree'd

IMO; force the doors open, let them strike, let them deliver...

I also have a few orders laying in limbo. No updates at all since the lockout happened.

I sympathize with those not receiving pay, or businesses not getting invoices out. My wife is on leave from work to take care of our boy at sick kids. She gets EI, or got EI I should say. We're down about $500 so far. So much for "Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds".

Apparently the bill drafted by the Conservatives has lower wage increases over the next 3/4 years than what Canada Post was even offering. How does that make sense? The Conservatives are going to give the workers less than what CP was prepared to? What a crazy situation. So I guess collective bargaining doesn't mean anything to Harper and they are just going to push this bill which punishes workers for trying to bargain.

Harper government is trying to pursued the union to accept the deal from CP. More or less he is saying either accept the deal before you or you get jack.

All it is saying is ... next time keep us out of it and negotiate like grown ups. The biggest stink is the wage for new hires = that doesn't affect current employees = nobody's business = don't like the wage = work some place else. Wrt pension = same thing. Current employees are grand fathered in. So what is the Union's membership major malfunction here?

No one wins during a strike/lock out. Folks are stating the Union did not go on strike, we were locked out??? The 2 parties failed to reach an agreement and went on a rotating strike = loss of a day' s wages for employee = no cost to the union = and lost of revenue for CP = which we the citizens will have to make up. Still both parties did not reach an agreement = we are not doing this rotation BS, they locked the employees out = the corporations right! = now it cost the Union and its membership funds with strike pay, and of course the corporation.

Strong arm tactics? Yes! Next time be reasonable. This is the real world and folks need to wake up. You don't like working for Ford, go work for Toyota.

I agree, if there's surplus revenue and management isn't applying it to the Corporation's contractual obligations, where's it going?

I don't have a pension, but I have the choice to work for any employer that does, so whose fault is it that I have no pension? Mine. If I wanted one that badly I'd be able to go out and get one. These people saw that as part of the package that they wanted, and went to go work to get it.

There's too much comparing to people that have crummy jobs lately. Minimum wage is for teenagers. If you're 40+ and still making minimum wage, having money and the things it can buy weren't high on your list of priorities. We all should be aiming higher, not participating in the race to the bottom that seems to be going on these days.

CP workers are currently locked out by management. I'm not saying that management was wrong to do that, I'm just saying that the reason the mailman didn't come to your house today was ultimately due to a management decision.

They're reliant on junk mail revenue now. Generally, nobody voluntarily says "You know what, I make too much money, I'm going to make an effort to earn less of it", and corporations won't either. They'd find something else to spend it on, just like how taxes never go down :)
I have to lol, sorry. Think they'd be so reliant on ad mail revenue if the workers didn't get so much of the pie? This is a CROWN CORP we're talking about, we own it, and they are owning US. You can bend over and offer your .... if that pleases you, heck why don't we pay inmates minimum wage for doing time while we're at it. Maybe welfare should be tripled so they can have a better standard of living. Or maybe honest work for honest pay should be considered instead of this mob mentality, which is what a union boils down to - "there's so many of them, we need them, give them what they want!" - infantile.

Well said, sir. If I had to vote, I'd lock them out permanently and privatize the whole thing. Then they can make the same as UPS workers and .....

How is this costing you anything other than frustration? Taxpayers don't subsidize Canada Post's operating costs and wages, do they? Last I heard it was running in the black. The mild annoyance of not receiving mail and packages as cheaply as you used to is not IMO worth comparing to .... sodomy, which is hardly an adult way of making your point.

Ask a small business, or mail-based owner if this strike is not costing them.

Even the corporation I work for billed out $140k last month, that is not coming in the mail.

With opinion like above, I hope you guys are company executives, or large enough share holders that it is your primary income.

Downward wage pressure and governments forcing working back to work, is a scary environment for all workers. Bitter the postal workers possibly make more than you, want to see them get knocked down a notch? Ok, but remember once the ball start rolling on this you can be certain downward wage pressure without any right to barging or strike is going to affect your wage, whatever it is, wherever you work. 48,000 workers are forced to take a 2%, lower than inflation raise, care to guess what yours will be on even your lower wage?

“I won’t be getting a raise at all next year, I haven’t got one for the past 5 years!!” Well my friend, sound like you work for a crappy company, as considering inflation you are getting paid less and less for your work each year, I wonder are you doing less work with less skill each progressive year? Why didn’t you just follow the advice “If you don’t like Ford go work for Toyota” where you would’ve got a raise. Guess that advice wasn’t as easy as it sounds was it?

At one time it was a source of pride for a company that they paid their workers well, and the workers would make a whole career out of working for one company. Now it’s, let’s find the cheapest labor we can and make the most money for shareholders. I’m a bit shocked that the people who it hurts the most, the workers, support it the most. Its shooting yourself in the foot.

The job should go to the person who will do it the cheapest, is what we are hearing here. Well my friends, if you think the postal workers are overpaid compared to you, it is nothing comparing YOUR wage to someone who will do your job in China. Going that route, there will be no jobs here.

I am surprised that a government that claims to support the free market would force workers to work, and set their wage. The government tells you to work and how much for, sounds a bit too much like some other countries we criticize and suggest are not free.

I posted no opinion. I stated that businesses are indeed losing money during this strike.

How you can build up a bourgeoisie themed rant out of that?

Nobody is getting a wage reduction... They're just reducing the starting wage for new hires. I don't see a problem with that. People know how much they'll make when applying, so it's their perogative. Keep in mind there is NO shortage of people willing to work at CP for those wages. They have a huge backlog of applicants.

They get cost of living increases (hey guess what? I haven't got one in three years...) and they still get increments according to hours worked (ie. raises).

And Canada Post has no shareholders.

I'm all for the bargaining rights of employees, but I don't understand why people are taking sides. Where's the middle ground? Are you guys at the bargaining table? You don't understand the politics or the pressure each side is facing.

The one thing I don't like is the Conservatives forcing workers back to work with a WORSE package than what CP was offering. Feels very cheeky to me.

Why do you care about the strike then? If UPS is so great, and privatization is the answer, you already have it, use it.

Oh, but unless you want to send an overnight letter Toronto to Montreal and don't mind paying $90 they don't really want your business right? Sending a postcard to Grandma in Upper Rubber Boot isn't even an option, they just don't go there. They will however charge you 3 times Canada Post rate, then hand it off to Canada Post to deleiver for you.

This is what happens when company profit is held above all. You don't care about the workers, but how about when it affects you?
