Hey, I casually learned about e-cigs while browsing the deal extreme website once and I thought they were just the neatest little gadgets ever. Well a little while ago I was in a stressful time period and that combined with curiosity/everyone around me smokes, I decided to try it out. I ordered one of the cheap DX junks, and I tried it and I really liked it. Mostly because it seems to have helped with my nasty sinus problems, which have been giving me no end of trouble. I also liked the taste, nicotine high, and the way it freshened my breath. Well needless to say you get what you pay for, my 10 dollar junk has broken numerous times, and is currently case removed with the guts in a pill bottle with a manual pushbutton switch soldered in there. Obviously I can't take this anywhere without looking like some weird druggie .... thing. So I've recently ordered a 501 starter kit with manual batteries from awesomevapor. Curiously reading the beginner threads talking about how everyone that uses these are trying to quit smoking, I felt rather left out, as I have never and never will smoke an analog. Has anyone else done this, started with e-cigs without trying to quit analogs?

TL: DR version: I never smoked an analog, and tried e-cigs out of curiosity and liked them. Your opinions/questions/comments/advice?

Now I wouldn't say that- I carry a wierd looking PV dosen't bother me, but yeah yours looks a little sketchy- but who care- Welcome to the forum.

Nice first post- brought a crappy e cig and endend up modding it- nice work.

Now you say you never smoked but everyone around you did- so instead of smoking you did this.....?......................???

hmmmm? what do I think?

well you are either a reason e cigs are great- cause you might have started smoking instead ( infact I'm sure you would have)

or

You will be the newly addicted to Nic. - The person who should never have been exposed to Nic.

Depends on who is telling the story.

I started eCigs as a novelty, and for the concept... Never thought about quitting analogs - it just happenend! From the day I got my eJuice, the only times that I have smoked an analog have been when all my batteries died. And damn, they where nasty..... :)

Odd thing is now my wife (An Ex-Smoker for years), and a neighbor now uses a 0 Nicotine juice and attys that I made up for them, to vape with me when they feel like it! BWAH-HA-HA! We are reconverting ExSmokers!

I dont think you are alone!
Although we havent talked enough for me to decide if I think you are weird :)

Honestly, there is the occasional vaper that started vaping without prior analog usage, I have even run into one that started at zero-nic and increased to 24mg over time.

Vaping with zero nic can be beneficial - vaping has cleared up my sinus problems too - although I dont know if that is from quitting analogs.

Although, in my mind, adding the nicotine - which to me very addictive - is an odd thing to just "try".

Yeah, I looked up the side effects of nicotine first and decided that it wasn't particularly too terribly bad for you by itself. Somewhat similar to caffeine. Also there was a time I went without for a few weeks one of the times it broke and I got too frustrated with it and put it away for a while. I noticed a little bit of withdrawl, but it wasn't too bad. Of course, I dont vape much and ive never had a hard time with going off stuff before, I guess i have too much willpower to spare when I need it.

I would highly recommend e-cigs to any currant smoker but WOULD NOT recommend this to a non-smoker. Nicotine is very addictive, what would you do if this is banned and we can't get juice, start smoking analogs?

Here, Here.... (Of course my wife and people I want to torment excepted...!) One of my greatest concerns is how "Cool" these are to kids, and how good they taste. I still try to hide it from my son - but he keeps digging through my stuff finding the flavors and pretty bottles - so it may be a problem - I keep having to tell him that it really is a bad habit - just better than smoking....

Yeah.. that has become our recent problem too. My daughter is 7, so she's perfectly competent when it comes to reading labels like "Cherry" and "Blueberry". Hard to convince her that this stuff is very toxic and that she shouldn't touch it.

Not to worry, we're good parents and the stuff is out of her reach. But this is a weird situation since she absolutely hated our analogs... but is now intrigued by our PV's.

We'll handle it. Just like we're going to have to handle Cherry Vodka.

I'd say this is probably the case-study the government have been looking for to ban ecigs. just don't admit that you're 15 years old and we're all hunky-dory.

Dont worry, im perfectly legal. I guess im lacking comprehension of how ingrained the social stigmas are for the concepts. I mean, its perfectly acceptable for young people to intake massive amounts of caffiene and sugars and all the other artificial chemicals are in energy drinks. and inhale combustion byproducts containing 500 carcinogens. while i inhale minor amounts of vaporised nicotine, which after doing reasearch, seemed not very bad for you at all, and somewhat similar to caffiene, and i am doing something terrible. if anything its the consumption of energy drinks that should be scrutinized more.

That's pretty much what occurs to me, too.

It isn't a personal judgment, nor I do I think you are weird for enjoying e-cigs. Frankly, there are a number of health *benefits* to nicotine that we have yet to fully explore.

However, as a former smoker who is hoping desperately that these things don't become outlawed, stories like yours make me a little nervous. The FDA already seems to be expressing concerns that e-cigs will only lead to a larger segment of nicotine addicts.

IT would be better (IMO) if you just have the e cigs without the nicotine juice...There are plenty of other flavors out there! That's my ultimate goal, stop nicotine completely...

Ah, and now we get to the root of the controversy. Why did I make a concious choice to use nicotine at all? I personally think that all the negative associations about nicotine come from tobacco usage. Before deciding to do it, I did research about the drug nicotine itself, its effects, both positive and negative, short term and long. I would assume that you all agree that starting to smoke is still a conscious decision no matter the circumstances. Does that make me worse that I made an informed decision to do it as opposed to what happens to the majority of individuals who start with a peer pressure akin to "hey, wanna try this? its cool"? Should I be looked upon with disdain because I made an intelligent yet possibly controversial decision?

From what I've read, nicotine isn't all that bad, and even has some health benefits. I guess I analyzd the effects of nicotine from a pharmaceutical standpoint, and not a "drug" standpoint, and found the benefits to outweigh the negative side effects.

Sorry for all the writing, I'm just fascinated by what you people have to say in a debate about this.

Ah, so what I'm seeing is that it's not so bad except that I should probably keep quiet about my reasons.

In that case, mister government officials, I started smoking analogs, but I'm using these to quit, and I just lied because I didn't want to admit it.
