So I just recently bought a cheap carto tank to try from a local vape store and decided I liked it WAY more than leaky fussy clearo's. Now I would like to find one that works with boge cartos since I have had no problems with them. I also want to start punching my own. So I guess any input on punching my own is welcome also since I've never done it but watched videos and feel I have a good grasp on it. Are the cheap punches fine to use? Anyways I've been trying to decide on a tank because I really don't want to buy the cartos that replace the one in the tank I just got. My local store has only one tank that boges will fit in (Unique tanks) and I like them but I just don't really want to spend $50-$60 on one if there are cheaper alternatives that work just as well. The one's I've looked at so far are the Phiniac which is close to the same price of the Unique tanks and the IBtanked tanks which are cheaper. Are there any others that are good and cheap? It will be used on my mini lavatube and an ego style battery as back up. I mostly vape fruity/sweet flavors if that helps or changes anything also. Thanks in advance for any and all help/advice!

I hear great things about ibtanked tanks from baditude all the time...I've got two coming myself to try, and they are glass, so you don't have to worry about juices reacting negatively with your tank.

I do also love the phiniac tanks, as they are the best of the tanks I've tried to this point, and are absolutely gorgeous in addition to being extremely durable Pyrex glass.

when it comes to punching cartos, the 4 dollar saddle valve from any hardware store works wonders, as well as a dremel tool.

I thought about both of those options for punching but the 5 or 6 dollar circle thing with the screw through it looked like it might be easier/better possibly. I heard the saddle valves wore out kinda quick and I'm just too .... and maybe lazy honestly to dremel them lol. I guess for the price so far the IBtanked tanks are looking like the best bet unless someone else chimes in with a cheaper tank that works great. Thanks for the quick response elmattias.

I like the jonboy lavatanks. They are easy to fill, just take the top piece off and fill your juice in there. You can also get glass tanks from the bedazzle thread and use your lavatank top and bottom piece on it. Here are some pictures of my lavatanks on my provaris

I think that's what I'm going to do. For 1 of those tanks and the mix-n-match boge cartos (5 boxes for $23 shipped) from sure vapes I'll be at about the same price as the Unique or Phiniac tanks. Seems like the best deal to me. Just didn't know if there was anything else out there that I didn't already know about since this is all new to me and I've only done a day or so of research here and there on the subject. Thanks guys and if anybody else knows of other tanks, feel free to add more suggestions.

I have a selection of my tanks pictured in the link in my sig. Take a quick look and throw me some questions if you have any.

I personally see big things coming for IBTanked. OCD has high quality pyrex glass tubes for two diameters of tanks (19mm and 25mm) and two lengths (standard for 35mm cartos and XL for 45mm cartos). Choice of stainless steel or acrylic endcaps. Prices begin @ below $20! OCD is also expanding into providing pyrex glass tubes for the RBA tanks.

The DCT (dual carto tanks) were initially introduced by Smoktech. These tanks also featured a new product that they were promoting, being the dual cartomizers. The name stuck, so that every longer length cartotank made by other manufacturers was labeled as a DCT.

Be aware that single coil XL length (45mm) cartos will fit DCT tanks; in fact many people prefer the single coil cartomizers over the dual coils. Dual coils are notorious for excessive battery drainage.

Single Coil vs Dual Coil Cartomizers: my experience

Three or so months back from the time of this writing, after having used dual coil cartomizers exclusively in my tanks, I had become somewhat dissatisfied with them with an occassional burnt taste with my e-liquids. I was quite certain that the juice delivery to the heating coils was adequate, so I ruled that out as the reason. I wondered if it was a good time to try some single coil cartomizers in my tanks, so I did some personal research into dual coil vs single coil cartomizers on ECF.

What I found were opinions. Many people had switched from duals to singles, arguing that the dual coils didn't produce enough benefits to warrant their extra drain on battery life. There were others that preferred dual coils, of course. There were statements made that dual coils were developed to be able to provide more vapor production for fixed voltage PVs, via twice the number of coils within the cartomizer. However, there were skeptics to that statement who claimed that for a dual coil to really shine, voltages of 4.5v and higher were required. Contradictory theories? I thought so, too.

