I joined this forum because I need some advice. I recently made some purchases at esmokeclub.com. I have been using an 801 penstyle for quite a while and wanted to try something new. I purchased 3 T-Rex 650mAh batteries, 2 cartomizer tanks, some liquid, and, 5 SmokTech 510 DCT refillable replacement flanged cartomizers. Both tanks also came with these same cartomizers. We put drip in both tanks and waited a half hour for the liquid to fully seep into the cartomizers. One of them tasted fine and the other did not have a pleasant taste. We just stuck with using the one that worked well and we were happy with that. We have some friends that were impressed and placed the same order we did. One of their cartomizers tasted bad as well. They went to switch cartomizers and the new one tasted burnt immediately. They tried two more and had the same problem. We decided to replace ours and the new cartomizer that we put on tasted burnt also. They don't just taste a little burnt, they are so bad that we cannot smoke them. We let the liquid sit on the cartomizer after filling for a half hour every time but it didn't matter. We didn't burn them drawing on them because they tasted that way immediately. Are we missing something? The batteries work well. Does anybody have any recommendations for cartomizers that may work better with the T-Rex batteries? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

JUST for the first fill try placing a round toothpick in the center, drip drops into the filler and let sit. Take outside and "thermometer shake" towards the battery end of carto- drip more drops in and thermometer shake. Most issues with new cartos is the carto battery end does not get fully saturated. First fill is VERY important to ensure carto filler doesn't burn and ensure longevity of the carto.

waiting for an hour isnt enough.

You need to make sure you put 30 drops of liquid or so into the carto...more for the XL's

The best method Ive found for quick filling this way is drop ten drops or so in the carto and then put in a bandana and whirl it around a few times. This is called the Taryn spin...centrifugal force forces the liquid into the carto.....fill with ten more drops and repeat this process until the top looks slushy and wont take more liquid.

Then gently blow through the carto and a tank with the drip tip attached, into a napkin and vape away

You are likely not filling the cartos enough causing them to burn....no mater how much liquid you put in they will always taste burnt and should be thrown away.

My personal favorite is the toothpick method. Just put a round wood toothpick in the center until you start to feel some resistance. On a standard size carto I can typically fit ~24 drops of juice before it starts to get flooded. On XL size carto I can typically do ~32ish. For me, the key was counting the drops. If you get over 20 drops in a standard carto or 30 drops on a XL you can pretty much be assured that you've got the batting material sufficiently saturated. As others have said also ensure that the filling looks slushy and shake it down a bit.

In general I've had some bad luck w/ Smoktech cartos. Out of the 5 that I've had 3 were burnt right away, 1 had a really bad taste, and 1 worked ok. I've used about a dozen boges and only had 1 issue with 1 being slightly gurgly which was my error rather than something wrong with the carto. I've 0 issues out of the 12 ikenvapes that I've used.

I've also read about the condom method on filling cartos, but haven't tried it yet. I even had a vendor recommend the condom method. That's where you remove the rubber from the bottom, put some drops in the rubber, then stick the bottom of the carto back in it and let it wick from the bottom for a while. There's also a you tube video on how if my short, vague directions aren't clear enough.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to try this and I passed on the information to my friends as well. I am also confused about compatible parts now. We were looking into other cartomizer and atomizer options but I am lost. This is what they have listed as the compatible parts with our batteries: T-Rex atomizers and cones, batteries also compatible with atomizers from Joye 510, Titan 510/Yeti/Dura, eGO, TW/TECC Tornado, Riva. I'm not quite sure what this means and I noticed that a few of those are cartridges and I really don't want to go back to those. I really like the tank when it works. Any advice on that? Thanks again, you guys are amazing!

I'm not familiar with the T-Rex, but from the picture on the website it looks like an eGo clone. eGo batteries have two different threads: an internal 510 connection, and an external "eGo" connection. I can't tell if the T-Rex has the external connection - but just in case it does (and is a true eGo clone) here are what the threads look like:

As others have said, it looks like you forgot to "prime" your cartomizer. Letting it sit in the tank isn't enough. Personally I don't count the drops. I will drip into it until it won't hold anymore. If the filler material isn't saturated, it will burn the second you fire it, causing the burn't taste.

If you plan to continue using carto tanks, I would suggest buying more cartomizers. I have found that cartomizers are very inconsistant from one to the next. Sometimes I'll have one that will last a good two weeks before going bad, and I have others that only last 1-3 days. Some are crappy right out of the box no matter how much you prime them. I regularly keep anywhere between 10-40 of them on hand. When I have less than 10 I stock up.

Yes it is an eGo class and will accept any eGo or 510 threaded accessories. Post # 11 by The Ocelot is identical to the T-Rex. I bought 2 X T-Rex 1+ yr ago as Christmas presents and although the people that use them are very light vapers they're still using them today. In regards to your tank make sure you buy the single coil 2.0 ohms cartomizers- dual coil give a weak vape and drain the batteries quickly.

Here's a list of the "general" accessories available for your T-Rex:

Different delivery systems:- note bolded Atty, Carto, etc is the abbreviated form:

Atomizer/ Atty- an element on to which 3-4 drops of juice is dripped- usually used for testing new juices because Attys are easy to clean. There are some diehard Atty users because it’s the best vape possible but very time consuming.

Cartridge/ Cart- a container with sponge (filled with juice) that is used with the Atty- juice drips on to Atty from filled cart and is vaporized- older outdated first “tank” system and prone to leaks unless the user is willing to buy extra seals and “fiddle” with them.

Cartomizer/ Carto- metal tube with stuffing and element. Holds anywhere form 1- 4 ml of juice. Carto is fully saturated and must be occasionally refilled when juice runs out. My Cartos last 1-2 weeks. Best Cartomizer I’ve found is the Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil. Boge 2.0 ohm cartos will give a cooler vape. Always use single coil cartos with 3.3- 3.7 PVs for the best vape.

Carto+Tank- a Carto with a hole punched in it. Carto is than placed in a glass, metal or plastic tank which is filled with juice- juice saturates Carto by way of hole in Carto. My Cartos with a tank last, before tight draw occurs: light juices- 80-90 ml. dark juices- 50-60 ml.

Clearomizer (includes the Stardust and the Vivi Nova Tank)- a plastic or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildable clearos come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply $2.00) and easily replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs. My Mini Vivi Nova heads are lasting about 10+ weeks BUT I wash the heads every few days. I've found the Mini Vivi Nova to give the best draw. Some acidic juices will damage the plastic tank- a metal sleeve is available. If buying the Mini Vivi Nova make absolute sure you buy the Vision brand Mini Vivi Nova 2.0 ml.

How long should a carto last assuming it has been properly primed?
It's hard to say. Like I said before I've had cartos last up to 2 weeks, and I've had others that lasted less than a day. I'm satisfied if I can get a week out of one. You'll know your carto is going south when the flavor starts to drop off, and the draw gets stiffer. This is due to the coil gunking up with juice. I've also noticed that if I can get one going for over a week, eventually it will start dripping out of the battery connection.

Keep in mind that my time estimations are for a cartomizer being used exclusively all day, every day. If you are the type that switches out tanks, and vapes different flavors throughout the day, I could see a cartomizer lasting a lot longer. But I vape one flavor 99% of the time, so when I slap a cartomizer on my device, it usually stays there until it fails.

You'll find using a carto tank will lengthen the life of the carto greatly. With a 1.7 Smok Tech single coil X carto in a tank before tight draw begins I get:
80-90 ml light juice
50-60 ml dark juice

Using 70/ 30 PG/ VG juice.
Having said that my cartos were bought a year ago and I believe the cartos aren't as high quality these days.
