I think it's important to bear in mind that we, as ECF'ers, may not reflect the actual or potential e-cig-using population. I suspect a B&M seller is probably smarter to keep a fairly limited, somewhat vanilla, product line for the many smokers who are motivated enough to seek out e-cigs but not avid enough to spend a lot of time on an online forum or otherwise seeking out the perfect product. Looking at my own PV right now, I see a battery box and batteries bought from one vendor, an adapter from another, a tank from a third, a cartomizer from a fourth, a drip tip from a fifth, and DIY liquid made from the products of at least three more vendors. The many who are used to "Give me two packs or Marlboro Lights" may prefer the simplicity of a basic product lineup (and might well find the Provari too heavy). That lineup may work fine for them, even if it doesn't do much for me, you, or most who hang out at ECF.

Yes, anyone that sells their own branded product HAS to feel their product is superior and they should stand behind that. The difference IMO is how their customer service is if you do own one of their products and you have a problem with it.

The owner of the local vendor shop in my area is like that about his equipment. He believes in his product. He sells a re-branded ego style kit. However, he does also sell Provari and a mini Lavatube kit. They are always adding new items to their stock and their prices, while not as cheap as online, aren't too outrageous on equipment. The juice is a little high for my taste, but they have a lot flavors, they make it in house and it tastes really good. They also let you sample their flavors before buying.

Another big difference between them and another B&M I have visited is everyone there is a vaper and they know what they are talking about to a large degree. If there is something I mention that I have learned online about something, they listen and learn as well.

The other local vendor is not as knowledgeable but very friendly and customer oriented. He also is willing to listen when you tell him something about other products.

Sorry you had a bad experience with your local shop. It's nice to have somewhere to go in a pinch if something happens with your equipment and you can't wait to order it online.

Hello Jason
Bullette the Cowdog here.
Livin the life in Florida also. I get down to Miami on occasion & as there are no real vape shops here on the Treasure Coast (mall kiosk doesn't count) I'd surely like to visit your favorite vape shop. Are you able to name it in this post? I'd love to go there.
Thanks

I guess I'm pretty lucky that the local B&M here in Orlando has some pretty decent folks working at it. The owner is pretty knowledgeable on his stuff. Prices are fair. It's a B&M, I expect to pay a little more than online, but I don't have to wait, so I'm fine with that. Juices are good, and actually priced about the same as elsewhere online. I've gone in when it's busy and watched some of the other employees selling to new customers. No hype. Just proper knowledge about how to use the PV they are interested in. It's mostly Joye stuff, but I'm fine with that.

Sure- the shop in Miami is Vapor Shark. There is also one in Davie (Broward County) called The Vapin' Place.

You can look up vendors at: Vapor Search. Both of these vendors are listed there and many others as well.

One difference about Vapor Shark is they also have a small lounge area where you could go and hang out, chat and vape.

My local store has twice told me they invented the Stardust and all the others are copies off of theirs. I also wonder about their methods of sharing their drip atomizers. They cleaned their dripping atomizers by blowing into them and I'm sure it's one shared by many. Seems an easy way to spread tuberculosis or something else. I would think each atomizer would need to be soaked in alcohol and not blown dry. Maybe lots of ecig stores do it this way.

But I won't mention names or give them any trouble over it, the industry is gone after too much as it is.

Really why get upset about this? Every person in sales will tell you that their product is the best. Why does that bother you so much. Someone didn't pay homage to your Provari. So what?

I'm not upset they weren't drooling over my provari - I just get tired of them dissing it when I go in there when they have no knowledge of it. It just makes them look stupid. I own a computer store and if someone comes in with something I don't know anything about I'm not going to start dissing it...if I don't care for it I'm not going to talk smack to them.

Just common courtesy IMO.

I run into it with the shop just a few blocks away from me. I go in to buy liquids but nothing else. Her stuff is way overpriced compared to the other store about 20 miles away that is near my work and school, so when I need anything other than liquids I go to him. She flat out lied to my face the other day, so I make sure I go in when the owner isn't there. She sells mostly joyetech and totally wicked, but I think they use the batteries themselves then pass off used batteries as brand new, a couple of neighbors of mine just bought batteries and clearos and a charger, and the batteries for ego, the inner part that connects to the charger, it turns a tan color when used, all nice and shinny when unused, and theirs were that tan color. She is selling some ego twists she says are 1000 mah, but they are the same size as my 650 mah twist, at $35.

I'm about to stop going in for liquids too, they used a bottle for a guy to test out his clearo and taste the liquid, he didn't want the bottle, they tried to sell that bottle to the next unsuspecting customer which was me, I told them I had stopped vaping that flavor since it was what I normally get. The other shop has a wider selection of flavors, and proved to me that his liquids don't come from china as the shop a few blocks away told me they did. I understand wantng to make a profit and all but lying to the customers isn't the way to go about it.

Don't worry about it man. Rat has a personal vendetta against anyone who talks good about Provari's.

So I have to vent for a second.

I have to say I am very fortunate to have an actual store about 30 minutes from my house that carries really really good liquid - It's all VG based and they usually carry 30 or so different flavors.

I originally bought a pen style 510 kit from them and was fairly happy with it - however I ended up getting a Provari as I really liked vaping and wanted to invest in something better than the pen style ones.

When my Provari was on its way I went by to pick up some liquid and mentioned I had ordered one. He started dissing it bringing up the story about the guy in FL who had a mod explode. He also said he had at least 3 people in the past 2 weeks trade their Provari in on his product (generic ego style I think, not pen style) because they weren't happy with it (which I don't believe, if they had traded them in wouldn't he have them out for sale?)

He should do some research before he goes dissing other peoples mods (not just Provari but other mods that have built in safety features) as it just makes him look uneducated trying to push his products.

So sure enough I went again yesterday to pick up some liquid and was looking at some attachments they had. I was seeing if the tanks they carried would fit mine and when I pulled it out the employee there said "Oh, you better be really careful with that thing, those are bad for exploding"

They obviously don't know anything about the Provari or they think I don't know about the safety features built in.

Sorry to vent, it's fair enough they want to sell their product but they could go about it in a different way. I would like to go in and talk to them about my mods, their mods, etc.

Anyone else run into this at their local stores?

You need a ROADTRIP! :) Vaporphoxxe in Hatboro, PA is the best!

When you run into a retail establishment that has the attitude, "Whatever we sell is better than whatever you already own", it's a signal to politely turn around and find somewhere else to do business. Competition is one thing, but no one profits from negative attitudes about the other guy. Tell me why yours is good and sell me on the features for the price, but don't inform me that I made a bad decision prior to coming into your shop. If you do, I will take that as I would if you called me a fool.

Ecigs are a budding business and product knowledge can be scarce, especially among new employees. A good businessman will put together a new hire training course, implement it, and require the employees to make passing grades before they come in contact with the public. You can train a person in a day or two, give them some links to competitive products so that they know something about the major competition, and make them look marginally competent rather quickly. A good list of things not to say or do isn't a bad idea, either.
