It does because nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, some people have posted the same thing in the past and it's ultimately up to you. I would try to go without but if I couldn't I would vape before smoking, that's just my personal opinion. As well as not being sure if it would really have any measurable bearing on the procedure or healing afterwards. But physicians when dealing with people's lives I would hope err to the side of caution and this is why the recommend it.

I had 2 major surgeries 2 years ago when I was still smoking. Neither time was I told not to smoke, but I was told that smoking would slow my recovery and increase my risk of infection. I smoked up until the minute I was hospitalized both times. I had nicotine patches (drs orders) and used cigalikes (I hid these) both times. I recovered just fine.

Now I'm not recommending that you vape, I'm just thinking your doctor is being cautious - overly cautious in my opinion. Maybe you should do what I do -- listen to your doctor, weigh it against your own judgment, then decide for yourself.

I had spinal neck surgery a few years ago and got the same instructions. Except it was a month before and 3 months after. Dr said smoking reduced the oxygen supply to the spine and would stop the vertebrae healing. It was my first attempt to quit with e-cigs, some lookalike called Elite. I did make it through the time period. Right before the surgery he asked me if I had stayed off the smokes. I showed him my e-cig and he smiled and pulled one out of his own pocket. So at least that doctor presumably thought it was OK. A week before my 3 months was up I bought a carton of cigarettes and went crazy. Those cigalikes weren't the greatest.

Having said all that, as far as I know there hasn't been any research on how vaping affects healing compared to smoking. So the doctors are probably guessing as much as we are.

It's gonna be tough!

This is just my opinion but I have had a few surgeries that I smoked before and immediately after and healed fine. Again my opinion but a puff here and there especially of a low mg liquid will probably not make a huge impact on your recovery.

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor but I could play one on TV just give everyone interferon.

If you're new to vaping I imagine it's hard to think about no nicotine. Much of smoking is the hand to mouth and the warmth in the lungs. Try vaping w/o nic and see?

Yes i'm new to vaping, i started 6 days ago. Vaping w/o nicotine will be my only option i think.

Some of us here vape unflavored, you can grab some VG/PG locally maybe for a quick test.

We'll throw ya a Huge party afterwards!!!!!!!

I remember a fellow here was mixing his own flavors and always put the nic in last. Once he forgot the nic and vaped nic-less unknowingly for quite awhile- didn't miss it at all.
