I'm new to DIY and I'm doing some single flavors to get started. I mixed some 10% TFA Double RY4, 5mg/ml nic (Wizard labs nic) 50/50 VG/PG (Essentials Depot VG and PG) based on some info from this forum and set it aside to "steep" for 1 month (cap on). I shook it regularly but didn't do anything dramatic like heating it and I don't have an ultra-sonic cleaner so it was just steeped normally. After 1 month I tried it out in a dripping setup that I know has good flavor production, but it has almost zero flavor. I had to compare it to my unflavored control to tell it had any flavor. I've made other batches of other flavors and I might not have liked the result but they all had some flavor.

I don't know if I should chalk it up as a failed batch, let it sit longer, try a hot water bath, or what. So I thought I'd post here and get some input.

1 month is plenty for that one.

I'd add some more flavoring, try 5%.

Heat up some water in a measuring cup in the micro, light boil, or just below.
Put your bottle in till water cools down to warmish.
You can repeat a couple times if you want.
Then taste it, don't wait another month.
If you still can't taste it, add another 5%.

I always try my juice after I mix it. Did you try it then? Did it have flavor then? Is it a golden/yellow color? I basically make it at 8% and shake and vape. Now I make 100ml at a time so by the time I'm done with it, it's about a month old. I may be in the minority but I don't notice a big difference from the first day to the last other than color. Good luck!

Cheers,
Steve

I used it at 7% from WL and didn't even steep it. It's nice. Hi t of caramel at the end. Longer it sits, 2 weeks now, and the tobacco flavor is coming out more.

I added my banana nut bread to it for nuttiness and ruined it!! Failed experiment.

I add 1 drop of AP per 5ml for nuttiness, comes out really good imo. AP is pretty strong though. A little adds nuttiness, a lot tastes like burnt corn chips to me.

Cheers,
Steve

If your interested, you can get it here

Thanks for the AP info.

I steeped it with the cap on. I had heard that leaving the cap off isn't a good idea unless you are trying to get rid of flavor. Since this was the first batch and I didn't know what the flavor would be like I steeped the entire month with the cap on.

I tried the juice when I mixed it, at two weeks, and at one month. Each time it had a very light flavor that I hoped would get stronger but it didn't. I've had retail juice that needed steeping to get full married flavors so I didn't balk at the recommendation to steep for a month, but it is disappointing to wait that long for a fail.

Visus, you might be on to something. I thought I shook the little flavoring vial from Wizard Labs before I drew the measured amount, but it has been a month so that detail is foggy. That is a possibility. Hard to say at this point. But thanks for the reminder. I'll definitely shake the flavoring vial well before I add any more to the batch.

Amazing how tastes vary. I tried RY4D at 10%, and after a month of steeping, I tasted nothing but chemical flavor - almost like a Dupont factory !! I later found that the manufacturer recommends starting at 5%. I cut mine to 8%, and still Dupont. I have it now at 6% and steeping for a few days. BTW the color now is light yellow-amber.

Thats exactly what I chats about, if over-mixed it goes bad, un-vapeable bad.. Cowboy is another tricky mixer that is subtle then wham, over-mixed..

5% is usually for my long steepers; I noticed after 3 months it becomes OMG level. you literally can taste every note in there, even the TA which is not noticeable str8 off.. Its been so long since I have had a 3 monther someone speed up time for me on day 3 now lol..

8% for 3 week steepers. Your taste buds more sensitive then many..
