I generally only get heartburn maybe once or twice a month, tops. And that's almost always from eating something that I already knew was going to give me heartburn.

But, I've noticed that since I started vaping about 4 months ago, I tend to get heartburn quite a bit more often. I finally figured out that when I use certain juices, I end up with heartburn after a few hours. So far, I've nailed down a couple of different chocolate liquids and one maple liquid as definite culprits.

Anyway, I'm wondering if this ever happens to anybody else?

I get 'heartburn', or an acid reflux thing going on several days a week, and take an OTC 12 suppression medication for it. I can't say my requency nor severity has noticeably increased with vaping though.

I couldn't help but notice your ECF handle. Caffeine causes the problem for a lot of folks. Is it possible your consumption has increased recently? Or more stressful situations? Just thoughts.

Seems like i don't get heart burn as much as i did before i started vaping. Although there is not a normal pattern for heart burn for me sometimes i can go months without having a problem while other times i can get it fairly regular for a couple months. I have been smoke free for a month now so i guess i am not a good example to look at.

I was getting heartburn very frequently when I was smoking 1 1/2 pack a day. I would take a 12 hour Heartburn pill almost every morning and usually a tums also for the immediate relief. I also drink ALOT of coffee which I am sure contributes. Since I started vaping on July 10th though I have only needed the 12 hour pills once or twice days a week and the occasional tums. Pizza seems to give me heartburn more than anything especially with pepperoni (my favorite topping). Since I have been vaping I also drink a lot more water than I used too which I am sure helps.

After almost 5 months of vaping it has gone away but for the first 3 1/2 months my heartburn was WILD and rampant. It was ridiculous. I was taking pepcid chewables every 12 hours, you're supposed to only take one every 24. Sometimes it got so bad I'd wake up in the middle of the night and have to make myself puke and it felt like liquid hot burning lava acid on the way out. Thank god it's gone now. I think what stopped it was decreasing my nicotine level from 24 to 12. Now I never have it anymore. Sorry about the TMI. Just wanted to be truthful about how bad it was and it was DEFINITELY e-cig related because I'm 23 years old and virtually never had heartburn before I picked up vaping. Good luck, hope you get it under control because it's absolutely miserable, I know.

PS: like a poster above stated.. Caffeine is a MAJOR contributer to heartburn, specially in the form of coffee and dark sodas. Foods containing a heavy level of tomato, citrus fruits, foods heavy in fat and/or sodium, eating too much of ONE food, and sugary drinks. Food/ drinks have never given me heartburn, I've always been a healthy eater. I drink low cal sports drinks and lots of non- acidic fruits and vegetables and white meats and seafood without a lot of sauce. If you have stomach problems, that's a gret diet to follow.

I've been vaping for 5-6 weeks. It's hard for me to tell if my heartburn/acid reflux has gotten better or worse since I have it rather bad. I have noticed that if I'm already having a bad day for it and I vape some lemonade juice or anything acidic tasting it gets worse. Eating chocolate is a serious trigger for me. Smoking is on the general list of triggers but I'm not sure if nicotine is the reason. The previous poster's experience with lowering their nicotine level being helpful does point that way. Also previously mentioned is caffeine and that is absolutely true. One trigger that surprises a lot of people is fried/fatty foods.
My advice, if you want it....If you really like vaping the flavors that seem to trigger your heartburn, then get one in 0 nic. and try it. If you do ok with that then try mixing it 50/50 with your current juice to take your nic. level down and see if you can still tolerate it. Hope this helps. :)

I've been vaping for about 10 months now and get heartburn a LOT less frequently now than I did when I was smoking. It's a huge improvement, as I used to go through at least a dozen ultra-strength tums per day and now maybe chew two of them, once a week or so.

But I haven't used a lot of different flavors, so maybe I've just been lucky and avoided the trouble makers.

Smoking cigarettes increases heartburn by decreasing the amount of saliva you produce, decreasing the amount of bicarbonates found in saliva, and relaxing the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) i.e the trap door between the esophagus and the stomach. Nicotine is suspected to be the primary culprit although I suspect it is more than that as many vapors still use nicotine (albeit at lower doses, maybe?) and have a decrease in symptoms overall.

As already noted, many people are susceptible to certain foods. Caffeine is definitely a known contributor to acid reflux, as well.

All that being said, my symptoms seem to be triggered if I vape a lot of menthol juices regardless of the nic content. So, for me, menthol is the culprit.

Damn, this forum moves fast!

Regarding all the caffeine comments: I do drink a lot of coffee, but no more than I always have. But, I'm quite sure that the heartburn I'm talking about is caused by some of the juices I've used.

I have noticed heartburn if I get carried away dripping and take up straight liquid into my mouth, I just swaller it carry on but this is apparently hard on a stomach.

Good point. I've definitely swallowed juice that way. Also done it occasionally by overfilling a carto. And I've noticed that when that happens, I'll usually get heartburn.

And jeez, it seems that a lot of you folks have suffered with some nasty heartburn issues. I feel for you guys... That's gotta just suck. :(

Anyway, thanks for all the feedback. Definitely some good info.
