Hey everybody. I've been reading quite a bit on the forum but I've yet to find another scenario such as mine. I'm not trying to quit smoking. I quit cold turkey nine years ago. I have not thought much about cigarettes since then, but when I do, I could smoke a pack at once. I enjoyed smoking. I quit because I didn't enjoy coughing up a lung every morning. I have said to my friends many times that if someone could come up with a cigarette that was not bad for me, then I would take up smoking again. Some of you may understand where I'm coming from. So, what is some opinions on me starting up with these e-smokes? Does that make sense? Has anyone else here done this? Thanks

I quit 3 years ago, and I never had the coughing or anything but did find it harder on my lungs when I went jogging and stuff like that. For me the health issues were valid, but the smell from smoking was another strong reason for why I quit. As far as I can tell these devices bypass both of those criteria so I am giving it a try.

I ordered my first kit just a couple days ago, the info on that is linked in my signature.

I think that most vapers started because they were unable to quit smoking. After quitting for all those years you should be real proud of yourself. It would be a real shame to go back to a nicotine addiction again.
He doesn't have to - there are 0 (zero) nic liquids available from MOST E liquid suppliers; he (I'm using a generic 'he' btw lol) can just have the inhale, flavor, exhale thing goin on and not worry about nicotine :thumb:

Makes sense to me. I never intended to quit smoking - I like the act of smoking and the smoke and vapor.... for me and perhaps not for everyone, it's along these lines (without saying I'm 'like Sherlock' ;-)

Sherlock Holmes sat silent for a few minutes with his finger tips still pressed together, his legs stretched out in front of him and his gaze directed upwards to the ceiling. Then he took down from the rack the old and oily clay pipe, which was to him as a counselor, and, having it, he leaned back in his chair, with the thick blue cloud-wreaths spinning up from him, and a look of infinite languor in his face.

Holmes to Watson: It is quite a three pipe problem, and I beg that you won't speak to me for fifty minutes.

Or, we can remember the case in which Holmes needed a pound of the strongest shag tobacco to resolve the problem and stayed alone all the day smoking, and Watson founded him in a sort of trance, in a room that "was so filled with the smoke that the light of the lamp upon the table was blurred by it, and my first impression as I opened the door was that a fire has broken out".

That said, I did quit smoking the day I got my Joye 510 ecig - 7+ months ago. I'd suggest you vape 0mg nicotine - no need to start that up again. I think the vapor should satisfy what you've been missing and the flavors are just an added plus!

Here's a good inexpensive way to try it out:

Joye 510 NO BOX

and the zero nicotine eliquid:
Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store.

Over $59 total will get you free shipping.

Wow! I've never had so many reads and replies on any forum post I've ever made. Thanks very much. Another question...Does the nicotine add anything at all to the flavor or the hit?

Yes. It makes the flavor a bit harsher and nicotine is the source of throat hit - heat enhances it (which is why some like the 510 atomizer) and some flavors can simulate it (but not duplicate it) by irratating the mucous membrane - pepper, cinnamon, etc.

While I recommended not adding the nicotine that was a bit PC - many here would recommend that you not start up again at all, but I figure you're likely an adult. :) I'll never go to 0mg nic because I like it in my system plus it's anti-inflamatory, anti-alzhiemer's, anti-parkinson's and pro-focus and concentration, imo and from what I've read.

If you have quit and only have a passing urge, then no don't start back-even with the e-cig. Until more information is out there, I cannot sit here and type that you should order an e-cig. We do not know that these are NOT bad for us, we think they must be better than reg. cigarettes. You are already asking about the nicotine, which you have gotten out of your system. No reason to start back up! Just my opinion.

For low nicotine hit you can always order whatever strength then dilute it yourself. If it has the enough kick and flavor half way diluted then you just doubled the amount a bottle will last you.

I don't think with a low amount it will cause any more damage then a high sugar, high caffeinated, carbonated drink would, but I am far from an expert on any of these matters so just figure out what works for you.

I just went to e-cigs after being off real cigs for over twenty years: Just as a personal opinion, I found that I missed reals cigs quite often, even after all these years, and since life can be so very short, painful, irritating, etc., I didn't want to pass up something that I enjoyed. And since e-cigs are (probably much) safer than real cigs, I figure you only go around once, so I might as well get all the enjoyment while I can. :) YMMV.

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else. If you have kicked the habit and been "clean" for that long then why start again.
But if the urge is too much, which I can understand, I would recommend using 0 level. Don't get yourself hooked and go higher.
Hell I smoked ultra lights for a number of years because I said I was going to quit but I never did. Now I just started vaping and I'm using a 26mg strength. I'm sure that's plenty more than I had before but at least I'm not smoking.

I understand how you feel. I recently had a conversation with someone who was quitting with meds and did not understand why I would choose ecigarettes or that I do enjoy the process of smoking (just hate the smell and health concerns).

Just realize that even though it is different, it is still a new technology and the lack of knowledge by non esmokers as well as the visual association with the bad habit of smoking will still cause others to think badly of you for your decision.

Personally, my love for the ritual of smoking is greater than my concern for what other people think of my choice. But if you care what others think about you, I would think twice.

I must join the other voices of reason here. If you've quit smoking cigarettes and do not struggle with staying free of them, then why start vaping? For those of us who could not successfully kick our smoking habit, ecigs are a godsend, but I'd much rather be totally free of the need for any nicotine delivery substitute. I envy you.

HI, guys and gals:
#1. this is a pretty old thread, i wonder if the OP is even reading it?
#2. I pretty much agree with everyone in that if the OP is happy not smoking then they should forget the e-cig and move on (like ships passing in the night). BUT I know if I had quit cold turkey 9 years ago and was happy and never thought about smoking again I wouldn't find myself on the ECF looking at PV advice either. Sound to me like the OP is about to start smoking again....IMO
