It occurred to me that the battle we are waging against the FDA is largely a battle of public opinion. That being the case, the more exposure that e-cigs get the better right?

I came up with the idea to try and get e-cigs tested by the Mythbusters. If you are not familiar with the show, basically it is on the Discovery Channel and it changlenges popular held opinions to see if they are true or not. It seems to me that if they test e-cigs (fairly) and determines that they are what we think they are (a safer version of traditional "analoge" cigarettes) it will go a long way to change the public's perception.

I started a thread on their site asking them to test e-cigs and compare them to analoges. The idea to be to determine whether or not they are actually safer.

I am asking that members of this forum log onto their site and 'plug' my thread, in the hopes that it will make it onto the show.My thread has already gained some interest on its own. The link is" Electronic Cigarettes - Topic Powered by Eve Community

it takes a few minutes to create an account and leave a message in favor of them testing e-cigs. Please take a few minutes and do so. If we can get them to test e-cigs hopefully it will go a long way in increasing awareness and also changing the perception that is out there currently.

Thanks.

Another reason why Mythbusters will never touch it... there's nothing to blow up or destroy.

That's the crux of the matter, methinks. but Adam Savage is on Twitter as @donttrythis - A tweet or two when he gets back from England might help.

And, of course, @grantimahara

Thanks for both ideas! ANy media coverage is worth the effort. I made an account and voted to do this on myth busters and sent showtime a question requesting that is would be a good topic for Penn & Teller Show. IF enough of us email and support these ideas perhaps we can make a difference....actually we MUST make a difference ;)

I also posted this on SheerLuckHolmes' thread with the same topic:

Some Statements/Myths/Claims that I've read here in the forum, feel free to add more...

1. PV's should not be used in airplanes because they might cause the whole plane to EXPLODE!...

2. PV's should not be used when pumping gas because the fumes in the gas might make contact with the "glowing atomizer" which in turn would cause it to BLOW UP!...

Now I know there's several more, but they just seem to escape me at the moment, which in turn might cause my computer to....ahhh nm. LOL

Have a great day!

P&T would be much more likely to take this on, though I doubt it's even big enough an issue (they do seem to be running short of topics lately, however). BS is more about exposing misinformation and spin, which is precisely the battle we're facing. Mythbusters, though I love the show, is an entirely different format. They aren't trying to disprove anything. In fact, their goal is usually to prove myths. And that's the key, they prove/bust "myths" or expressions. E-cigs definitely don't fit their profile. Good luck, anyway.
