Just introducing myself, I am a perfumer and am interested in making my own juice. From the little bit I’ve seen so far it seems like there is a fair bit of overlap between perfumery and flavoring of vape juice. This looks like an awesome place to learn. No specific questions yet but I’m sure it won’t be long till I’m making myself a nuance with dumb questions lol.

Welcome sounds like you’ll have a great head start with your perfumery background looking forward to seeing what mixes you come up with
Thanks!

My goal is to be able to make my own juice from scratch, rather than using premixed flavoring blends. It’ll be interesting to see how much info I can find online about individual ingredients and molecules, and usage ranges. I can find plenty of recipes that use premade flavors but so far I’m coming up short on finding recipes for making them myself.

Perfumer’s Apprentice does list the ingredients in their flavors with a range (eg. Ethyl Maltol 1% to 5%), so at least there’s that!

Welcome to ECF, knoxproud. I DIY my own eliq and I'm almost entirely in the unflavored ball park. I do leave that park occasionally, and add a mix of 7 Leaves Ultimate (tobaccoish personality flavor) and Blood Orange to my base mix.

there are afaik 2 standard bases. And several more non standard ones.

VG (vegetable glycerine) has calories, mutes flavor ever so slightly, produces a lot of “smoke”, is the primary ingredient in the fluid used in theatrical smoke machines, tends to be somewhat more resistant to developing an allergy (though it can happen) and has sort of the consistency of honey.

PG (propylene glycol) is thinner, produces less vapor, is more likely to cause an allergic reaction, is the only base used in disposables, has a clearer flavor, and has the consistency of light oil.

PeG (polyethylene glycol) is the nontoxic antifreeze, is primarily for people allergic to PG

Ethanol often used at quite high molarity, will get you drunk quite quickly, vapes hot (it’s boiling temperature is below water but still really quite high) is the tiniest base. Even thinner than water. Produce NO visible vapor and will reduce the visible vapor of other bases, making it sometimes used in stealth vapes

Water too hot, boils at a high enough temp to hurt, but as can be added in small amounts to other bases. Produce NO to almost no visible vapor and can reduce the visible vapor of other bases. So much so that a few drops of water added to a juice is an easy way to make stealth juice
