Hi!

There I was, minding my own business, when my dad (a long term smoker) said, with a serious look on his face "I really wish you would stop smoking. It really is just terrible for your health." My dad has never tried to stop me from doing whatever I liked before. This. Was. Serious. "I hear that your brother", he said, "is smoking one of those e-cigarette things. He says it tastes like cherry. Maybe you should try it." My brother, 2 years older than me, is also a long-term smoker. So I send him a message, and he responds saying it's the best thing he's ever done, and he can run for the bus without turning in to a panting, sweating mess; he's never looking back.

The next thing I know, he's telling me my dad's on the eCigs, too. My dad. Aged 66, smoked since he was 12, had been smoke-free for two weeks.

Well. Welllllllllll. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

I bought one of these (I tried to link to it, but it says I'm not allowed! It's a VIP Photon tank Kit at vipelectroniccigarette.co.uk). It's what my brother was using. It seems to be doing the trick. I never intended to quit analogues (I think that's the term you "proper" vapers use to describe ciggies), but it appears I have done. 13 years a smoker (yuck - I don't like to think I'm old enough to have been smoking for that many years!), and just like that, vanilla flavoured vapour has won me over. I still have two nearly-full packs of cigs at home, so prepared was I for this attempt to be a complete failure. I've only been tempted to smoke them once (and didn't! So ner!)

So, yes. I'm feeling pretty good about myself. I did think that I would be able to magically run down the street without collapsing, but it turns out that even if you quit putting tar in your lungs, > 10 years of zero exercise means you can't run. Seriously. Don't try. It hurts.

So - yes! I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm going to have lots of questions in the next few weeks. But here are a couple to start.

1) Is the ecig I'm using rubbish? I can't seem to find any posts about this brand, but I'm wildly guessing it's like the eGo? But, when answering, please bear in mind that this VIP Photon has probably been successful at converting me because re-filling takes one minute (less time than it used to take me to rummage through my handbag and find my ciggies and lighter). I've read about coil building and whatnot, and... well. When do I have the time to do that? Really? What if I'm dying for my nicotine fix, and I've built the coil wrong and... and...

2) Is there a "next step" from my eCig? Something "better" (whatever that means) that doesn't require me to build my own coils? I don't appear to be fussed about the amount of vapour I'm producing, as long as it tastes yummy and cures my cravings.

And finally - thank you guys. I've been lurking here a few days, mostly on this New Members bit, and seeing the positive responses you have all given to new converts has kept me going. And alleviated my boredom whilst at work. You rock.

There is always going to be something "better" than any starting kit. Whether it is a generic/re-branded eGo which you probably are using, a Vision Spinner or Joytech Twist, an inexpensive "mod" manufactured in China, to an American-made Provari or DNA-30 regulated mod. In this still very new world of vaping technology, it almost always pays off to buy from already established, recognized brand-name manufacturers - "you get what you pay for". Buying something off-brand and your results can be hit or miss (mostly miss).

Generally speaking, a Vision Spinner eGo or Joytech Twist eGo battery setup with a decent clearomizer is a great starter setup. This will get you off of cigarettes and keep you off of them. However, you can get even better performance by advancing up the vaping ladder with better gear. It just depends upon what your expectations and goals are. What ever is working for you is the best setup for you.

Congrats on quitting the cigs--and welcome to the rest of your life ;)

Don't try to learn everything at once...like the old question goes-- "How do you eat an elephant? --one bite at a time"

Your kit is fine if it's doing what you want...folks will be happy to tell you all about the best systems (in their opinion) --but start slow..read lots and enjoy!

congrats and welcome. as a former 27 year analog smoker, I've learned a lot in the last 9 months as a vaper. 1st and most important thing for me is the taste . if your device makes it taste good then it cant be rubbish. breathability from your tanks would be my first step. I like a more airier draw. some like a tight draw. changing tanks is what got me away from analogs for good.

so good luck and vape on !

Olly - yes, I hardly saw any vapers up until a couple of months ago. I see them even more now I've started - I feel like we're on the same team and I want to high-five them!

Baditude - thank you very much for your links. The first to your video on clearomizers was very useful - I didn't know you could get them with replaceable coils/wicks that, most importantly, come pre-assembled. That sounds like exactly what I'm looking for!

I'm sure I will be back with more questions. I haven't even started to venture in to juice flavours yet, although my bro just introduced me to "Mum's Custard" by Digbys Juices. It's so yummy, but feels like it's clogging my clearo, so it'll be a special treat, I think. Perhaps that's where the replaceable coils/wicks come in?

Can I assume that, if you're replacing the coils/wicks as per that vid, that the actual case bit that stores the liquid lasts until I accidentally drop it or similar? It seems the replaceable coils/wicks (I want to call them heads but can't remember already) would stop the need for having to buy a whole new clearo each time (which is what I'm doing, and at £5 a pop, that seems more expensive than buying new heads [that's what I'm calling them now]).

Hi!

I haven't got a good word to say about VIP, so I'll keep my mouth shut.

You should look into a clearo with a replaceable head, yes, as the heads are £1.20 instead of £5 for the clearo.
I pay £3.49 for my plastic clearomisers and around £8 for pyrex (mini protank).

My daily vaping device is an iTasteVV v.3 from here.

PS - VIP is a rip off. :)

Lol! If that's true, I will definitely move away! The bonus for me with them is they have a little kiosk in the shopping centre near where I live, so I can stock up on the weekends. However, juice choices are rubbish, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I venture in to the world of juices.

I like the idea of a variable voltage device, so I will definitely look at the one you've suggested, especially as it appears to be a UK site (the US seem to have so many more!)

The Mini Protank you linked to says it has a "removable drip tip". What does that mean? If I bought a couple of those clearos, and I guess the Protank & Evod Coil heads from the same site (again, can't link to them, sorry), would I also need to wick it myself? The replaceable bits in Baditude's vid appealed to me (I think they were the ICLEAR dual coil heads [but what's the difference between 16 and 30?!]) because it was the whole thing, so I'm sort of tempted by that kind of set up.

Thank you again for your help, I'm getting slightly less confused each day :)
