Hello all,

I'm Keyser. Fairly new to vaping. I'm here to learn what I can and to ask the vets some questions about different mods/tanks and forms of vaping.

I have limited vaping experience (Joytech eVic w/kanger aero tank then later picked up a nautilus mini) and am now looking for advice on a TC mod and tank to go along with it.

I was never able to get the eVic/tank combo working well. This as a bit perplexing as the mod/tanks seemed to be quite straight forward yet coil after coil the hits would always very quickly turn gross and would lose some to most of the flavor in a very short period of time. I tried changing the airflow through the tank, adjusting the voltage/wattage and of course replacing the coil. None of this has worked.

As a result I have decided to give vaping another solid go but I want to try a sub Ohm coil/mod that can use VV/VW and TC. I have tried a few other setups and feel as if I would like the airflow of the tank to be greater than that of the nautilus mint. Maximum flavor and consistency are my end goal. The whole "chasing clouds" ballyhoo is not really my bag. I would like to keep the total cost of the mod/tank to right around $100-$120. If I can get your thoughts on this it would be appreciated.

You might look at a Kanger Topbox kit. It's a decent little mod, not too expensive, and comes with a flexible tank, so you can go back to +ohm vaping if you decide subohm is not for you. Another option would be the Evic VTC, which is much the same. FWIW, I think the Kanger kit has a better tank.

Might suggest this as a good kit. These should be appropriate batteries for this kit. I've heard good about this kit from others. Also have a slight bias to SmokTech gear, I use this brand and so far it seems to suit my needs quality wise. Although, I have used some Kanger products and probably soon will again. Been eye-balling the Dripbox kits, only seeing them not being regulated seems negative.

Thanks! I have looked at both of those before and they seemed like good kits. I wanted some opinions of people who actually know the quality and usability of the hardware before I make a purchase.

I really like the way the smok hw looks. I have a friend who has a smok tank on a pioneer mod (think that's the mod) and I tried it a couple of times. The tip on that thing gets SO hot! Is that typical of a sub Ohm tank or was he perhaps vaping with too much V/W? Just curious because if they all get that hot these manufacturers should start coating their drip tips with some type of insulator like a ceramic.

I have tried different kinds (brands and ratios). 70/30 and 50/50 pg/vg for the most part. When you say there are some coil killers are you referring to the brand of liquid or the pg/vg ratio? Thanks.

May have needed to adjust the air flow control on the atomizer itself. With proper airflow around the coil, the vape is not as hot. May also want to consider derlin drip tips, hear they're well insulated.

Derlin, wood, stone, glass, acrylic (anything not metal) will not heat up.

When you say there are some coil killers are you referring to the brand of liquid or the pg/vg ratio?

Some e liquids / flavors / flavorings, dark or colored and especially sweet flavors tend to burn easy, clog wicking material & gunk coils rapidly.

Most of the new and good mods have temp control. I can see advantages in having it, sure.

One point I'd like to make is if you use factory coil heads, make sure you order both standard Kanthal and Nickel.

I note you say cloud chasing is not your thing. Cloud chasing is not my thing and I regret buying more Nickel coils than Kanthal ones as t.b.h. temp control is a bit hit and miss with some brands of factory made atomizer head.
(some don't even work, period...)

Incidentally, I had an original EVIC and never used the Aerotank or the Nautilus (other than once or twice) on it.
f.w.i.w I reckon the Aerotank had some major faults and the mini Nautilus, hmmm.... it was so weak at the even the maximum setting on the EVIC.

If you want to try some awesome airflow on a not-too-powerful set up, I would recommend the latest topfill Kanger tanks. I have one on the latest eVic and the combo is superb at 16-20w.

If the VG content is high you want to ensure the coil/s heat well. You might need to check for hot spots on the coil/s. These can be finessed out by gently increasing space between each wrap, or compressing that space gently. If the coil/s don't heat properly the VG may congeal on them, ergo gunked up coil/s.

Wick, I'm using rayon in a genesis style rta. A lot of other folks suggest stainless steel mesh instead. The rayon is working for me. Think it may have to do with rayon fibers being all congruent, running only in one direction. The way up is the way down and so the juice doesn't clog. Presently using a 60% VG based juice and it is vaping similarly to my usual 50/50 based juice.

I don't usually use dark colored liquids but I will be honest and say that I do really like sweeter ones. :\

Gotcha. Yeah, I don't ever run more vg than pg. I have always either ran 50/50 or a higher pg in my liquid. Also, that nautilus mini uses that bvc so I never messed with the actual coil itself. Thanks for the info.

For anyone interested these are the finalists for mods I am considering:

-Kanger kbox mini platinum
-Smok X Cube mini
-Tesla mini (I know it has built in batteries, which isn't my fav but it looks like a well rounded mod in gen)

After I pick one of these (most likely pick one of these that is) I'll find me a tank (or rda though I'm not sure I want to drip everytime I feel like using my vaporizer ).

Thanks for all the info and by all means feel free to drop some more knowledge on me or suggest other mods/tanks/kits.
