Im fairly new to vaping and Im sure Im doing something wrong lol. I tried a basic Smoketip for a week and knew an automatic battery and 16mg of nicotine were not cutting it. They worked fine and never bothered me, but I couldnt hardly even notice a hit at all.

Well I searched around and went with a Jazz pipe mod. I absolutely love this thing and cant say enough good about it! But I know something is awry with my vaping experience and it has to be coming from my technique. Sometimes I get a perfect drag off of it and love it, but then all of a sudden I get a very harsh one that agitates my throat and tongue. I pulled the tip off my pipe and saw liquid on the mouth end of my cart and in the tip of my pipe. Could that be what is causing the harsh, abrasive hits? If so, how is it Im getting liquid coming up the mouth piece? It must be something Im doing to cause these intermittent harsh drags, because half the time Im getting soothing, delicious drags. Any help for a newby would be greatly appreciated :).

Im using:
Jazz Pipe mod
Smoktech 1.7ohm single coil 510 carts (and tried one Smoktech dual coil 1.5ohm)
Eminent vapor honeysuckle 80pg/20vg blend, 18nicotine

I'm glad you found a mod that works for you. The harsh hit your talking about is most likely because the atomizer is dry and needs more liquid. If you mean cartomizers then it's probably burnt and needs to be tossed. You can read more on the reasons why you should do that:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...10-kr808-4081-etc-filler-type-cartos-619.html

How can it be burning if it has fluid coming out the mouth side of the cart? Is it even normal for fluid to be coming out that end?

UPDATE:It may be in fact burning after all. I didnt relate the raw feeling to what everyone calls a "burnt taste". I refilled my dual coil and got smooth hits off it, but the singles seem ruined :-(. I dissected one and did indeed find a small burnt hole in the filling. Man was this a costly weekend: several new carts inoperable right out of the box, 2 burnt, and fluid wasted in all the above lol.

How does one know when a cart needs refilled? I didnt want to just keep adding and have an overfill issue lol. I liked the idea of longer battery life with still a decent hit off the 1.7ohm single coils....but with me being a F.N.G., maybe i should stick with the duals until I have the fill time down pat lol. I would get clear ones, but Ive read reviews of meltdowns and breakage in the clear material. If one broke in my pipe, it would be a bear to fish out and just the fact the pipe encloses the cart invites a chance of melting the tube lol. Thanks for your reply

Sounds like you got lots to learn . Theres so much info on this forum you will be a pro in no time . How much juice are you putting in the carto . ALso which carto's are you using ? The std size hold about 25-35 drops and the xl size around 50-60 drops . Make your you let the juice soak in . Look into the condom method for filling condoms . Once the carto is running dry you will lose some flavor and start getting a off taste . The you drip 10-15 drops more and so on after it goes low again . Keeping it wet is key to not burning . Also what voltage are you vaping at . I have never heard of a jazz pipe . Fluid coming out of the mouth side is normal if your using it without a drip tip . How are you filling the cartos now ?

Btw carts are used with attys . It sounds like your using cartos = cartomizers . That may confuse some on what your actually using .

It's the way you sit your pipe down. Gravity really does work.
The juice is collecting at the top of the carto (it's not a cart) and away from the coil.
This will happen with any cartomizer if it's held upside down long enough. Just hold your pipe vertical with the pipe stem up for a minute and the problem will self correct.

Oh and riva, this is a Jazz pipe

Thanks for the replies :). Yep, I have alot to learn yet, but I'll get it figured out lol. Just a month in a 1911 forum and I built my first pistol from scratch with the info found there ;-).

@riva: Im using an 18350 battery (which is 3.7volts, 1200mah), and some smoktech 1.7ohm single coil cartos. I also tried a smoktech 1.5ohm dual-coil carto. They are both the same length (longer than standard at 48mm long). The singles are burnt during my learning curve lol, but the dual seems to have survived. I will likely just get some more duals until I have a hang of this. I started out filling them with 30 drops by opening the end and driping it directly in and letting it soak into the filler. Here's a pic of my Jazz pipe:

@tj: I was thinking gravity may have had a part in the leakage, but wanted to be sure there wasnt anything else I may have been doing to cause it or if that would cause the raw hits. (I now know that is what people are calling a burnt hit). Thanks for the input.

I would go with some boge LR cartos (best cartos on the market imo) The DC's arent great unless you have high voltage (4.7v+) . 1.7 ohm is pretty low for a 3.7 mod as well and that why you may be getting burning . The boge LR are 2.0ohm which should be perfect for you . Also try the condom method for filling . Look for a vid on youtube by Pbusardo for condom filling tutorial .
