I bought a 510 last year in an attempt to quit cigs, didn't work out so well so I put it away.... I recently decided to give it another go, it's working out well and I have more equipment/juice on the way. My only issue is that every time I try dripping the juice leaks, sometimes I put as little as 1-2 drops on the atty and it leaks between atty/battery and sometimes atty/cart. Any advice?
Thanks
Julia

Oh and sometimes when I am vaping normally with the carts, I put the e-cig down and when I pick it up again, there are a few drops of juice on the table and on the side of the e-cig, I don't think I'm overfilling, but maybe I am :(

Welcome back, sweetmeat!

You may be overflowing atty. 1-2 drops shouldn't do that unless the atty is already very wet. The normal dripping routine is 3-4 drops, about 4-5 puffs and repeat. When you puff, do you hear gurgling? That means the atty is flooded. If juice is leaking between atty and batt, I hope you have manual 510s because juice going to auto batt will ruin it.

I use carts too and when the cart is a little small/loose, a little juice will come out sometimes. That is one of the downsides of using carts. What filler are you using? I use blue foam and after I refill it, I can hold the cart upside down and no juice will come out, but the foam is still moist. If juice is dripping when you do that, there's too much juice in the cart or your filler needs to be cleaned and fluffed.

edit: often, the "juice" that comes out between atty & cart is not all juice, some condensation too.

Thanks justaguy!
I use carts with the white fluff in them, maybe I'm using them a bit too long before chucking, and they're not holding the juice as well. That could account for the leaking. I know what you mean about the condensation, but sometimes theres a small pool of liquid, I don't want to accidentally get the stuff all over my house and then rub it in my eyes or something.

As for the dripping, I'm using a manual batt so no worries about that, just to make sure I'm understanding the process correctly, I'd take out the fluff, put a few drops on the atty, put the empty cart back on and vape? How many puffs should I get from that before I have to drip again? I'm scared to burn out my atty, it's the last one I have, until my order arrives *stressful*
Thanks again....

That white stuff can be washed and fluffed, though I replaced them with blue foam like this https://strictlyejuice.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67_49&products_id=222&zenid=4dmvitu7eqm4hj484elp0862f4. You can also get Fluval aquarium foam from pet shops and cut yourself. The main thing is the poly-fill/white stuff should not be too squished or it could move around and not hold the juice, thus the leaking. I do not have a leakage problem, shouldn't be one if equipment is maintained.

Removing the filling, you are using the empty cart as a "drip tip". Nothing wrong with that. Again, 3-4 drops, 4-6 puffs and repeat. I "tailpipe" sometimes - drip in atty and puff without cart, lips get a little warm. :)

Sweetmeat, I have been vaping since 08/24/10 and I got away from carts about a month in and I have been dripping ever since. It is a costant battle fo me with leaky attys. I used to like my EGO because the cone would let the juice just stay trapped in the cone and I didnt have to worry about it. But now I own the Icon from pure smoker and the original top piece were the atty screws in doesnt have a juice damn, so I carry a napkin with me now days. I would recommend the EGO for someone try to stick with Vaping. its the perfect starter in my opinion. You just havde to get use to having something that looks bigger than a regular smoke.. Good luck to you! Dont give up, you will eventually like vaping more than smoking..

Try cartomizers, the way most people vape. Try Boge standard resistance cartomizers (around 3 ohms), the most popular brand of cartos on 510 threaded devices. Slim ecigs should use standard reisstance. If you want to use the hotter lower resistance ones, buy a fat battery model or mod.

Mine almost never leak.

How I fill Vapor4Life KR8 cartos and Boge 510 cartos

With the carto off the battery... Pop out the soft cap with an unbent paperclip in the mouth hole, very careful not to catch stuffing or the wire loop.
Shake and open the eliquid

Fill
Hold a bit of tissue on the threaded end hole, tilt the carto, and add 18 drops per ml of capacity into the stuffing (Boges and most KR8 cartos are about 1ml).
Wait 15 seconds or so then see how many more drops the carto stuffing will soak in easily.

Cleanup
Clean up the threaded end, tilt open end down into tissue, puff into threaded end to clear air channel (Boges and the KR8 cartos I use have a defined center air channel and I want to see light through that) While the carto is still open end down, town a soft bunch of tissue tot he top of the stuffing to get the loose juice - this will have prevent leaks.

Settle
Cap and let it settle - I lay it on different sides for 15-20 minutes to make sure every bit of stuffing gets damp so I won't singe the carto. if you use thicker juice than me (I use 20% Vg or less) then you may need to wait much longer.

While vaping
While vaping, if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or the carto is getting hotter than normal, I take the carto off the battery and add eliquid. Alos, I use such light sediment-free juices, I can look at the stuffing and see if it needs juice because the stuffing goes back to near-white.

I often use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece on Boge and KR8 cartos (not to drip into since the juice would head for the central air channel). Easy to pop out to add juice.

Thanks so much for the responses everyone!
I've been dripping since last night and it seems to be working well, I think when I tried before I must have been flooding it, but when it works well it's very satisfying! I feel the nicotine buzz much quicker which really helps when I'm craving :)

Hey, sweetmeat if you want to try the Fluval foam, I can send you some. Just PM me with your address and I'll get it out to ya'!

Thanks for the offer carpe, I have a petshop a few blocks from me, it's a small one but if they offer it I'll get some there, if I can't find it though I may take you up on that offer. Whats the advantage with the foam, does it hold the juice better/last longer?

It lasts a LOT longer and allows the juice to wick better. It doesn't seem to get all mucked up like the fluffy white stuff does. If it does, just cut another small piece and stuff it in. A box will last years.

Sweet, you can get the purest vape that I'm aware by dripping. There is a learning curve. When it's not pulling right or have leaking issues, remove the atty, blow out the drops into a tissue several times and try again. You'll be surprised at how much juice may be expelled. Since the atty is primed, 2 drops should do it, another if needed. You can avoid most leaking and flooding by listening to the the sound of the sizzle in your atty when you fire it. You'll learn the perfect sound and know when to add drops.

With a drip tip, there's no need for a cart. It can be frustrating at first. It's a wonderful vape once you get the hang of it. Good luck.

Well that 2 year old link is about as out of touch with todays world of dripping as it can get.
Here is just one example of the kind of information that is available here.
    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/atomizer-mods/221377-stainless-steel-doughnuts-dripping.html
There are tons of other threads about dripping to explore, things like how to dewick an atty, or even debridge one.
New products to look at, like the drip shield. Different resistance atomizers, and different voltages to use them at, and on and on.
In the end dripping is like any other form of vaping .... there is a learning curve.
You can shorten that learning curve with a little reading.
