So, after a few days of looking through the forums, and trying my hand with a Genesis AGA T2 (finally did get it working), I've come to the conclusion I'm in wayyyy over my head.

My current setup:
Bolt with an extender ring, two RCR123A (3V) stacked
Dual Coil 2.0ohm carto

I really like this setup, it's brought me quite a long way since my V2 days. But I find myself chasing the holy grail of vapor production and simplicity.

What I want is something with low maintenance cost yet a high level of vapor production. I'm not afraid to spend a wad of time dinking around with RBAs, I just don't want to have to carry a bottle of juice with me at all times and whip it out every few minutes.

My budget is right around $400 altogether. What is a good step up from a fixed-voltage mod, but won't leave me confused and stressed, fiending a cig? I've been considering Provari, or a REO Grand, but I don't know half of what's on the market.

You might want to be more focused on juice delivery systems and juice. A ProVari, a Reo, etc, are just power sources. While consistent power can improve your overall vaping experience, convenience and ease of use are determined more by what is screwed onto them.

You make a very good point, but at the same time, I've found it extremely difficult to get a lot of vapor production from the AGA T2 using my 6V mod. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to get something VV, or at least with a lower voltage?

if u want lots of flavor and vapor u gota be a dripper !!!!!!! if u dont want to carry a botte then s....in is ur only option. i myself will be gettin my first dripper with dual coil today. the nimbus. the next this on my list is a reo grand. i dont want to carry a bottle either. i sure wish the nimmbus was a bottom feeder! cause its not ill have to buy another atty to. i just modded my rsst to dual u wick and dual coil. i can drip into it to. the difference is night and day. i really wasnt that impressed with vtf with ss mesh and single coil setup on the rsst.

I like the idea of a Z atty pro, but I'm concerned about the same problem I have with my setup now: fixed voltage at ~6V makes wrapping coils a huge pain in the ....

A Vamo might be my way to go, then. My issue there is the vapor/flavor I may be missing out on if I invested in a Grand.

Which brings me to the Grand. Can anyone with one give some feedback on the learning curve for rebuilding the coil? I've watched some youtube videos and read some DIY posts on the forum, and it seems fairly straightforward, but I had trouble with the AGA at first, and still do sometimes.

I'm indecisive as hell.

Not if you use ekowool or ceramic wick. I use to run 1.2ohm coils on ekowool at 6 volts, it works good. It would destroy cotton wicks fast though.

I use steel mesh, and it seems if I wrap something at like 4 ohms (which should be optimal for single coil), I get little vapor, but if I wrap something around 2, it ends up tasting burnt and horrible.

I'm not sure if I need to get better at wrapping, or if I'm doing something wrong here.

I've tried my hand at an RBA and just couldn't quite seem to get the hang of it, which brought me back to one of my more comfortable and usual set ups: either a Protank or a DCTank (with a single coil carto) on my eVic or Vamo. I also just moved recently, so that put more emphasis on being more hassle free. Now that I'm settled, I'll try my hand at the RBA again.

Speaking of the Vamo...it's a workhorse, built solidly, and powers a good vape.

Can someone direct me to an informational sticky/post that breaks down RBAs and how the coils exactly work? I understand building them, and I can get them to thoroughly heat when pulsing, but like I mention, when I go to vape, it takes up to 20 seconds for the whole thing to glow.

Furthermore, how does one run a 1.2ohm coil at 6V? Everything I've read states that the power output should be around 8 watts. I don't understand how juice can taste good at anything over 12, let alone the 30 watts that would put out. What am I missing here?
