That thread is a grand testimony sir! An online community coming together to unanimously applaud your efforts is truly humbling! Yet something to bask in too. And you are still learning, that’s unadulterated humility, happy to have been at the receiving end of your help too!

@Letitia
Thanks, I now know what not to do :D
Don’t use LOCKED.
Don’t whine.
Check!

@Mowgli
Thanks for that detailed information. However shipping to India is going to be an exorbitant affair. I will hunt around too see if I can source them locally. Else I shall strive towards replicating @Baditude ’s feat!

Wow, you did my sourcing! Thank you so much!
One nooby question - wraps and pvc heat shrink tubing are the same right? Just seems like a little convoluted phrasing!
What is Avery label?
Also can I just write in them for labelling purposes, I mean directly on the wrap?
Those bands idea shown by @Mowgli are brilliant, will certainly start with Frank Zappa of course!

You can use a sharpie (marker) on the battery, I wouldn't advise writing on the wrap since it tends to wear off. Avery is simply a brand of labels with a sticky backing.

I used to have a diminutive crescent wrench on my keychain. The keychain clipped to my beltloop and the wrench, keys and all stuffed in my pocket so it wouldn't swing around and trash my junk. Yes, I was THAT evil barbarian in RL.

    Just popping in and back out with a quick comment or two. Good luck on your journey.
    will certainly start with Frank Zappa
    Up until earlier this week, I was singing 'Dancing Fool' in my head everytime, a member who's now moved on, posted. I think he moved to Montana to grow some dental floss. :toast:

    Moved to VU, but strangely quiet since some of us found him.

    This should do for the label front, I suppose

    @Mowgli
    You know in my 2 weeks out here I have found more Zappa fans than in all my years of existence in India !! So difficult to share musical tastes when there is no one around to share with :(
    That pic with the label and Lather, inspiring. Now I am all the more keen on getting labels and sticking my favourite Zappa songs into them. But the Herculean task of deciding on my favourite songs await, not at all looking forward to it!!

    @Wayneo
    Thanks for that, now I cannot get Dancing Fool out of my head :D

    Tales of an tyro coil builder:
    So today I decided to embark on my first coil building exercise. I assembled all the stuff I needed from memory (I think I have watched a gazillion YT videos on coil building, so I went impromptu !!) and I was shooting for a resistance of 1 ohm. Conservative and hopeful.
    First coil went to the trash right away, it was all mangled and to twisted to straighten. After all I did have 30 feet in 26g Kanthal, so decided to take another one.

    This time around everything went well and I thought I got a 7 wrap coil (it was impossible to count, it was like some illusion always giving me a different result, gave up immediately!)

    I then went straight to the 512 mini v2 with the deck in it. Installing was a total pain - working with things at mm range is not easy. At least not as easy as it seems on YT. Anyway after much wrangling I got the coil installed onto the Intake.

    The first problem was faced here - the posts are so far apart that 7 wraps is not really enough, the last wrap on each end kinds of stretched slightly into the post. It basically enters the post at an angle and there is nothing much I can do about that. I remember that on some of the Intake videos that I saw the were using Fused Claptons, alien etc which was fat and the leads went straight into the post. I suppose this is normal. With the coil master rod, I kind of positioned the coil slightly above the air flow and made it as even as I could, not easy people :D

    Second problem : the meter read 1.24 ohms :D :D :D Steam engine puts that at 9 wraps, I must have got profoundly enthusiastic and jigged away to kingdom come !! But surprisingly the firing was really good. It heated evenly on the first go and after some more prodding and strumming and etc and etc, the coil glowed a nice orange throughout and that was that!

    Next to the wicking and this is truly ghastly work!! Everything was cool until I was trying to follow the Intake wicking style which wanted the cotton just inside the hole but not protruding. After a lot of snipping with cotton bits flying all around me (man, one wicking wastes so much cotton, there must be a more efficient way!) I thought I got it down as best as I could. Juiced it up. Fired again. All looked well.

    My aim was to vape at around 20W but I wanted to go up from 10 in steps of 2, like advised. I gave it some empty drags (without pressing fire) and I got so much juice in my mouth. Gave that up and started at 10, continued up the way to 20. It was spitting here and there now but after around 10 drags all was well. No spitting. No burnt tongues (!!).
    So is that spitting normal? Is that related directly to wicking? Not one dry hit yet though, so it cannot be all bad :)

    One thing - I used the same liquid as I did on the Atlantis 2 and I can say with certainty that the flavour was more pronounced on the Intake. Strawberries and cream (aka Unicorn Milk) tasted better on my single coil rta than on the Atlantis 2. Go figure :D

    Anything to comment, opine, scold, advice - fire away, ladies and gentlemen :)

    PS : Yes, I tend to like to write a lot. Apologies for the loooong ramble. Should I start using TL:DR;s ?!?!

    Congrats, a successful build!

    You don't need to prime puff an rta like a drop in. Saturate the wick, screw on tank, fill, vape. It's fine if the coil isn't a perfect fit. I usually space the coil if I feel it's needed. I tend to fit the coil so the wraps fit the af slots.

    Very few drop in coils/tanks will taste as good as a rta. You'll get a feel for wicking with practice so don't let it frustrate you. Find a juice you enjoy in the Atlantis and don't use it in the Intake. That way you will stay satisfied with the vape from the Atlantis or you can keep it for a backup.

    Also don't get so locked in deciding what wattage to use, just go with what tastes good and is wicking efficiently. Go up until the vape is too warm then down until you find that sweet spot. Be prepared for changing the watts as the mood strikes or if your chain vaping.

    @Letitia
    Thanks, sound advice as usual :)
    I tend to go cooler so as to conserve juice, I have made sure to order all 6mg nic strength juices so that I dont crave for ciggies. More sites are shutting down and the ban, it looks like, will kick in! So I'd rather have some extra juice at higher strength than run out of it !
    I never considered spacing, will give that a shot the next time. I guess if were to space then the leads would fall into the post slots straight. Makes sense, I also ignored the af slots. Will remember that too, this is intricate work !!

    Also, can you confirm if the labels are correct? I want to start using the reborn with the Atlantis 2 and would rather have 4 labeled batteries for now.

    Also wrapping is necessary only if the existing wrap is damaged right? You dont double wrap right? Wrapping is going to be difficult without a dryer, will figure that out for later, someone that I know should be having a blow dryer ;)

    Labels are the same I used. There is no right or wrong btw. I just prefer them for labeling my juices so had them handy for other things.

    Fat chance of a heating gun, I might have more luck with a blow dryer. Dont even know if hardware stores here sell heating gun :D
    Chain vaping = low wattage? Is that the relation?
    Usually but not always. Just relax and go with what is working at any given time. Your juices will have different notes with watt changes as well. I don't overthink my vape, you should try it.;)

    Thanks, I know I am bordering on the grating :D, so will shut it and keep experimenting !!
    Did not want to slap something bad on the batteries, hence the label concerns ! All is well for now.
    My reborn has been born and it is bearing the atlantis 2 tank now !
    See where I have come, astonishing really.
    And no ciggies in the last 2 days at all :D
