Greetings

I ran across ECF and found the information that I gleened rather interesting and informative.

So I registered in hopes to participate and get some help moving away from analogs.

I went to Walgreens and bought a Blu as a first step to first find out what it would be like. Knowing it probably won't be what I continue with but wanted a reference point.

I found it to have an unusual menthol flavor. Didn't seem like the menthol I've become accustom to with analogs. Not sure if that is what to expect of other e-cigs, I hope not.

As for the amount of nicotine, I don't know what level it was but found it to be a little short of satisfying. Wish I knew what level it was so that I had a starting point.

I also found that it "tickled" my throat causing me to cough. Either because I am not used to it or it's "you get what you pay for". I certainly hope it isn't what I would find in other e-cigs.

So saying hello and stake in the ground to begin my quest for a good replacement to the analogs.

Hi Polar Bear! I would say that the Walgreens e-cig is not a true representation of what we all end up using. It's a good one to try,for cheap to see the possibilities, before you commit. As for flavor, that is an endless discussion! I have a favorite tobacco vape, but also love fruit and dessert vapes. You have a great adventure ahead of you!

I was hoping that the Blu was just a starting point.

I am not opposed to fruity flavors, I love strawberries :)

Not sure if this right but the flavor doesn't have to be exact match to an analog, I am looking for a nicotine replacement as well that I can control and lower over time to kick the analog habit.

Hi and Welcome! I've found that the PV (or Personal Vaporizer/ECig) has a lot to due with the success rate of quitting analogs. It has taken me a few weeks to find the gear and juice that work best for me but everyone's tastes are different. I swore that I'd never quit but was able to put down the analogs within a few days of getting a decent starter kit.

Glad that you found the ECF and that you're going to try! For me, I can't imagine going back to smoking - vaping is so much more fun.

I would say that an ego or epower type ecig would make this easier for you! That's good, that you don't feel like the flavor has to match. With the nic juice there are a million flavors and all levels of nicotine. For someone just starting out, probably want to go with a high level, like 24 to 30 mg. That will help with the cravings.

A little lost on the term PV, was the Blu a PV ? or are you saying that it wasn't and that moving to a PV would be helpful ?

I have heard of 24 mg, haven't seen 30 or anything higher than 24 but then again I am new to my quest

I suppose to start out though I don't know that I want to get into the whole mixing my own right off. It sounds daunting but down the road I can see myself doing that.

I am wondering if I should start out trying to find the right delivery system or if I should find the right hmmmm "mix" first ?

What concerns me most is the cost. The idea of having to buy several starter kits to find what I like best.

Welcome to ECF Polar Bear. Most newbies start out with PVs(personal vaporizers/ecigs like your and either are turned off or start looking for something better. You fall into the latter category and good for you. Most of us point newbies to the ego or Riva PV as a good starter PV because it is inexpensive and is a great PV. Even people with big expensive mods usually have a few egos around as backups. You'll want to get some good atomizers for dripping and or cartomizers that you fill yourself that will last several hours before having to be refilled. Also, you'll want to get lots of small sample size bottles of juice to try and drink lots of water because vaping dehydrates you and can cause some unpleasant but harmless side effects like headaches or cramps. Hope this helps some.

Hey Polar Bear, and welcome.

I'm new to the PV(personal vaporizer just to answer your question) too. I was pretty hesitant at first about the entire thing but it was truly worth it when I pulled the trigger. I was lucky enough to have a shop near me so I was able to try a few things out.

I found that the ego(JoyE EGO type of PV) with a LR306(low resistance atomizer) was a perfect fit for me. It has good battery life, non threatening size, great vapor production, beautiful lines and a great track record here on the forum for newbs and pros a like. The LR306 is like an aftermarket type atomizer for PV's. It helps with taste, vapor production, and gives a better TH(throat hit). Its also great when you go tasting for new flavors. Just drip it right on top, vape and taste.

So blah blah blah I love the ego. . .The main reason I picked it was because of the vapor production and throat hit. If you want the ability to blow tons of smoke, and have a nice realistic TH. I definitely recommend this same set up. If you feel like the TH is a bit much, just throw the regular atty(atomizer) that the kit comes with back on, and try that.

As for menthol juices, everyone has different taste buds when it comes to juice from what i read. I personally didn't smoke menthol but I grabbed a bottle to try and convince some friends. Pure Menthol 11mg nicotine 10ml bottle from Vapure.com is pretty much a Newport. That's what I grabbed today as ammo for my little conversion mission this weekend ;).

Oh yeah you also mentioned that you smoked for 35yrs so would not recommend the regular 510's for you. Yes they look like a analog(regular cigarette), but I don't think that would be a good enough battery for someone that has smoke for that amount of time. I mean 35yrs is an addiction not a social thing( I was in the same boat, just not as long). So running out of battery could totally mess everything up(might end up buying a pack).

Hope I was able to answer some questions, and kind of lead you in to the right path.

http://www.liberty-flights.com/ is having a 20% sale on everything if you wanna check out the ego or ego-t for a good price. Vapure.com is where you can get that menthol juice I was talking about if you wanna check that out too.

Good luck Polar Bear, and welcome again to ecf.

BassMonkey is giving some good advice there. I would check out the Deals and Steals thread for all the current sales. The ego/riva/epower set up is going to be something you will probably always use, even if you get more mods down the line. mypvshop.com has low cost kits too. Randall is the owner and he is a really good guy- runs 2 contest threads, gives away 4 kits a week! Now that you can post anywhere, you can enter those!

Hold your mouse over the abbreviations with a line under them, helps a little :) PV is a term used for all the e-cigs. And welcome to ECF. You can get stronger nicotine, or weaker, depending on your preferences, or even dilute the stronger ones till you find what is best for you. You can even get creative and make your own flavors, or mix and match what you can buy. The possibilities are endless. There is a world of info right here, all you need do is ask, and a lot of people will answer, each with their own opinions, and all with very good advice. Hang around long and you'll be a pro (well, maybe semi-pro lol).

Hi im new myself. in fact you and i have a bit in common. First pv (personal vaporizer) i tried was the Blu menthol. Like you i sure did not taste menthol. I think the flavor was closer to vanilla or chocolate and no discernible nicotine feel to it.

FYI as i was researching to buy a decent rig i wondered what the Blu's nic level was, to have a point of reference ya know. I email the company and got back that it is 24mg. Thats sorta scary cause a old fashion cig is 16mg of nic. I certainly did not feel this higher nic level.

As far as a rig goes i dont have one yet. i have spent the week checking out this and that till my eyes are bleeding from looking at the computer. When i say a week i am talking like 16 hrs a day. LOL i am currently laid up with a kidney stone the size of a marble so no work for me (yippy vacation). So as i sti here and look i realize i am never gonna know anything till i drop dime and get a rig. I am so hoping i can get one today. If i cant pick it up at the comapny and have to mail order then it will be a few more days.

Rambling sorry (meds ya know) For my first foray i am gonna try a eGo T system. nothing big but at least it gives me a decent starting point and i can go from there. Wish you the best of luck
