Hi All. I am on the verge of buying an e-cig. However, I have no clue what to buy, where to start, etc. There are so many of them out there...now I'm seeing smoking and vapor...eliquid...don't buy filled cartridges, don't spend over 50, don't....what? I'm so confused

I have been smoking for many years. I want to quit. I smoke about a pack a day or more. I smoke Parliament 100's. I assume they would be considered "light".

Anyway, does anyone have a suggestion as to what to buy - filled cartridges, refilled cartridges, a pen, a regular size, etc. etc. The more information I read, the more confused I get as to what would be the best and most importantly safest product.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any advice you can give....I literally am ready to buy one right now!

what you want to buy depends greatly on what you're looking for. Some people want it to look like a cigarette (i didn't care about that) some people want it purely to subdue their nicotine cravings...some people want lots and lots of vapor...some people want a realistic feeling throat hit to make up for the lack of smoke passing into their lungs.

I would say "just go get an eGo..three companies make one" but..its all up to you...i chose my ego because from what i'd seen on youtube it produced a nice amount of vapor and everybody comments on the good throat hits. it took a little bit to figure out how to use it properly and get the effect i want..but..i've only had it for 3 hours!

some are simpler to use than others...but..personally i will say don't go for the gimmics that only take their own cartridges..alot of people say to try the 510 if you're just wanting to see for yourself if e-smoking is for you...but it has a very short battery life.

It really all depends on your prefences.. :) I know i am happy with my choice of the eGo. I got a 510 because it looks really sleek and has the LED on the end that the eGo doesn't. and while the eGo IS bigger than a cigarette buy quite a degree...it's not as big as i thought it would be..and it was the feel of smoking that i was after not so much the feel of the cigarette.

If you haven't already, head over to the ECF library and read the Wonderful World of Vaping threads. They give the low down on the different options and are a good primer on understanding the world of ecigs.

As for my recommendations, it would be between 3 models. The KR-808, the 510, or the eGo/Riva.

The KR-808 and 510 are about the size of traditional (analog) cigarettes. If this is important to you, one of those models would be the way to go. The downside to those models is the constant battery recharging you'll have to do. It's just not physically possible to get a long lasting battery in that form factor with today's technology.

This is where the eGo/Riva comes in. The batteries are about the diameter of a cigar and last upwards of 8 hours per charge. They are much smaller than they seem when you look at pictures on the internet. Both compatible with 510 accessories.

Hi Linda...and everyone!

I was in your shoes about 2 weeks ago. You are most certainly in the right place to figure out what is going to work for you.

My first e-cig was a Blu...which turned out to be HUGE disappointment. I know there are a lot of people who like them, but it just wasn't for me. I didn't feel like it produced enough vapor or that it produced vapor consistently so I returned it.

After doing some more reading, I ended up with a Joye eGo...which I absolutely adore. I get about 8 hours per charge on the batteries, vapor production is wonderful and its consistent. I've already bought a couple of cone attys for it and already have more juice than I know what to do with. The vendors I have dealt with have been nothing short of phenomenal. Here's who I have dealt with:

Original eGo kit: Good Prophets - great, fast service and communication - very willing to help

Cone attys: Cignot (they have a good price on a standard eGo kit from what I've seen and Vicki will answer questions you have in the blink of an eye)

Juice: Freedom Smoke USA - wonderful people to deal with! I should be getting my first order from them next week and I can't wait.

Juice: Vapor Bomb - Fast service, and their juices rock! I'm a big fan of Cinnabomb, Hypnotic Mist, Peach and Cafe Mocha.

As for the quitting smoking...I think e-smoking is a great way to do it. I am a pack a day smoker as well and I am now down to about 5 a day. My goal is to be completely off of analogs by next week...truthfully, analogs now just taste horrible.

Hope I helped!

I spent about 4 hours poking around on the forums here before I decided to run with the eGo. Half that time went into understanding the lingo and mechanics. I am so very happy with my eGo and I do not miss the analogs at all. I can't believe how easy the transition was. I ordered from Cignot with no regrets but everyone seems to have their favorite order house. Make sure you check out the reputation of any company on here before you order.

It's hard to tell you exactly what you should order, but I can tell you my reasoning in my decision if that helps. I ordered the eGo for the long battery life and I thought it looked cool. So far I have pushed a battery 2 days without loss of vapor production. My kit came with 5 cartridges but I started dripping (putting 2 drops of juice on the atomizer for each smoke session) before I even got through those. I use a cartridge with the stuffing and end cap removed, but I also tailpipe (vape straight from the atty). I do keep a full cart in my kit for longer hands-free operation when driving. It's a bit overwhelming at first but there is a lot of great information available. Best of luck in your entry to vaping!

I started out in the beginning of July with a Joye 510 starter kit for $50 from awesomevapor.com. Theyre a great vendor. Great products, personal service.

Anyway, i fell in love with it immediately. I went from smoking 1.5 PAD to <5 cigs a day. Its a great kit and i would recommend it to anyone.

Only problem with the standard 510 is the batteries. They only last 3 hours of heavy use. So i upgraded this week to a Riva for $40 from Eastmall. Same 510 standard, just bigger battery (and a cosmetic cone). The beauty of the Riva is i only have to swap batteries once a day.

For the price, id say get a Riva and skip the indroductory standard 510 kit purchase. :)

I started with a joye 510 also but if I would have known better I would have ordered a KR808D-1 as I found later that cartomizers are so much less hassle. Pre-filled or empty doesn't matter because you can refill the pre-fills after they run out in either model. Aren't you happy you ask? With all the different responses I imagine your just as confused as you were. You can always get on of the $10.00 disposables to try and see which model suits your needs first.

My advice...
1. ego/riva... with 2 extra atties. Make sure at least one is an LR atty.
2. Get a 5 pack of carts, 5 pack of cartomizers and 2 drip tips.
3. Get juice from 2-3 different vendors

Some suggestions... I am sure you'll get a few of these from ecf members...

Good first vapes...

For myself, it was the Volcano Magma (volcanoecigs.com). I smoked for 33 years at an avg 2 pks/day. Charged the 1st Magma batt, slapped a menthol cart on the atty, and haven't smoked an analog since. I've recommended it to others who have had much the same experience.

There are indeed a lot of variations on the e-cig theme and as in all things, your mileage may vary.

Now... I am looking at other PVs, but I've got to say that I love my Magma.

Just my $.02
