I just had a manual passthru (vk) totally fail.
I didn't think there was much to go wrong with them except maybe the switch.
Has anyone else had a passthru failure? Just curious.
I emailed V4L but haven't heard back yet.

I've had three fail. A 510 and two 4081's. Didn't last a few days either of them. Gave up on them.

Yep, had one that was about a week old die...bad switch.

Well I see PawPaw came up with the cause....

I took the initiative and sent mine back along with a bad battery they already replaced (so they can possibly get their money back) and asked for a credit on my next order. They are so freakin' busy it's hard for them to reply right away.

I had one die back in October. I tore it apart to try to find the cause.

It turns out that there is a FET in there that handles the voltage. The switch itself could never handle the current. On the manuals, I think the most common reason for failure is more likely to be the FET.

this is a lil off topic but i dont have the post count to make a new thread.

i tried to use the usb passthrough with my car usb adapter that i charge all my gadgets with, and i got very very little vapor and a little taste of bannana. maybe i have to hold the button down for a while before hand. and it does work when plugged into the puter. ill experiment on my way to class tonight and report back later.

Passthru works fine in my '03 Ford, which doesn't have a "cig lighter"... It does however have a "Power Outlet 12V-10A".

My friend isn't able to use the passthru in his car, and he has the "cig lighter". I think his car is a 1984 Toyota Supra...

Might be the differences in power supplied because of the technology differences?

might be the power adapter is not putting out the Ma needed. I've had that problem then I got an auto adapter rated at 5v 2000Ma and everything was fine.
Many of the adapters SAY it's output is 1000 but it's not.

I can't get my PT to work in my car either -- and it's a brand new car! No vapor and no taste. I can't get the V4L PT to work in my laptop (macbook pro), but it works great in a wallcharger.

For those who are having trouble with using a PT in your car, it's not because the car is older & not able to handle the draw. If that were the case, it would blow the fuse. The PT has a much lower draw than a standard car cigarette lighter.

Stop by your local Walgreens and pick up one of these:

E Tek Dual USB Car Charger | Walgreens

It will probably be a different brand (i-xt), but the package looks almost identical to the one pictured. It will be hanging on a hook with the automotive stuff.

It is rated @ 1000ma, and works great with the PT.

Look at post #13 above.

Thanks PawPaw, but I'm interested in one rated at 5v 2000Ma since my 1000Ma adapters (from 2 different manufacturers) only put out very light vapor on my VK PT. I have to draw really hard to barely get anything out of the manual or auto PTs (it's doable but not nearly as satisfying as vaping from my laptop's usb port).

But what I'm telling you is that one works great. I've recommended it many times in the past and everyone that has bought it has been happy with it.
