I use the Avatar/handle Falconeer as, since 1974, I smoked Falcon Pipes, loved them, wrote about them and served as a Mod on Pipe Smoking Forums under that name.

I have been lurking here for some time, have learned a lot already and have been impressed with the forum’s dynamics. I did not however wish to join until I knew I was committed to vaping rather than smoking.

Today however marks six complete weeks since I last lit up a pipe with tobacco in it. To say I amazed is what you would term an understatement, for at the last go at not smoking some years ago, six weeks marked the date when the attempt hit the buffers and was abandoned. That six weeks was a miserable time - despite Nicotine Replacement therapy backed up with industrial doses of nicotine chewing gum - every waking moment I could think of nothing else other than that I desperately wanted a smoke.

This time round I didn’t even intend to stop - merely to use the e-pipe my son in law gave me until it was emptied and could be stuck in a drawer and forgotten about - but truthfully vaping has made the thing a total dawdle and never once has the Dreaded Craving For A Smoke Dragon emerged from its lair.

Like most people who set off down Steam Alley, at the start I preferred something that resembled my analogue weapon of choice, namely a pipe, but time experience and research has shown a Box Mod ( as I thin we call it) in the form of an istick 30w and a Nautilus Mini Tank to be a better way to go with the options of variable voltage and long battery life.

All I can say is if you want to quit tobacco for whatever reasons you have, give vaping a go - but do do your research and buy some good kit to start with, it will does pay.

Congratulations and welcome, although technically you've been here much longer than I. lol

I was looking at one of the pipes; looks really nice too and real wood. The bowl is really quite large but all the same, I could just imagine having one of those and from what you're saying it would be worth it.

Happy vaping and being smoke free. :)

You know on the pipe addiction front - when we were really honest most pipemen would admit that we inhaled our pipes quite a bit of the time, especially when they were freshly loaded or if we smoked a milder tobacco. A lot of us too started with cigarettes - I'm 66 now, I bought my first packet of 10 cigarettes aged 10, smoked them one afternoon when I dodged school, threw up, wobbled my way home but swore to myself I'd get good at the smoking thing. I did. I could roll my own good cigarettes by the time I was 14, was well hooked by the time I left school at 17 and when I switched to the pipe at age 24 was getting through three packets of Senior Service plain cigarettes a day. See why I am amazed at how Vaping has worked for me, and how painless it was.

Yeah, I came to vaping from little cigars. I inhaled all the time. I smoked cigarettes many years ago. I quit, but still had the craving even years later. In the time between quitting cigs, they went up in price so much that I bought cigarillos instead. Then got hooked on those.

That is incredibly similar to my run at tobacco!! Cigs, quite for a while, picked up a few single black and molds while fishing on the weekends and before you know it, I'm full on smoking and I mean smoking a pack a day of those things.......... All the way to the plastic!

Vaping will save my life, I'm very happy with the choices I have made so far! It's turned into a fun hobby for sure!

Make a point of doing as much research as you can about future devices, battery safety and if you go the build your own coil rout, learn ohms law. If you every have any question, never think it too dumb, ask here, you will be amazed at the quickness with which you will get your answer!!

Welcome;
there are many here that have a somewhat similar story.
I smoked for 30 years, 2 pack a day.
Then in 2013 my niece sent me a cigalike; it was terrible - it was menthol; but it was enough to get me curious; after a few months I found some other cigalikes and when I tried them out I became convinced they could work;

then I was like a dog hunting a rabbit.

Many thanks for the welcome - and as importantly for sharing your experiences. When I took up Vaping as well as researching kit I researched Forums and Support Networks and what I liked about this Forum was it did offer support and help.

There truly is no such thing as a silly question, if you don't know the answer, and in Vaping there is a lot to learn if you want to make the change and stick with it - here you seem to have got this 100% right - thanks again, keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to the day when I have enough experience to be able to pay all the help I've had while lurking forward in turn.

Congrats!

I wanted to tear the desire for nicotine out of me. Was tired of waking and trying to cough up a lung every morning

Had tried eveo from patches gum, even hypnosis not to mention cold turkey.

I started at 18 mg nic and since I DIY my ejuice have weaned myself down to 1 mg.

Hoping to get to zero nic Christmas or early 2016.

My brand of Cigarettes was the 120 mm Saratoga.

What did it for me was two things.

We bought a riverside flat in the Scottish Borders for our retirement and I spent 10 hard weeks working on it. As usual when working flat out on a project I inhaled industrial quantities of the strongest pipe tobacco I could find ( Condor ) and again as usual knew I had to ca' back when I found myself waking up at 4.00am, wheezing and throwing open the bedroom window as there wasn't enough air in the world - ironically a good blast of my pipe would have fixed this. Totally stupid and self destructive I know...only too too well.

In the interim my son-in-law and my daughter who have both taken to Vaping due to smoking restrictions in their workplaces, got me an e-pipe. In Scotland it is a Capital Crime to junk that which you have been given as a gift...so eventually I gave it a go - and everything took off from there.

If I can do it anyone can!

I found this out the hard way, as I suspect many others on here did too. Three years ago in Spain I decided to try Vaping and got one of those cig-a-like kits - no real satisfaction from them and I got fed up of the amount of "dead men" amongst the refills. Then bought one of the blister pack ego Vaping Pens when there was a Vape Shop on every corner in Spain - worked better but after a few days they all leaked constantly, so I went back to tobacco.

This time round my son-in-law gave me a Kamry K1000 e-pipe and while it worked well everything I read about it lead me to believe it would have reliability issues, so I went down to the local Vape shop in Scotland and forked out about £80.00 for an E TECC wooden e-pipe - which died three weeks later when I got to Spain for the winter.

As by that time I was committed to Vaping in my own mind I started doing serious research and ended up with the set ups I have know.

I wish I had discovered this forum earlier and that when I started off I had known all I know now - if I had I'd certainly have been off tobacco for much longer. Still better late than never, and I am actually enjoying the Vaping experience greatly.

Congratulations on the switch!

I smoked for over 20 years at over 2 packs a day. I loved smoking. I didn't even want to quit... ever! I noticed a friend vaping away and thought I'd buy a kit just to see what it was about. I didn't even dream I'd enjoy it enough to quit my beloved cigarettes. I quit the day my kit arrived. And here I am 4 years later and still vaping away. I've advanced my gear quite a few times and each time things get better.

I think the key to success in vaping is the gear/tank and most importantly the juice. If you find a delicious juice that you absolutely love you don't even want to smoke!

Welcome to our forum and happy vaping!!
