Hey all. I got my first decent e-cig on Sat evening and didn't smoke a cigarette until Sunday even. Thats no time at all but I was hoping this would be the key to helping me quit. I only got 18mg nicotine so far... could that be the reason I still crave cigarettes? My wife thinks that because the juice is flavored strawberry its not going to satiate my cig craving. Should I look for a tobacco flaverd liquid with a higher nic mg? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I wanna be among the people on here that have transitioned from analogs to digi and don't look back. Thanks in advance for your response.

Flavor could be an issue, yes. Too subtle and you might not feel like you're replacing the habit, too strong and you may not vape enough to quench the urge.

The mg level you need varies a lot on the person. You could go to 24 and see how that goes.

I think one thing you really have to have a mind set on, is that you are still quitting, and for a lot of people e-cigs aren't going to make it as easy as snapping your fingers. Sure, for many it is, but probably not the majority.

The main thing is, if you do give in to temptation, don't give up. Stick with it. Search for a flavor you like better, or if your device isn't doing it for you, consider looking around at replacement atomizers, or cartomizers, that may suit you better. Over time you'll get a better idea about what works for you. MG levels, device style, flavors, and so on, are all part of the experimentation process. They can also be a great distraction. Sometimes when I really crave an analog, I find reading the forums, while vaping, works wonders. By the time I realize how much time has passed, I've usually completely forgotten about wanting a cigarette.

Best of luck,

What do you consider a "decent e-cig"? You probably will crave cigarettes for a bit. Just keep vaping when the urge gets strong. A good strong tobacco flavor of 24mg nic might help curb the cravings for starters. Just know there is no TRUE cigarette flavor in e-juice. Some have a cigarette occassionally when they first quit. Invaribly the cigarettes taste worse the more they vape until they discard them completely. There will be lots of mixed feelings over the next month or so. It's part of quitting the smoking habit and switching to vaping. Hopefully the good feelings like breathing better, returning taste buds and a better overall feeling of well being will outweigh the withdrawel sysmtoms.

I'm also curious as to what you consider a good PV. If your PV is too small and inconsistent, that could be part of the problem.

The most popular nic level from various polls is 24mg, so kicking it up some might help. There are many who vape 36mg nic level liquid. Many of us smoked at a much reduced amount for a while before quitting completely. It took me 45 days to quit completely but back when I started, most of the PV's avialable were crap.

Well up until Sat the only e-cig I had tried is something from Xhale 02. It looks exactly like a real cig in size. 10 puffs and it was done. I got a TW Tornado Tank and it vapes very well. It's strange now that I think about it. I didn't crave a cigarette until I went and bought this strawberry flavored liquid from a tobacco shop here in town. From the time I got it I was smoking a menthol flavored liquid TW sent me with the Tornado Tank kit. I think when I get home from work I'll put in a tank of the menthol again and see how I feel. Thanks for all the input guys. I think I will try to get a "tobacco" flavored liquid with a high nic content. Thanks again ....

There is a chance your wife might be right. In the beginning I discovered I could not vape foody/fruity juices without getting a strong analog craving as if I had just eaten. So I vaped all tobacco juices and found ones that had aromas and TH that really satisfied me. I occasionally mixed some of my BWB peach with a tobacco so I could enjoy it as a peach tobacco. Near the end of the second month I was mixing chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, oRyental 4(caramelly) (all from FreedomSmokeUSA) with different tobaccos like the strong nutty and pungent Desert Ship to change up the flavor. And THEN the mixer flavors became what I enjoyed.

Everyone is different. Some people will say vaping non-tobacco flavor is the only way to get away from cigs. But that was not true for me nor some other people I have run into on this board. Some other people besides me got analog cravings after vaping a food/fruit juice when they started vaping and had to vape tobaccos to start. So pay attention to that. If you are using cartomizers, fill one up with a tobacco juice you like and try that next time you get an urge. The cartomizer will keep the flavor totally separate from whatever else you are vaping.

And if you have a problem with mornings, I have a totally spare battery and leave my ecig set up overnight, with a cartomizer on it so no screwing with cranky carts etc. So it is right there for me to pick up first thing in the morning. No assembly required.

I only got 18mg nicotine so far... could that be the reason I still crave cigarettes?

