So my friend gave me his old ecig for free and I am just getting into them so I am not really sure which one this is. Can anyone give me some information on it? Also, I don't have a charger with it - so is there some other way to charge it besides the default charger or do I need to go buy one?

First, I would ask him if he has his old charger and if you could have it. Judging by the looks, it looks like an Evod type battery and probably came in a kit like
THIS. You will need a dedicated Ecig charger for it. That's the identifying part of the message, now for a bit of "education"
First, Ecigs come in two parts... the battery and the atomizer. Judging by the picture itself, he has matched an Evod battery with a CE4 atomizer. That is what most people start off with. Giving you those two without the charger is pointless though, since you'll have to go out and buy a charger anyways which is probably half the cost of the kit itself. My recommendation is to buy a second "kit" and use that battery as a backup.
Now others have stated that it's not wise to hook up a battery to any charger... that's a yes and a no. As far as I know, all the Evod and Ego batteries have the same type of connector at the end. There has been very few that don't, and those are usually branded type batteries. If there's no markings on it, I'd be fairly safe to assume that it's a standard evod type battery. Those all take the same type charger like the person recommended which has a USB plug on one side, and the charger on the other side. The biggest danger comes into what you plug the USB into. Lithium batteries can be dangerous if misused. Every case of an Ecig "venting" has been from misuse of the battery. Most of the time people plug the USB portion into a high output brick and that will charge the battery too fast and cause it to vent. If you buy a charger, charge it from a PC/Laptop usb port, or if you have an AC to USB converter, check the amperage rating. a 1 amp is considered on the upper part of the "normal" usb power. you can buy higher amperage outputs that were designed to charge tablet PCs or smartphones, but I would probably stay around the .5 amp (500Ma) limit. The higher the amp output, the faster it will charge, and the more the risk of it overheating and venting.
So, my final recommendation is by itself and without a charger, it's useless. I'd buy a starer kit, and use this as a secondary battery.
now, for how to use your ecig.. First you would unscrew the battery fromt he atomizer... clean the contacts in the battery with a Q-tip. Unscrew the purple mouthpiece at the top. you put the E-juice in the top.. being careful not to get juice in the center hole. Screw the top back on, screw the battery to the atomizer. Press the button five times to turn it on (five more to turn it off). To vape, press the button and inhale. Most people using EGO batteries don't inhale straight to the lungs, but inhale into the mouth Then inhale.
hope that helps.
