My rebuild kits came today. I watched all the videos first.

When I was trying to get the gasket out, only the little round piece came out, the rest was a mushy mess that appeared to be glued-in, which after much work, turned into the blob in the picture.

This thing looks nothing like the new gasket.

Can I proceed? Did I accidentally remove a piece that was supposed to stay in the 510 connection?

This REO is 3+ years old.

Thank you in advance!

Your mod is taking a vacation the insulation under the 510 connection should not be removed .

Send it to me I will treat you fair on the rebuild

Thanks Rob, I am packing it up now with the rebuild kit. I can't believe how stupid I am - after the center pin came out, it looked like a mess inside, so I thought the other part of the gasket was stuck in there.

Because I can't leave anything alone, I took my other Grand apart and the problem was that the bottom of the gasket separated from the top when I pushed the firing pin out. When I looked inside, it must have been mashed inside the center of the 510 insulator completely plugging it - it had no defined opening. Once I started trying to get it out, it turned into a glob.

Just posting this in case anyone else runs into a similar issue - the top one is the gasket from my fail rebuild (on it's way to Rob, I got to the PO in time - whew!), the bottom is my success rebuild, which is working perfectly.

Weird. That looks like the piece that comes in the kit. Is there another insulation besides the silicone part and white ring?

Yes, it's much larger and very difficult to remove LOL - you can see the bottom of it looking up from inside - its like a donut compared to the gasket.

I think I did this same thing less half way before realizing it's not supposed to come out!

Deliah is taking a vacation as well- leaking like crazy under the delrin cover.

I almost did the same thing, I started to scrape it out with tweezers but fortunately thought to look a little closer first.

It may be little consolation now, but at least yours will be done by the master :)

I got Deliah pre-loved, so she was the guinea pig! the vape is as great as the success build on Penny, but it's leaking, and I can't figure out why. the connection is also wiggly, so I'm sure I screwed up the insulation just enough.

Could it be that the center pin isn't tight enough? That is my only guess (and coming from someone who ruined a perfectly good REO earlier today!)

I knew something wasn't right and I just kept going because I knew that I should be able to see through the 510. Glad you stopped! Knowing that Rob will fix it is the only thing that kept me from crying. My family told me to stop talking about it.

I've taken her apart to clean out the juice and attempt tightening, with no change. can't figure it out, so away she goes!

Well mine has to be wrong then. When I did the rebuild, only those two things that come with the new center pin were in there. After taking those two and the actual center pin out, I can see the bottom of the 510. Only metal down in there. Doesn't leak, and has never shorted, so I'm stumped lol.

If that's all that came out, then it has to still be in there. You can only see it with the firing pin out and looking from inside.

The REO I screwed up today was old and I'm sure juice had degraded both the bottom part of the gasket and the opening of the insulator. The other one I did today wasn't nearly as rough around the opening to the insulator as the first one (it's not quite 2 years old). I might not have noticed it if I didn't know it was supposed to be in there.
