Machine screw coil wrap for Vivi Nova / Kanger T3 - YouTube

Using a machine screw to get a coil works great. It's my go to method for Kanger style bottom coils (Vivi Novas too which I am not a user of). I have a Genesis style atty in the Vape Mail! My first, an AGA-T2. I'm definitely going to use the drill bit method. Tips from what I have learned: Don't choke the wick with the coil and always check for hot spots. Silica and Kanthal are cheap and it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to rebuild. Don't get too frustrated and learn from every build. You'll dial it in in no time. Nobody builds a better coil and wick for you other than you.

Also I tried building a dual coil setup. Came out to 1.7 ohms. Still waiting on my batteries and a different mech mod then gonna start building lower ohm coils. Currently using the h100 mod and trident rba. If any one had any suggestions on maybe different coil setups and best way to coil (technique for making nice coils) would be much appreciated.

For cotton wicks I use a needle for support and so I can wrap it pretty tight and once I remove the needle it is just right. I get them more consistent this way. And after wrapping and before removing the needle I use a small screwdriver to even out the coil spacing. Just takes some trial and error to find a method that works for you. And some practice.

Thanks for the input. Any one have experience using ekowool and ribbon wire?

I'm currently using a thin allen wrench to stabilize/keep wraps consistent for T3's and Pro Tanks as well. It works decently and I didn't have to purchase anything extra, which leaves more budget for the fun stuff :)

I just purchased bamboo and wanted to know if anyone has experience with this and if I need to treat it first (boil it, etc.)?

I also just got SS mesh in the mail (400). How much of that do I use? To 3mm thickness - same as the silica?

Was wondering how you guys build your coils. I seen people use a drill bit to wrap coils but was wondering if there were any other techniques. Tried doing it free hand but was pretty horrible looking

use a pin or paperclip.

mesh in a dripper: just oxidize real good and freehand.

look through the rba forums as there are many posts talking about wrapping coils and different setups.... many good ideas.

I use a toothpick to get the sizing right when I make cotton ball wicks. It's actually great to position the coil just right.

For silica I use a very thin sewing needle to give me a little support. If I'm doubling over thinner silica, I freehand it. I really don't like threading on silica wicks, so I try not to and end up avoiding things like using a machine threaded screw as a guide.

For winding silica I use a SS wire used for Cheese cutters. It's very small in diameter. It is rigid. It's long so I can put in a vise or more often just put to alligator clips on the wick(s) and do my wrap. Then pull out the wire so the wick and coil are pretty close. I try to use braided silica when ever possible. Less trouble with it fraying before I get it in place. A trick I use is to put a drop of Elmers Glue on the tips until i get it in place and then snip off the end. Don't want to vape glue. SS mesh is a whole different thing. I Get the size as close as possible then oxidize it good with water and VG at the end. Then I put one wrap of Cigarette paper minus the glue part around where the coil goes. It is held in place by a dab of VG. Then wrap my coil. Put the SS wick and coil in the atty. Do a dry burn briefly and then fill the atty. With that little piece of paper you reduce the chance of a short a whole lot. Also cuts break in time. For ceramic I rinse the wick good put a single thread of unbleached Cheese cloth around the area where the coil goes. I do not dry burn this one. I then fill the atty and tip it to soak the whole thing. Then burn it briefly with the top off. to make sure it works and to burn off some of the cotton. With in a few vapes I am at full bore with out a half day of break in.

I have difficulty getting the wick back through the finished coil. I get decent results from hand wrapping. I like the thicker wicks. 3 and 3.5mm. I just get too frustrated and give up. So currently hand wrapping it is.

This is basically what i do. I do have a non metalic dental pick I use for coil manipulation. Works well.

I have used ekowool, cotton, silica, and ssmesh.

Ekowool is pretty neat because it likes to expand after you drop your eliq unlike silica which looks like it shrinks just a bit. Cotton is awesome because its inexpensive and super absorbent, but cannot be dry burned.

Ribbon wire is awesome and seems to soften up TH. Its a pain to use on any dripper that doesn't have holes you can just insert the ends through. If you're on the IGO L then goodluck.

Also I just wrap tight, make sure the ribbon doesn't get twisted and nothings touching. insert, make your coils close to the posts, screw down, double check nothing's touching, check ohms and fire away. If hotspots just tinker and make sure its touching silica.

I was having the same trouble and here is how I overcame the threading issues I had experianced:
Wrap the coil on the screw
cut the wick (3.5mm wick works with the 4/40 screw wrap); I always go a little long
cut a piece of teflon tape and wrap it tightly around one end of the wick
Thread the end of the teflon tape, rolled to a fine point, throught the coil
I sometimes have to grab the coil and slide it over the wick once it's started

I hope this helps someone!!
