I've been trying off and on to get close to Midnight Apple. Love the stuff. I have got the 'apple' part down real close, to the point where I'm real happy with it. The mix is good, and I could just leave it at that, but there is something else, deeper, darker, richer, and I cant quite put my finger on it. I have 12 different tobacco flavors, all TFA, and as close as I've gotten so far is the tobacco Americano clone I found on this forum somewhere. I know I'll never get to that Halo taste, but would appreciate all your opinions on how to get a darker richer tobacco taste, towards the black pipe tobacco direction. Thoughts?

I am afraid you won't get the flavor you are looking for from tfa flavors; the only one that "almost" worked from me was "Cubano Type", mixed with a little caramel a very little Acetyl Pyrazine...but I mean if you ALREADY have these 3 flavors. Sorry but you may want to try Hangsen Tobacco flavors (available at ecig express and myfreedomsmokes). Good luck!

Thanks for responding. I'm not looking to clone the MA, just something like it. I like what I got already, but just would prefer it deeper if I can. I may try to flip the percentages around. The 555 dk type seems to have more off what I'm looking for and its the smaller of the two percentages. Right now its at 5% Red Oak and 3% 555 DK with a touch of Black Honey. Like I say I like my 'apple' part of it, and my buddies agree, so I'm working on the tobacco part just because I guess. Diy is a blast and I'm enjoying it immensely, (like I need another hobby). I especially like the heavier wallet, and of course the tobacco free part. Its tough due to the steep times involved and how it changes over time. You think you got it better, then it rewrites itself. I have an ultrasonic on the way to help speed it along.

Make sure to revisit your mixes after they've had some time to steep, 555 (couple weeks) , and the Black Honey (about a month) especially, you'll know when the 555 is good to go, even at relatively low percentages it develops into a rich golden color. Both are not bad at all all by themselves. Many tobacco flavors really need some time to develop. Try some RY4 Double TPA, pretty good stuff. I will agree, Hangsen offers some very nice Tabs.

I'm getting closer, bought a U/S to help speed things along. The waiting is the worst part of it, waiting a month to say ahh .. well .. nope. I can deal with a week.

I switched the 555 and the red oak around, and added cubano, 5,3,2 and now its getting somewhere but not quite the direction I want. I mixed black honey with it before the cubano, but that one seems to take a loooong time, that's the one I think will do it, just waiting on it. I'm pretty sure I'll have to up the percentage on that one, but I'll see how it goes with this first.

I like the dry4 with a touch of vanilla, and the ry4asian smells really good too. I haven't tried it yet, but it reminds me of my Mom's ham glaze. Might be awesome with a little touch of pineapple. TFA's ry1 doesn't do it for me.

I mixed up 1 ml of 11 different tobacco flavors as single flavors to see what I am dealing with, and am trying one every day. I know some will taste bleh by themselves but together with something else might turn out good.

The RY4D (8%) is my go to mix with a little Caramel (2-3%) and Vanilla Swirl (2%), I also add 1 drop of AP per 5ml. I think I mixed Black Honey at 4% and it's pretty good but needed a long time to steep before it was really good (about 4 weeks  ). RY4 Asian wasn't bad, but I prefer the RY4D. I've never tried TFA's plain RY4, but I haven't really heard good things about it. Good luck with your DIY! :toast:

Cheers,
Steve

The ry1 smells like a dentists office to me. It doesn't taste like it though, lol. Kinda rosey. Throw a bunch of AP or peanut butter at it and it might not be so bad. The U/S really works great, spread 4 hrs run time over 3 days and you got good stuff after 5. It seems to taste better with some rest in between.

Things you might consider adding which are typically used in tobaccos. Don't be afraid to try new things since you never know what might work with what.

acetyl pyrazine
vanilla burbon
brown sugar
black walnut
brandy
nutty amaretto
toasted almond
maple
honey
hazelnut
black cherry
peach
blueberry
banana
strawberry
caramel original
cinnamon
graham cracker
orange oil
cognac

Since you aren't looking for fruitiness here stick to strait fruit flavors not juicy, ripe, candy or such when possible.