I had to vape 24 and 36mg to finally get off cigarettes, but months and months later I still get a craving for one. I waiver between 12 and 24mg now, but I do keep some 36 around for just in case the cravings get bad. I don't believe the cravings will ever fully stop; but the longer it goes, the easier it is to not give in. It helped me to get as far away from tobacco flavors as I could because it only served to remind me they are a poor imitation and it kept tobacco in my mind set.

If you want something that really does taste like a cigarette... it REALLY does; get some Prime 15 samples by Halo. I can't figure out how they did it, but it's the close to a cigarette in taste and flavor. It even has that "ash" taste we get from smoking. Incredible...

I vaped a couple of times and traded it away because I knew someone else would enjoy it and I don't want to vape tobacco.

Hope that helps and best wishes on your efforts

I started with fruity flavor and it didn't work for me. So I picked up some Tabacco flavor and it seemed to hit the stop right on. I vape mar-boro/casablanca/555. I do have this juice from pinkspotvapor.com that is called honey flue cured and it will leave that stright cigarette Taste in your mouth. You'll find the right tools, hang in there!

I vape 24mg juice and started on that. Took me about 6 weeks to quit smoking analogs. Flavor didn't matter to me. There are many compounds in cigarette smoke that are addictive, nicotine is not the only one. Just take your time and don't give up.

I found that making rules I didn't like about smoking helped me stick to vaping more. As in - no smoking inside the house or car, only have a smoke when someone else does, etc. Making smoking harder to do than vaping helped me greatly. Keep your batteries charged. Big fail for me was dead batts, I went for an analog when all my batts were dead now I exist on 3 ego batts in rotation one in use, one back-up fully charged, one charging.

Edit: Smoking sux! My better half is incredibly happy that I vape rather than smoke so... If only to make the person you love happy. Focus on quitting, you'll feel better about yourself and so will she :)

You know, you could look at it from the other direction........

I've heard stories about vapers that didn't intend to quit smoking... just cut down. They smoked and vaped. They got over the learning curve. Found a PV combo that worked for them. After a while, they forgot to smoke.......then later, cigs tasted like crap.

I ditto the above comments about there being "other stuff" in tobacco. I did have some withdrawal from it. I could handle it with slightly higher nic levels. I've found moving to 5 volts helped me stay away from tobacco.

You have to "mess with it" a bit to get used to it and figure out what works for you.

lol.

I'm definitely into the different tobacco flavors. The first one I found that felt sorta like a cigarette was MFS's Mar-Bro. That, mixed in with some of their RY4 is what allowed me to go my first 24 hours w/o a cigarette in as long as I can remember. Ikenvape's RY4 is amazing, too. These flavors all seem to compliment coffee and bourbon which had always been very heavy smoking times for me. I just can't imagine sitting down with a nice bourbon and a watermelon flavored vape or something. Eww!

I fully echo the higher nic and tobacco flavors. I have lower more "fun" flavors for later in the day and evening. I ended up with a semi "nasty" generic tobacco 24mg and I actually find it works great as my morning vape. Not really like a cigarette but mentally it works really well. I'm new and only quit 10 days ago. Smoked and played for a day, then quit. But as someone else said earlier, I really, really want to quit. Morning is my rough spot apparently.

backwoodsbrew.net has wonderful tobaccos... Casablanca and Virginia are my favorite straight-tobacco vapes... but he also has fruit/tobacco mixes that are fantastic... Applewood, Cherry Tobacco, Maple Tobacco, Melon Tobacco... Coffee, sweets, just fruits, etc. etc... 24 mg (assuming you have decent equipment) will kill your cravings...

I'm only at day three, but the flavor angle is a good one. In my case, I just bought the premium tobacco flavor to get started. By dumb luck, I find it really tasty and the light aroma, almost like a mild pipe, is nice. The idea with this thing is to emulate smoking. It is a mind trick, in addition to a nic-fix.

If you read some of the threads, one key is to go ahead an vape your brains out at first. That's a common theme I see. I'm taking that approach and have found the transition shockingly easy so far.

Flavor may very well be the problem. When I started vaping, I wouldn't be satisfied unless I had a tabacco flavor and / or something pretty strong and "dry" like menthol, cloves or coffee. I didn't start vaping to quit, so I had analogues pretty regularly at first. Then I started smoking less and less and quitting wasn't a problem. Once, I was used to vaping, all the flavors I started with didn't seem so appealing anymore and I switched to more fruity flavors like strawberries.

I think one of the forum members had mentioned, that a smoker has a hard time tasting fruity flavors, and prefers strong, salty and spicy ones.

So your wife may be right...
