We started talking about sex with the youngest when she asked about it. This was around first grade (school can educate
) and poor RW was the one who handled it because when the question came up, I wasn't at home.
Of course, it was reversed when my son asked which was at an even earlier age because it was part of the exceptable conversation because we were already talking about it.
Of course we didn't get into FULL details until the kids got older.
And do you believe you pre or teen is having sex?
As parents, we, of course, believe in total abstinence, but were realists too.
I was pretty sure my daughter hadn't until she was out of high school. It turned out I was right too. Even if she had started earlier, she was on the pill because of other problems. I was lucky with her because we have always been able to discuss just about anything.
Of course, it was different with my son. He's always been a little tight lipped, but it was easy to tell with him because he embarrassed easily. It was his senior year in High School (would have preferred his last year in college) and he didn't hit a home run the first time around.
There is five years difference between daughter and son and so there was condoms in the house and they were there "just in case daughter needed them"---we preached TOTAL SAFE SEX---way too many hazards out there.
Then son and I went to spend some time with my sister and her hubby. A couple of weeks. The church they belonged to helped out kids who'd became teen parents. He got a lot of hands on during this time and I mean, with someone close, he got the sole responsibility of taking care of a few babies while the baby's parents ran errands or whatever.
He also got to see just how much life changed after baby for these kids.
I never heard or went after details, but after that, and I don't think it happened often, but if it did, I'm sure the condoms got used.
