What the hell you waiting for?! I'm waiting for you to get up here myself.. Need more firepower up here and don't know how long I can hold the fort!

Giddyup buddy..

I'm sitting on about $2000 that I might be able to use as play money. If I can, I'll use it to build another 4p rig. We will see. It only cost me roughly 30 bucks of an increase in my electric bill to run both systems last month.

My latest update: RAM came in today, so far tested out and all is working, but one modules led's seem a tad unresponsive, but then again I don't have my SSD yet to have an OS to boot into and tweak it with the utils.

Here's to waiting! :vapor:

You sound like loft, circa Feb.2013. :D

I keep finding myself looking at the build tips on OC from the link that Loft posted awhile back keep seriously thinking about where to come up with the cash for one. Unless someone has a better discount build than what is listed in that thread.

What are you realistically aiming for? If you just want to increase your PPD to say, 50-60k ppd then do a two slot motherboard with two AMD Opteron 6128's from ebay (they're listed at 35 bucks!) and then the ram, psu (I'd say 600w gold star+), etc. You do *not* need a top of the line hard drive, keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.

Will be the most cost effective to run and you can run standard SMP to get around that ppd.

Why you little... :p

Oh and it looks like LLBean turned his system back on.

Yeah, he did and with more power.. scooped him again though. Think I'm pissing him off yet? ;)

That is pretty much the ball park I was looking at realistically. A monster would be nice but just not in the budget and having a suitable place to set it up for proper cooling would be another issue. I was looking around on the bay last night at several different options and found a set of 6174's (12 core) for 1 bill would that be worth the extra cost for 8 more cores.

On a side note I just discovered that if you are folding with a gpu slot - dont use remote desktop. It will cause the gup slot to fail. Repeatedly. At first I thought I was having some problems with a video card or some such but I now have killed the gpu slot on more than one pc by using remote desktop. Once I quit using rd and reset stuff the slots went back to folding as usual. Im not sure exactly why and Im not sure that it happened every single time I logged in with rd but once I stopped using it - I quit having the gpu problems. It might be worth noting that the affected pc(s) are all running windows 7. My vista pc is my daily driver and hasent been remotely logged into and my xp box doesnt support the gpu for folding so idk if it would affect them the same way or not.
Processor slots are unaffected.

Whoa! I had just removed the slot since it was always perma fail! haha maybe I'll re-enable it and just close rd.

Howdy Siouxsie!

Greets, running the program now. My contribution will be light, even on max my slow CPU is going to take 12 hours to run this: " Stats:
Points:236 ; timeout:4.4 days; deadline:9.5 days;
This project will run on both single and multiprocessor clients.

Technical details
This project (p8082) is set for 473.00 points, a preferred deadline of 8.80 days, and a final deadline 19.00 days. This project uses the GRO-A4 FAH core software and is hosted by Folding@home server 171.67.108.35.
