Help! My Protanks are possessed

Just the last 24 hours or so I am having nonstop problems with my Protanks flooding. I am having this on different tanks, old and new heads. I have tried re-tightening and fiddling with the heads, made sure the tank is good and secure, they are not overfilled... nothing is working for me.

I did use a new head last night that was working well. Then i refilled it today, and it is flooding again.

Any tips? Advice? Exorcism rituals????

I don't always take the tanks apart for cleaning, will doing that maybe get things realigned properly?

I know of two common causes... I'll mention both but I suspect the first one if you've been using them for a while now without issues...


These, and all bottom coil types, work by having a slight vacuum in them so it holds the e-liquid in and only lets a certain amount into the wicks at any time. Think of holding your thumb on top of a straw to keep the liquid in it... if you let a little air in under your thumb... it leaks. So... look for a bad or missing o-ring and also make certain that you've got the proper heads ( there are fakes and clones out there that don't work well ) and they are fully seated into it.

Another cause is how you vape them... ie how you pull on them. If you pull slow and steady, you shouldn't have an issue... but if you use firm quick vapes ... that also pulls more e-liquid in than normal and can cause them to flood and/or leak.

I replaced my Protank bases with Aerotank bases available for 5 dollars or so. I also rebuild my own coil heads. Since I did those things, I never had a flooding or gurgling problem again.

OK you just narrowed down your problem you said on two tanks.

IMO: Problem on more than 1 tank would indicate how your using the device differently now.

1. Longer puffs sucking more juice to wick.

2. Chain vaping let your tank rest a little long before puffing on it again each time.

3. You could add a flavor wick - if no extra wick available grab a piece of Q-tip, cotton ball, make up swab.

I stopped using flavor wicks and started to put extra piece of cotton in the well of the base that help me a lot.

One question are you getting juice at the 510 connection at all like its leaking. I had two bases that cracked and I was sucking harder bringing more juice in with more air that caused flooding. The crack was hardly noticeable right at the base and screw until I seen a little juice getting at the 510 connector. I final got the idea to clean the base with a tissue and let it rest than did it again and to my surprise it was wet. Two bases at the same time freaked me out.

OK I am revisiting this one more time. I have paid more attention and here is what I have- of 4 Protanks, two are flooding the atty and two are working fine. This tells me it is not the way I am vaping since 2 are still good. For the 2 that are flooding I got new bases and it did not help at all. I have taken them apart and inspected the o rings and they appear to be fine. All of these tanks are fairly well seasoned-purchased 10/13 and 11/13. Anything else that it may be? Do they just wear out over time? Maybe over-tightening has stretched the connections?

No one has come across that exorcism ritual yet? I was really hoping for an exorcism ritual.

Hey Tidegirl, take a look at the bottom section(not the base), the section right above the base. It has the bracket that the head goes up against to seal. See if it is still flat or has been pulled up from tightening. If it gets pulled up it will let juice get into the center tube and flood the head. It would not take much to not seal any more.

I really can't think of much more myself... the following would apply BUT they'd apply to all of the Protanks equally as well...

Thin e-liquid will flood or leak quicker/easier than a thicker one would...

Hot weather will also thin a e-liquid more just like it does with oil in a car/truck...


PS... I use my Mini-Protanks most of the time... but none of my Mini's or standard Protanks are having the same issue and I got mine just after they were released ( all are v1's ). I do get a slight leak if I let mine sit for weeks at a time.

We have a winner. I turned on every light in the house and took out my reading glasses, and one of the bases has an ever-so-slight curve. If I didn't have a properly functioning base to compare I wouldn't even be able to see it. I assume the other must be the same, but too subtle for my old eyes to be able to see it. I reinspected everything and the only other thing I see is some buildup where the air stem meets the top base, and I am assuming that this is one piece, it looks like it is. I guess it's time to order more tanks. Of course this happens right after a big sale. Just my luck LOL.
