Help bring me up to speed…

I’ve stepped away from vaping social media and news for the past ten years or so. I found an rda I liked and a squonk mod I liked which was eventually discontinued - after I went through about five or six of them (I’m clumsy as hell)… and then another squonker I liked - went through three of those (not my fault, the chip just really sucked).

So what did I miss?

Boro devices seem to have blown up. And disposables have blown up. Squonkers have just died off almost completely. Mesh wicks saw a resurgence it seems.

From what I can see things don’t stay on the shelves for long either. It’s really hard to find things - in general.

There’s like three or four US based vape shops that sell hardware. Where did they all go?

Nothing is in stock!

By the second page of vape devices all I see are bongs and glass pipes. WTH!?

What the heck happened? I step away for a few years because I’m content with my setup and the whole industry goes to hell.

Anyone have any insight?

Side-by-Sides and Boros by the bazilions, plus truckloads of podmods & disposables.

You can still find stuff - just different places from before (in most cases, not all).

Yeah! I’m shocked at all the side by side mods I’ve seen. Back when I was with it, side by sides were very very rare. I wish someone would develop a side by side squonker - that’s what is missing from my life.

Shop wise - VaporDNA is still a constant I see. There’s element vape. Myvpro (new to me). I had to use DuckDuckGo rather than Google to find TwistedTimmysCoils - when I was looking for a particular device.

Any other good shops worth checking out?

I can assure you that squonkers are still extremely popular with those seeking maximum flavor. Good squonk mods are still available, but you will have to search a little. Once you have experienced a good squonker and RDA, it's truly difficult to go back. Sort of like driving a Lamborghini or a Porsche, then being forced to drive a Hyundai or a Kia. With that being said, I still use and enjoy old Kayfuns, Doggy's, and Ego One RTA's because I am lazy, and they flat out work.

As for the the raging popularity of Boro devices and disposable vapes, I wonder about that myself. I am guessing it is convenience, laziness, cluelessness, or likely a combination of those.

I figure that as long as you are not smoking cigarettes, you are doing well. You know the old saying "There's an azz for every seat".

Based on the vendors you mentioned, i'm guessing you're in the USA. You're not limited to domestic web vendors. Many of us here have ordered from the UK, France, China, et al w/o issue. i had 1 small delivery from England stopped & returned by Customs (i was never given the opportunity to pay an import duty, which i would have done). Other than that, i've never had a problem w/ any of several orders from overseas.

As for the the raging popularity of Boro devices and disposable vapes, I wonder about that myself.

Disposables are popular because of the convenience you mentioned. Folks buy & dispose of cigarettes w/o having to think much about it; same for disposables. As smoking gets more & more expensive & inconvenient, the popularity of disposables for recent former or current smokers is understandable. They're essentially the old-school carto cigalikes that started it all but in a different form. A lot of people would rather not smoke but would rather smoke than deal w/ recharging a battery, let alone swapping coils, etc.

Boro-style devices are just pod kits in a different shape, maybe w/ additional options down the road if someone wants. So my guess is that manufacturers are going after the same people as they did w/ pod mods... those stepping up from simpler pod devices + those who use more advanced gear who want something easy to carry but not too limiting when out & about.
