I had a physical today (scheduled long before I started vaping) and when they asked me if I was a smoker, I said - Well, no, but.... I use an electronic cigarette and I still get nicotine so I'm not sure how you would note that. The nurse looked at me like I was nuts. So, I showed her my kr8 and told her what it was. She said that's pretty cool, how is it working for you? The doctor comes in, asks me the same questions, I gave him the same answer, he also looked at me like I was nuts. So again, I showed it to him. I was shocked, that with the ban and all that they had never heard of them. I was just curious if any of you had the same experience.

On the plus side, my blood pressure was down, and I lost 7 pounds - bonus

Hiya, Kricket - good to see you behind the curtain :D

I remember talking gear to a sleep-study specialist. She had heard about 'em, as one of the day doctors at the sleep center was using one - so no big shock there for her.

Other than that, I tend to stay away from physicians, so, no, haven't discussed PV's with many medical practicioners.

I had my physical first part of June and talked to my Doctor about it. She knew of the e-cig, but didn't know how they worked, so I took mine out and showed her the parts and showed her how it worked. She had me puff on it and she was just a sniffing the vapor. I had kahlua in it so it did smell pretty good! She said, well that's sure better than the real thing! She told me good luck and that was pretty much it.

I dont' really have a Dr, but my cousin's husband is one. We got together in a family thing a couple weeks ago, and I was talking to him about it. He thought it looked great, and wasn't at all surprised about the negative stuff, when I told him about that. He said he would look at some of the links I sent him, but no reply yet. I asked him if he would prescribe Medical MJ to patients, and he said he would, especially for cancer patients. He's in Washington State. He used to deliver babies, but he's now a GP.

I'm glad to hear your visit went well, kricket.

I went to a doctor to have some sun damage looked at yesterday.I haven't had a check up in years. The nurse took my vitals (blood pressure, took my pulse, listened to my breathing & heart), smiled and said to my 3 year old daughter, "Mommy's really healthy!" She commented a couple of times on how good my BP was. When asked, I said I didn't smoke and didn't mention anything else yet. (I'm a new patient and didn't feel comfortable bringing up vaping YET.) There was a flyer on the wall for a quit smoking seminar and I'm definitely going to print up a bunch of the CASAA Medical info-graphs and bring them in!

Interestingly, I was vaping up a storm just before I went in and my pulse, heart rate and blood pressure were apparently just fine!

One reason I was seeing this particular doctor, instead of the nurse practitioner my sister-in-law works for, is because my brother-in-law told me that the NP said nicotine causes cancer. We got in a huge argument over it (my BIL and I) and I decided I couldn't go see someone who was so uninformed, especially as someone as passionate about vaping as I am. My husband is afraid they'll be mad we didn't choose her (we just moved to town recently) but I just couldn't do it!

When someone in the medical community is so mis-informed, I certainly wouldn't trust my health to them...that NP needs a basic brush-up on the properties of nicotine, and probably other things, as well.

I think you did good, Kristin, in choosing medical staff you can TRUST...no matter what the BIL says.

Makes me wonder how old this 'professional' is? Bet the NP would put you on Pharma Nic in a second (even thou it causes cancer). The VA is trying to get me on cholesterol meds (I read the side effects) NO WAY IN HE-double LL Hockeysticks!!!:nah:

She's older than I - probably in her late 50's. I'm considering anonymously mailing her clinic a copy of the CASAA Medical info-graph!

I just got home from the Dr. I mentioned the ecig when they asked me If I still smoked and both the nurse and Dr. looked at me like I was crazy, and neither of them have ever heard of it. That really surprises the heck out of me, since smoking is such a huge topic in the medical field, and It seems so many have never even heard of them. For that and other reasons, I think I may be looking for a new doctor, I mean aren't they supposed to know more than me?

Houston - we have a problem. Maybe it's just as well / although I would think they should keep up with the FDA in Medical Matters, don't you think?

hmmmm.....that is strange, especially since at the annual meeting in Chicago in June, the AMA adopted a policy to encourage the FDA to regualate the evil e-cig.

Then too, maybe that office isn't a member of the AMA?

I generally avoid any doctor who's opinion is founded on AMA or FDA opinions. My decision there is almost entirely due to my politics and I won't go into those BUT...

Decisions that comes out of the AMA and the FDA, like EVERYTHING that happens when government get's involved, are political and not medical. A medical professional who lets the politics of those organizations (or any other one, but those are two big ones) factor in rather than their own critical thought is one who is playing with your health.

My doctor is also my friend. She's appauled that I smoke, out of concern for her friend and because she personally finds it disgusting. She's not only made me feel welcome to vape in her house, she encourages me to do so and has asked what I'm vaping. :)
