Help me to help my brother quit please

My brother is a smoker and he knows he needs to quit (or at least cut way down). I got him a little set-up and he used it very briefly. Now he's down visiting for a few weeks and I talked him into trying it again but he says it makes him cough.

I guess it does make him cough, but he coughs anyway. And he wheezes just sitting. It's pretty bad. I know that some people had that coughing from vaping at first. I didn't- so I don't know how to help him past this. Was that you? What did you do? Change PG/VG? I DIY so I can make him pretty much anything. So far he likes fruity.

Right now he's got a little 650 that he likes the size of. I've got 510 batts to give him since he likes the smaller PVs. The little Vision Nano clearos for them too. That's what I use when out and about but I have no idea how to stop this coughing thing.

All ideas appreciated.

For me I can't vape VG, it makes me cough, others are the oppisite, try one clearo of 100% PG and another of 100% VG and see which one makes him cough and go from there.

Try 100% VG or 100% PG to see if one or the other might be causing the coughing. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Good ideas, thanks! You know he coughs those first few puffs from his cig too, but that he doesn't complain about. lol I'll try both today. Are you getting any vapor from 100% PG BDruid?

Currently it's 24mg. He's a pretty heavy smoker. I was toying with the idea of going higher for him. I should get this coughing business out of the way first.

All you can do is give him the option. Everyone of us can find excuses to smoke. It makes me cough, Its not the same, its to expensive, its to much trouble, There is lot and lots of reasons why anyone cant. The only reason you can is cause you want to.

I know hes your Brother and you love him and want whats best for him. For sure keep trying being there ready to strike at the right moment can be a big help. Maybe a night of drinking and smoking to excess then when he feels like crap the next day vaping might seem like a good option. ;-)

Tell him to use the vapor like a straw, suck the vapor into the mouth and then inhale. If I inhale directly to my lungs it makes me cough like a 4pad smoker! In the sort time I've been using a PV I've seen several people cough because they inhaled direct.

Is it true that we really don't even need to inhale? That just holding the vapor in our mouths and exhaling through the nose is enough to get the nicotine? I thought maybe he could try that but???

If he coughs when he smokes a cigarette then it's not the vapor. You say he wheezes even when he's sitting down... Talk to him and bring it to his attention and tell him to give ecigs a good try for a week or two, but call attention to the fact that the cigarettes are going to continue to exacerbate his condition and that ecigs have a chance to stop it in its tracks.

He should see some improvement in his breathing in two weeks and it may cure him of smoking altogether. It only took me 1 1/2 weeks to throw away the half pack of cigarettes I had left. They made me gag.

I learned then that I could not take a draw on a PV like I did a cigarette...I took slow draws into my mouth and drew down to the bottom of my throat, slowly at first..just enough to get a throat hit.
Now I don 't even draw down into my lungs anymore like I did with a ciggy.

I started with 24mg nic...I am down to 18mg.
When I need a little extra punch I always keep some 24mg handy.
There are some juices that go up to 30mg, but I thought that would be too much for me because I vape a lot.

I did at first, but then vaped like I would smoke a cigar or 'other' stuff, and mahoosive difference. Met one of the newest additions to our work vape cult Saturday, he was doing the same and only righted it when I explained how he should be doing it.

I also got a nasty cough/wheeze off one particular juice; nothing to do with PG/VG or brand or nic, others from the same vendor with the same base were all fine, seems to have been something in the flavouring they used for that particular one. Might be worth trying different cocktails, too.

After numerous talks with acquaintances, several neighbors and 3 siblings- I've never been witness to a successful conversion.
Seems like it has to be Their idea, and Their time and I'm OK with that. It was that way with me also.
My sister that did try it had an awful cough and she did continue to pursue it but in the end said she didn't have the time.

I read here in awe at the easy conversions that happen to some people with their spouses and friends.

I wish you the best, but please keep your chin up if it doesn't happen.

Thanks r77r7r, I will. If it doesn't happen this time, maybe next time. I'm not really going to give up, but I'm not going to nag (much). He's my big bro and I want him healthier and around.
