Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I am a manager of an apartment complex and I also have/had 2 cats. I say had because one day I heard a cat meow and said to my husband, we have a stray in the house. He said no we don’t but I kept hearing this faint noise and all of a sudden from behind the couch ran this little orange kitty and flung himself against the patio glass trying to get out. Well, long story short, this feral kitten is now tame and has made our home his. I told Leo that we cant keep him and he has to go to the animal rescue, but he has really taken to me and I don’t have the heart to get rid of him now. We took him to the vet and paid nearly $200 for his injections and to make sure he was healthy. He gets on great with my other 2 babies too. Well last night I looked out into the garden and thought I see him eating BUT it wasn’t him, it was yet ANOTHER cat !! Now I know that none of my tenants have cats . I have a feeling it is tiger’s (that’s the new one’s name) mom or dad. Anyhow the cat ran out of the garden but tonight I looked out thinking it was there again, but this time it was a POSSUM !!
What I want to know is how do I get rind of possums and to make sure it doesn’t eat my kitty? Tiger went running out after it as it dived under the fence. Luckilly he came back in one piece. I am so scared as I don’t want anything to happen to any of my cats. We never had possums in England so I have never had to deal with them. If I put a trap out in the garden Im aftraid one of the cats would go in it.
Any ideas gratefully received

Wow...you're story sounds something like mine! I have 2 strays I took in. They pretty much come and go so I keep a bowl of food outside for them too. I often see other strays eating there too.

One night I turned on my porch light where the food bowl was and saw a "cat" eating. When I looked closer, it was a possum! Now I live in town and have never seen one up close like that. My God are they ugly...like a giant rat! He looked right up at me....turned and kept eating.

My concern was my cats because those things have razor sharp teeth and nails. I was terrified one of them would come up while it was there. So I watched, it ate and left.

Then someone told me not to put any more food out for a while...that that was what was attracting the possum. So I did that and haven't seen it since. Maybe that was just luck, but it is definitely gone...must have moved on...lol

I hear they won't stay where there's no food but once they "make camp" they're hard to get rid of. You might try looking online too to see if there's other tips on getting rid of the dang thing.

Good luck....and let us know how it goes!
