We are new to this whole process, just got our first juice purchase in the mail today. Just to keep it all together, I've put it all in a latching plastic box... which is currently sitting on the kitchen table.

Now I have a 9yo son and a 16mo daughter... My daughter we still keep away from anything hazardous, of course. She's just a baby and puts things in her mouth. But my son, is obviously old enough to get into pretty much anything he wanted to. Now we have talked with him and explained that the nicotine in these liquids is poison and dangerous and he must not touch them ever, for any reason. But he sure was curious about the stuff...

So I think I will be hiding that box before I turn in tonight, and tomorrow I will be looking for a lock-box to keep them in. I just can't help but think that the FDA may have a point about the sweet-treat flavored e-juices just due to the fact that someone out there is going to make the mistake of trusting their kids to steer clear of the stuff and some kid is going to OD on nicotine satisfying their curiosity.

So just out of curiosity, those of you with kids, how do you store your stash to keep the kids out of it?

Also, do the juices keep better in the fridge?

I have no kids but do have a 2 yo grandson. I keep all of my juice on the top shelf of my master BR closet. It should be kept in a cool dark place anyway. Just use the same precautions you would with even cleaning chemicals and place it out of their reach. I think that a small child could drink lemon scented cleaning solution as easily as drinking their parents nicotine if it is not placed safely out of their reach.

Whew! It's cool that those have locks on them, I bet they work great... but kinda pricy, right? And I don't think it would fit in my fridge, lol!

True, but I'm thinking of a little older kids, like my son. I'm pretty sure that informing him of the dangers of the e-juice will be enough to forestall him from seeking the stuff out and giving it a try... but then again, my parents thought that educating me about handguns and their proper use was enough to forestall me too... :(

Depending on how many flavors you vape you might need a spreadsheet to keep track of what's what but if your son is like most 9 year olds you may get away with re-labeling your juices with names like asparagus, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach...

Seriously though, I would think educating him about the down-side of nicotine addiction and the effects it would have on a young body combined with a locked-box in the closet would do the trick.

That should be enough of a deterrent until he's at the age where he starts hanging around with kids that smoke cigarettes.

Treat it just like you do your cleaners and other poisonous things you have around the house!!! And yes, when my kids were about your son's age, they were kept in a safe place I knew they couldn't get into.

All everyone has to do is use common sense. It's when they don't, that something terrible is going to happen---just like it would be terrible if a kid drank Drano.

Treat it the same way you would poisons as JJ2 says - or alcohol which has no child safe caps and can be sweet or flavored like candy (the FDA point about sweet flavors falls down when one compares it alcohol don't you think?). My kids are older now and know not to touch stuff that doesn't belong to them, but if they were younger Id just keep it keep the nic stuff in the same place i keep the family gun - in a safe in my room.

My 2 kids have four legs and lack opposable thumbs. No worries for me.

Seriously, I see storing e-cig juice the same as storing alcohol, ammuniton or caustic household cleaners/chemicals if children are around. Of course you could always sell the kids to the circus, have more cash for e-cig stuff and not have to worry about storage. Win-win.

Love this post LMAO!!

After almost 2 years of having nic liquid around mine know what it is and to leave it alone. Teaching goes a lot farther then hiding stuff, after about the age of 5. Kids are nosy by nature they will find the keys to unlock they will use a chair to climb they will get into it even if it is double locked and you wear the key around your neck.
