Hello all,
I've been vaping for three weeks now and haven't had a single analog.
The problem is that my throat has gotten progressively rawer over this time.
Today I'm just about ready to pack it in. I've tried to stay hydrated to the point that I'm wearing a path to the office bathroom. Throat lozenges help a little, but not much. I've also read that this is a by product of quitting tobacco, but I've quit before and never suffered like this. My juice is a 70/30 pg/vg mix and 14mg nicotine.
So,like the title says, help me find a solution. If this is going to be the reality of vaping for me, I'm done. Prior to this level of pain, I thought this was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I guess you didn't put 35yrs. or so into smoking and toughen up your throat, lol. You'd think cig smoke would be more drying and toxic to a throat then PG would.

What kind of eliquid are you using?? Some of them can be quite hazardous themselves. Or the manufacturer.

How about unflavored for awhile until your throat heals.

    Are you using cinnamon???

But the OP said this was a progressive thing over a 3 week period. I would change something and removing the PG is the first thing I would try. It could also be a flavoring, but I think for most people it's the PG. gpr1957, can you get some 100% VG juice fairly quickly? If not, you can get USP grade (important that it is USP grade) VG from Shoppers Drug Mart. It's in the skin care or first aid area. I buy it there for making juice. If you have to ask for it and they ask why you want it tell them for mixing essential oils.

Once you have that you can mix it 50/50 with a small amount of your juice and try it. It will thicken up the juice so add a couple of drops of water to a tankful. Shake well and try it. You will be vaping much less PG with much less flavor and nicotine, but at least it will give you a quick indication if it's the right way to go. Best of luck with it!

Make sure your juice delivery device (carto/clearo/etc) is always saturated, you may be inhaling dry hits (it happened to me in the beginning and had horrible sore throat). Also, if you're using a variable voltage device, you may have it set too high for the carto/clearo/etc. Cartos and clearos do wear out so you may need to replace them especially after two weeks of use.

    Hey gpr1957,
    :2c:
Just ran across this post from IBCR Media

This is a fantastic explanation and totally changed my experience.

First 3 weeks I was doing the cig inhale thing and my throat was always raw.
Think we bought all the bottled water our local Walmart had in stock:facepalm:
Not sure if the direct inhale to the lungs is a issue,
but do not give up on "the vape ride" yet:w00t:

I have to put my 2 cents in. I struggled at first with a very annoying "slick", numb like feeling on my tongue. I did increase my water, but to no avail. Then, I switched juices. The juice I had bought w my device since they wont disclose their pg/vg ratio, and I got some 50/50, 24mg. Within 2 days, it subsided. Just to second try, I returned to the previous juice, I liked it!. The issue returned, along with a couple lil mouth blisters on my tongue. So, maybe just try a different juice. Dont give up, great job staying off analogs!

Wow, thanks for all of the replies. Your support is much appreciated.
r77r7r - 40 yrs of smoking, so you would think the throat would be tough as shoe leather lol!
chellemakepeace- I`m floating from drinking so much, but I`ll keep it up if it will help. Don`t know if I can drink this much every day for ever, even though it`s supposed to be healthy e-cigs or not.
jrenae4,xtwosm0kesx,ryedan,knurlednut - mixed some vg with my existing juice (about 50 - 50) and it does seem a little smoother, but with the lower nic level, I`m obviously hitting it more. Picking up some 100% tomorrow. My supplier mentioned the nic level as being a concern for a sore throat. I`ve never heard or read about that before. Anyone one else hear anything about nic level vs. pg - vg mix.
RosaJ - I keep my tank fuller than half all of the time, so hopefully I`m not getting dry hits, though I can see how they would cause a problem
cooterbang, SDS67 - thanks for the encouragement. I did have an analog today and it was just brutal. Can`t believe how bad it tastes. First thing in the morning too which was the one I always loved the best! lol
Hopefully this goes away, because I really want this to work for me. I don`t have any cravings for cigarettes, and really do want to stay off of them. I`ve tried the drug therapy before and quit for a year, but man it was like being brain dead. Completely changed my thought process and personality. No suicidal thoughts, etc., just numb. (I do admit I had some great dreams while taking that stuff! It was liking going to the movies every night haha)
    Thanks again everybody.

I had similar problems when I started vaping. My throat never felt raw, but my mouth was constantly so dry I couldn't handle it and I did go back to analogs. No amount of fluids helped the dry mouth, they just gave my kidneys a good work out and had me running to the restroom more often that I liked. I started on 70/30 as well, and I switched to 50/50 and the dry mouth has nearly completely gone away for me. Although, I am starting to think it may be more vendor to vendor because I have some 70/30 mixes that I can vape all day now without any problem with dry mouth but if I go back to my original juices I get instant dry mouth. However, a 50/50 mix from the vendor whose 70/30 was giving me the dry mouth works perfectly for me.

The one thing that did provide temporary relief, for me, was Oasis throat spray. It is for dry mouth. I used it back when I had my tonsils and wisdom teeth out.. It helped then and it helped with this, so if you are desperate enough most drug stores carry that and it is quite soothing, but it has to be used pretty frequently as well.

Yesterday was my first time vaping. I am doing ok with it just not inhaling. When I did inhale it irritated my throat so much. So just gonna not inhale the vapor. I do the long slow draws. Not getting alot of flavor just a bit on tip of my tongue I think im suffering from vapors tongue. Not really getting my nic fix at 12mg but mayse sense im still smoking the rest of the pack ( 4 left ) and havent kicked habbit yet. I went 12 hrs out without a cig and it didnt really do nothing for me. If it did it was slight using 50/50 @ 12mg

I couldn't help but toss my two cents in here too, I'm going along with everyone else pushing higher-VG liquids, as you could have a PG sensitivity of some sort. Actually seems to be fairly common! I started with 100% PG, no issues, moved to 60/40, was very happy, but, here's what's surprised me, I went back to 80/20 as I got some juices in a trade and it's been murder on my throat, same as you're describing. I also drink plenty, eight+ 16oz glasses in a day, no other symptoms like vaper's tongue or dry mouth, but as soon as I switched back to a high-VG liquid I was perfectly fine.

Bottom line, for others mostly: Even if you don't think you're PG-sensitive, once you change and vape a 'smoother' high-VG liquid, your body might just react poorly to high-PG mixes in the future. If you've got a delivery device that'll handle high-VG liquid (50/50 or more), then I'd say more VG is the way to go without a doubt.
