Ive started vaping four days ago now to try and quit smoking and so far so good but from lurking on here I can see there is so much more to this than just buying one thing.

Im starting out with a evod kangertech bcc starter kit and I find it pretty easy to use.
Since I am just starting out on it I bought juice thats tobacco flavored that has nicotine in it, Im at a 12. Used to smoke a pack within 2 days. I find I am puffing on my vape a lot though more than if I were smoking actual cigarettes. Thats normal right?, Im wondering if I should just switch to non nicotine juice asap or if I should go a lower dose of nicotine after this bottles gone then do non nicotine after that.

I hope I made some semblance of sense. Any advice?

I wouldn't switch to zero nic too soon. There are lots on here that did and had to increase it. The reason you are puffing more is because eliquid is not as effective in vapor as it would be in smoke, the molecules are larger and take a bit longer to enter your system. If you start feeling nauseous or slightly off that would be the time to go lower on the nic.

Hello, Beitriis . . . Welcome to the ECF boards.

Congrats on taking the first step in becoming smoke free.

Don't rush it. Take your time in lowering the nic content of your juices. You want to keep any nic cravings at bay and avoid the nails. However, please do lower the said, as recommended per the above posts.

The vapor particles are larger than the smoke particles. It take longer to absorb the nicotine. Perfectly normal that you vape more than you smoked.

I smoked camels for about fifteen years. I started vaping about a year ago at 18mg nic. After maybe 6 months I went down to 12. I've just recently gone down to 9.

So I'd say take your time. The vape satisfies the physical part of the habit, but that nicotine is a powerful habit to kick as well.

to ecf Beitriis. So glad you are here. 12mg is a bit high for someone who only smoked a half a pack a day but as long as you are not feeling bad, I would go with it. Later on you can always reduce your nic if you want to. I personally started out with 18mg and I am still using it over a year later. The nic has been said not to be anymore harmful to you that caffeine so I am not really concerned. It's all the other chemicals that are leaving your body that are making you feel much better and it just keeps getting better each day. Look forward to reading how well you are doing. Have fun and happy vaping to you.

Hello Beitriis and welcome to the ECF House. Congrats on your 1st step away from the stinkies. I have been smoke free for a little over a month and I chain vape like a son of a gun. It was suggested I start out at 12mg of Nic but opted for 8mg and I haven't had a smoke since. Lots of support here and good info. keep coming back, you cant see everything here in just a day.

Thanks everyone! , so far I haven't felt too nauseous or bad headaches but I do find Im constantly clearing my throat or coughing and I get kind of sleepy early but I figured that's just probably part of quiting smoking.

I went to a shop and the guy who sold me my e cig said I should go with 12 so I figured he probably knew better than I did about that sort of thing.

I had a plan of going with this bottle of 12 then when it was gone go to an 8 then once the 8 was finished try going to a 0.

Ive got a weird problem though I feel like I gave up my smoking addiction and now have one for the vape. I feel like I could vape all day. Im sure that's probably normal though also probably better for me than the smoking was. (Its also another reason I'd like to get to vaping without having any nicotine in the juice.

Yeah... It's definitely habit forming. A lot of us have just traded one habit for another... Thankfully it's one that appears to be far better for us.

I would only cut back on the nic level if you feel nauseous or have bad headaches since you're not experiencing that at all right now it's safe to say the 12mg is working for you. Like the others have said make sure that you drink tons of water while vaping. The clearing of your throat and coughing will last for a while, if I remember correctly mine lasted for a month, just because your lungs are coughing up all that gunk from smoking.

If your goal is to get down to 0mg you'll eventually get there in time. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I started out at 18mg, then 11mg, then 6mg and finally 0mg. Now I vape ridiculously sweet vapes so I don't eat ridiculously sweet sweets! lol

Yes, I fully agree. Im an asthmatic and with smoking I always felt super heavy after a smoke but where I had been a smoker for so long I always had troubles quitting because I would just feel so sick through the withdrawal.

With the vape I dont feel heavy and I feel like I just overall can breathe better and only feel my asthma when Im actually exerting myself in physical activity.

Im also feeling as if quitting is much easier and like I can beat my bad habit once and for all which gives me a major boost of energy and happiness. Im very glad I chose to give vaping a chance and Im also very pleased I came to the forums as everyone has so far been very helpful and kind which also makes me feel good about my choices :)

Mmm that vanilla one sounds amazing! I tried a friends once and it was a black cherry flavor but tasted like cherry coke I loved it. I cant wait to try other flavors but the store around here sells 30ml for 20 dollars so Im waiting a little while before going to nuts into buying flavors. Also I'm nervous about trying to clean my vape before adding different juice, dont want to mess it up.

mmmmm Cherry Coke!! lol Since you're just starting I would check out E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes Online | E Juice - Mt Baker Vapor for juices. 15ml for 4.99-7.99 not bad 30mls will run you anywhere from 7.50-10.50.

Hi Beitriis,
I am new to vaping too, and like you, I took the vape shop's recommendation for Nic level. I was smoking between 10 and 15 unfiltered Camels a day and they recommended 11 mg liquid. I haven't had a cigarette since I walked into the vape shop a couple of weeks ago. Amazing.
If you decide you want to step down to a lower nicotine level, one option might be to step down more gradually than 12 to 8 by mixing bottles of the two strengths to ease the shock to your system.

As with most of the above posts, I wouldn't drop that nic concentrate level yet. I'm actually surprised 12mg is enough. But, if it works for you, keep it up. I used to smoke newports, then changed to a 24mg vanilla flavor for my first vape e-juice. Now, I recently switched to an 18mg blue pomegranate and ordered eight different 18mg flavors to try out. The downgrade from 24-18mg at first was very noticeable and I didn't know if I could stay so low. After a day or two, it actually feels alot better not to depend on that harsh kick. I'll probably give it a month or two however before I drop it any lower than 18mg.

Congrats and welcome!

I vaped the same way when I first quit analogs. I think I was nervous that I had to keep the urge away so I didn't revert back. It's completely normal and you will slowly adjust as time goes on.

Something that really helped me after the first 2 months of "chain-vaping" was taking on the mindset of treating an e-cig just an analog. Rather than holding my mod in my hand and constantly wanting a vape, I would set it aside and vape only when my cravings for an analog came up. Typically, for me, that was when I first woke up, and after eating. This seemed to helped a lot.

Good luck and again, congrats and welcome!
