I had a bud that went for heart surgery. Doc told him to stop smoking first. He didn't! He was on the table for a very long time as they had problems with bleeding. It made the heart surgery much more complicated, painful and risky.

I wouldn't chance it myself. The stakes are just too high imo. Cheers.

Be fair. Nobody around here is qualified to touch that. There must be scholarly papers written about what to avoid before surgery and why. My bosses bosses boss had me front him some vape gear and zero nic liquid so he would have something to puff on because the doc said he better not test positive for nic. You're talking internal organs and the heart no less. Who knows what the doc is thinking about. He'll probably never stand still long enough to tell you. The doc wants you stupid healthy before he does this thing. May be just play along and eat some oatmeal. A rigidly healthy life, diet and all, is boring as hell unless you're training for the Olympics, which you sort of are.

Nicotine is the problem with surgery, so no Nic :) If you vape zero Nic it may not be a problem, but I am not a Dr, am an x-Ray tech :) So just my opinion.
I agree with @bnrkwest. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning that it causes the tiny blood vessels to shrink in diameter and can cause a lack of oxygen to the tissues that they are meant to supply. The heart is full of capillaries, or tiny blood vessels. I'm not a doctor, either, I am a retired surgical physician's assistant (PA) and RN.

Do what your cardiac surgeon says. No smoking or vaping until you are well into your recovery phase. Once past that, the decision is basically up to you whether to start vaping again. If you have been able to be nicotine-free over that extended time, you may find that you don't have a physical/behavioral need anymore.