Long story made short, I decided to give single coils a trial. I switched out all of my dozen or so tanks to single coils...same brand, same ohm resistance, same number of holes. The verdict: I was and am impressed with the single coils. Same vapor production and flavor, no more burnt taste, and the expected increase in battery life. Your results may vary from mine.

K.I.S.S. - keep it simple, stupid. Why use pre-punched cartos?

Since many newer vapors are just getting their first tanks or thinking about it, I'll provide a limited list of vendors below that sell pre-punched cartomizers that are ready to be pre-filled and put into a tank. This listing is in no way meant to be a complete one, but merely provided by me to assist new and old users alike with options to choose a vendor of their liking. They are listed in no particular order, and some details of interest of each vendor's offerings may be included.

I personally recommend beginners buying pre-punched cartos because they can provide them a level of consistancy in the size and placement of holes without needing to learn a new skill of punching their own, and using these removes at least one of the human error factors in the equation in using a carto tank for a beginner.

Once one has some experience with cartotanks, they can then decide to obtain a punch tool and learn to punch their own. Alternatively, they can also learn to slot them with a powered dremmel tool.

I've been using cartotanks pretty much exclusively for several months. I have tried both punching and slotting my own cartos. I've personally found making my own holes to be unsatisfactory for me for a couple of reasons and have returned to buying them with holes made by the manufacturer.

Suggested listing of vendors that sell pre-punched cartomizers for tanks:

Ikenvape https://www.ikenvape.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=1860
Standard size and Mega (XL) Platinum laser-drilled 2 hole for 510 thread. Standard and Mega Fusions laser-drilled 2 hole for 801 thread connectors (will need a 510-to-801 adaptor to use on 510 connector devices).

Smoktek Tank Replacements
Tank replacement laser-drilled cartos in 510 and 808 threading. Single and dual coiled. Choices of hole # and resistances.

IBTanked https://www.ibtanked.com/accessories/cartomizers
Pre-punched cartos for XL tanks in single & dual coil. Un-punched standard size Boge cartos (vendor sells a punch tool). Also sells CE2 pre-punched cartos.

Valley View Vapes
Boge Cartomizers
Standard and XL length Boges, in low and standard resistances. Vendor offers you the option of having your cartomizers pre-punched and tested by him to insure they are within spec for the resistance. Eliminates the chance of getting a DOA carto. Fee to both punch and test is $1 per 5-pack of cartos.

Electronicstix ElectronicStix.Com : J-TANK PUNCHED 510 CARTOS
Choice of single laser-drilled or tool-punched holes in Boge standard or XL lengths. Low and standard resistances.

Discount Vapors Cartomizers - DiscountVapers.com
Only offer laser-drilled cartos in the XL length. Resistances from 1.7 - 5.0 ohm in choice of 1-2 holes.

Sweet Vapes http://www.sweet-vapes.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=21&vmcchk=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=84
Boge 2 laser-drilled holes in standard and XL lengths. Dual and single coil Smoktech with 2 laser-drilled holes in XL length.

TANK ACCESSORY TOOL
I highly recommend all cartotankers to obtain a tank accessory tool. IMHO, the Slap-Yo-Momma tank tool from Big Daddy Vapor is the best designed one. Watch the following PBusardo video review to learn how this tool can protect your tank's o-rings and makes filling your tank with juice easier than pie.

You can take a cheap DCT, take the end caps off, and cut the tube down. Ta-da, now you can use boges in them. Just make sure to measure twice, cut once lol. I have done that to the two DCTs I have, since I only use single coil cartos(when I actually use cartos). This was back about a year ago, though. I have a triple v pyrex tank from valleyvapes that is nice for the price, and a pro-v cartomator tank from vaperfexion. It matches the provari pretty well.

What are people's thoughts on the clearomizer tanks from Smokeless Image?

I pretty much like them. I actually have a couple from a few months ago that are still used occasionally. My two X2 passthru batteries topped with those clearomizers are currently loaned out to my ex-wife (still friends) to try vaping. I rarely used them much on my mods anymore, as my cartotanks are much more durable than the clearomizers "appear" to be. I did have issues with a couple of them leaking for no reason at the battery connector. Had some that developed a crack in the tubing and would leak. Even had one that melted literally within minutes of using a strawberry-lemonade flavor that sent me on a quest for pyrex...

I'm actually looking forward to trying their new version that is yet to get in stock - the X2-T3. Bottom coil, bottom fill.
