What gauge kanthal did you get?@Letitia @stols001 @HazyShades @Baditude @tailland
Sunday, midnight and I think I am kinda done with burning holes in my wallet!!
Ordered the intake and ammit 25.
And I ordered the asmodus reborn for 4.3K and an Atlantis 2 tank.
Also ordered an extra pair of batteries, some cotton bacon, coil master v3 diy, a1 kanthal.
All done and dusted and all ordered locally and now I’m poor
But I’m also happy
I just have a few operational questions about mods and RTAs in general as this is my first foray in to this territory, please do bear with me a bit more
To all ye helpful souls![]()
Instead of cotton bacon you should have considered ordering some rayon.. Ask @Letitia whysome cotton bacon
I don't like cotton bacon but it works fine. I prefer KGD but use rayon for a few of my sweeter juices.Instead of cotton bacon you should have considered ordering some rayon.. Ask @Letitia why
But rayon works better.it works fine
Was really hoping you would post 26g, perfect! Soon as it all comes you'll be set for years (other than new batteries and wick every couple of years).@Letitia
26ga. It was as per @Baditude ’s suggestion considering my experience or lack thereof!
@HazyShades
Didn’t know about rayon and I don’t think I stumbled upon it at the local vendors during all my browsing. Will bear that in mind!
Fiber freaks original no 2 was also suggested by a number of local builders ( I mean on the local Indian forums)
Rayon does work, but so do many other wicking materials. KGD or COTN threads are great; just use rayon for alien or anything with more than 3 core wires or over 95vg.But rayon works better.
I've been using nothing but rayon (unless I run out of it) ever since @Rat2chat2 was kind enough to send me some of her rayon stash.
Greetings Ananth. I agree with Bad, etc; about .26 gauge but think you should a buy a roll of .28 too.@Letitia

Correct. Using a regulated mod, coil resistance is irrelevant. The electricity is not coming from the battery, but from the regulator chipset. However, the coil's resistance can provide a clue to the range of wattage settings you can use.@HazyShades @Letitia @stols001 @Baditude @tailland
Mods:
In my head, other than knowing how to operate the mod in terms of tanks and batteries, the only thing to bear in mind I suppose is the resistance of the coil that is being used so that I can determine the wattage that I should set. So if the range of the coil is 50-70W, then I guess 50 would yield a cooler vape (with lesser juice consumption) and vice versa at 70. So it is up to me to experiment within the supported range to arrive at a value that I am happy vaping at
Correct?
Some RTA's have a "reputation" of performing better with a particular range of coil resistances. For example, the early model Kayfun RTA's performed best with a ohm range of 1.2 ohm to 2.0 ohm. That's a rather high resistance considering the sub-ohm coils often used in other rebuildable tanks.RTAs:
This is where I guess I need a little more help.
As far as building coils go...Where I need some help is the resistance to aim for...
Or is it purely preferential and it is more like I want juice efficiency so I choose 0.8 or I want tons of vapor so I go with 0.1? I guess what I am asking is the starting point on how to decide on what I am building towards.
NO, my point was simply start low and work your watts up. I start about 20w below recommended higher watt coils and 10w below lower watt coils. I would never start a new coil at 70w. Fresh wicks need time to prime and you still get flavor, but it is likely to get better after the first few mls. Relax. You are likely to find your sweet spot will vary at times to so be prepared to indulge in some flexibility. You are looking for definite answers that don't exist due to subjectivity. The same will apply to building. Just wrap a few different coils with some diameter and # of wraps variations and find what you like and are comfortable with. In other words...play and learn.@Baditude
So let’s say I go with 1 ohm, then what’s my wattage range? The steam engine calculator does provide that heat flux thingie in the right which kind of gives the temperature of the vape, is that the guiding factor. I can always look up a specific RTAs build but I just wanted to know the general rule of thumbs you guys employ in this whole DIY universe
@Letitia
Wow, a full tank sometimes, juice is premium for me now!!! So to take an example with my newly acquired Atlantis 2 tank - the .3 is 70-80W and the .5 is 20-30W. So I suppose you want me to start at 70 and 20 resp and work my way up right? Or did I understand wrong? You cannot go beyond 30 for the .5 coil right, or even the max limits can be ignored?
